Posted: 10/10/2004 12:31:43 AM | silken, Bowling for Columbine pretty much makes Canada look like a paradise compared to the US. Well, to my peace-loving self, anyway. The whole movie is about the pervasiveness of fear in the minds of the people of the US and how that correlates to our high gun murder count. Detroit is one of the most crime-ridden cities in the US, but right across the lake in Canada (don't remember the name of the town), people don't lock their doors (the director tests this with several houses) and the news is less about violence and crime and more about whatever's happening around town. Compared to our over 11k gun deaths in a given year, Cananda has a little over 100. And the movie points out that it's not that Cananda doesn't have guns. It's just that Canadians don't seem to be scared of everything that moves.
That's not to say that there isn't violence in Canada. Just that there's much less of it. | |

Actually in my region of Ontario t&ey said in t&e newspaper t&is mornin t&at t&e &omicide count for t&is region so far t&is year is 7 (seven.) I dont know &ow many were from guns but I know t&e most recent one was from a single punc& to t&e &ead and was an accidental &omicide.
Canada is unfortunately gettin more violent but so far we are still not doing as badly as we could be....
As for t&e city across t&e river from Detroit... its called Windsor. Even &ere, I live about a &alf &our from Buffalo, New York and I find t&at city very frig*tening. T&ey seem to &ave &omicides nig&tly almost....

I don't know, but I think that the chances of finding someone to date over the internet, atleast for me, are pretty bad. Mind you, i am a pessimist. | |

I don't pretend to speak for anyone but myself, but I'm here because I prefer the company of interesting women, and having moved from NJ to WA I left all the ones I had as good friends behind. I work long hours, and thus don't have the opportunity to go out much and meet people, nor are my hobbies, which are rather geeky, sufficient ways of bringing me into contact with personable women in my area. So that leaves me with posting messages on sites like this or approaching random strangers on the street. Which would you do?  | |
