If it' it's truly about respect and consideration, then I guess the vehicle manufacturers have no respect or consideration for us. If they weren't such profit-sucking ghouls, then maybe these insane replacement stereos which are causing all the problems wouldn't exist.

Ummmmm.... I have to disagree.... the ghouls you mention do not force people to keep the systems they chose to purchase at inconsiderate sound levels when around others. There is absolutely nothing wrong with crankin' up the tunes... but like I said in an earlier post, there is a time and a place for everything. IMO it does boil down to respect and consideration for others.

With your logic, we could also blame all high speed accidents on the vehicle manufacturers.... as if it is their fault some fool decides to take modify their vehicle and use it as a speeding pile of metal hurtling down the road completely oblivious to those around them.

Funny stuff here, you guys are hilarious.
I don't mind loud music, I like to turn it up too. The amped up woofer tubes most of you are refering to are well, just plain silly. They don't really bother me I just think its really freakin funny when I see someone thumping a set while driving. I doubt most of these kids who have them bother to stand outside their car and take a look at just how stupid they look while the sheet metal on the car is making more noise than the stereo is. I like watching their mirrors vibrate so bad I know they have no idea whats behind them or probably even care. Unfortunatly for them it occasionally is a cop or two who is glad to pull them over and give them a ticket for disturbing the peace. Sometimes its the paramedics on their way to save a life, but they won't hear it. Yes thats right ladies and gents, it is against the law in many areas, so if it really pisses you off that bad follow them around and get the law on your cell phone and turn em in.
In the mean time I will be glad I can still hear okay and enjoy the clarity of my nice loud stereo in my car, minus the woofer tubes and the vibrating sheet metal.

everyone in this world r lazy n always want the ez way out.

You mean like you?

i'm just sick n tired of everyone complaining about everything life has to offer.

That's so awful that people want to complain about the fact some people take advantage of life offering the ability to be obnoxious and annoy others. Yeah, that's right, it's an awful thing when people hate that. I totally understand.

if u don't like it roll ur window up... n turn ur music up a bit a red light doesn't take more then 2-4 minutes.

And what do you propose someone does when you hear it with closed windows and your music is already turned up? What if their sound is potentially damaging to someone else? Should they just ignore it then too?

I've gotten headaches being hundreds of feet away from those morons with the shitty bass booming. I can't exactly roll my windows up while walking can I? Maybe I should invest in some ear plugs and be artificially deaf because people like you don't seem to understand courtesy.

It seems to me, OP, that when these people spend thousands of dollars on a sound system where a 20watt stereo would be sufficient, the intended purpose is to be inconsiderate and disrespectful from the start. There seems to be a rising culture of the "have-nots" intentionally doing things which are bothersome and annoying to the "haves". Their motivation more than likely stems from a feeling of societal impotence, resentment, and not having the testicular fortitude to do anything effective about it, IMO. My guess is their goal in life is to be thought of as a$$holes, and if it's any comfort to them, they generally succeed.

"Little Wing - exactly WHAT part of the phrase 'consideration for others' do you NOT comprehend? You like your music loud? Fine - that doesn't mean everyone else in a 300 yard radius has to like it, too. What complete elitist garbage to spew, telling people if they don't like it they need to freakin' roll up their windows. Who the hell are YOU to call people "lazy" because they don't feel they should HAVE to 'roll up their windows for 2-4 minutes at a light?' It's about RESPECT and CONSIDERATION for the other people who ALSO live on this earth. Yes, believe it or not, it's NOT just about you.

How utterly ignorant - but oh so typical - of the "me me me" generation."

JerseyGirl2008
what about smokers? what consideration do they have when they light up where ever they please?
what about drunk drivers killing random ppl?
STREET RACING ?

a loud boom box clearly isn't a high death risk topic... its just an annoying distraction there are a lot of other topics to b brought up...

what about your youth ... i'm sure you ppl got away with murder... as much as the youth today ... unless u live in texas ..... then i have no idea... nor will i care in the future.

i had a loud system ... i only cranked it @ night rolling past bars.

I'm also going to point out that this thread is full of generalizations, and will point out that not everyone with a big stereo is an ignorant a$shole.

But I'll admit that I'm guilty of sometimes, according to this thread, being ignorant. Maybe it's for a lack of caring, maybe it's because my deck is getting old, and it's a pain in the ass to turn down sometimes, or maybe I don't feel it's that loud anyway. But I can admit to being an ignorant a$shole on much more important topics at times, so it doesn't bother me too much

I was just complaining about that today while I was shopping. Some dude was driving through a parking lot with his stereo like that.
I find it very offensive and obnoxious and also a bit immature. If you want loud crap like that, do it at home. But NOT if you live within two miles of any one else!
It's just plain RUDE. It's one of my pet peeves.

People do get fined for "noise pollution."

Actually it's been proven that teenagers and adults don't perceive sound identically. Higher pitched sounds are more disturbing to younger individuals and bass helps to drown those frequencies out.

I love having a nice sound system in my car. It's great to ride in a car that encases you in a cocoon of pure audio bliss. I have to admit that I have radically adjusted my 'system' as I've gotten older. I've added higher quality mid and high rang drivers (speakers) and reduced the amount of bass in my car.

Sure a lot of people do it for attention, to be rude, or because they are inconsiderate of others, but from a scientific standpoint heavy bass is more pleasing to a younger audience.

Wow, i just went back and read some of the comments others posted...

I think it's kind of sad that no one actually bothered to see if there was a good reason for young people to listen to extremely loud bass...

Also think about this for a moment, when I pull next to an old/older couple with their windows down I will usually turn my stereo down. Honestly they could just as easily roll their windows up and drown out the outside environment. I constantly have to roll my windows up when I pull up next to a smoker in a long line of traffic, it's annoying but I also realize that we live in a 'free' country and the other individual has a right to smoke even if I am allergic to cigarette smoke.

When I travel through a residential area I turn my radio down, it's common courtesy. When I travel through a commercial/industrial area I don't feel that I should have to turn my radio down. Most major commercial/industrial settings have such a large amount of sound pollution that I need my 'load' radio turned up to drown out the other sounds.

I think that this is a case of the pot calling the kettle black. Yes blasting music on public streets is inconsiderate, but refusing to simply roll your window up to solve the problem and insisting that the other individual do something to change the situation is also inconsiderate.

I agree.... but that's not the kind of music I was referring to. What I'm talking about is the high decibel level that causes the entire car to vibrate. That cannot be blocked by a window being rolled up.

I do want to thank you and the other posters that have mentioned that they are considerate enough to turn down their systems.... it is greatly appreciated.

Huh??? What does this mean? I've seen people from all economic levels riding around blasting their music. I've experienced this type of behavior in the city, suburbs, and rural areas. The only constant is that generally they are within a certain age range. When people from all economic levels, races, educational levels, walks of life go around annoying people with loud cell phone conversations does this annoyance have anything to do with "haves" and "have-nots?" And I can think of quite a few things that the "haves" have "intentionally" done to the "have-nots which is more than "bothersome and annoying. " At this point in time $4.oo/gal. for gas comes to mind.

Lol to the above poster.

I am twenty-four, work for two fortune five hundred companies, have a business on the side, and I'm in college.

I'm also well-mannered, say Ser and Mam, and generally considered a level headed, mature individual.

I like good music, end of story.

I will agree that music decibels that threaten to break glass are annoying and moronic in general. Also sound systems that generate huge levels of bass and have horrible mid and high range drivers are annoying.

From a technical standpoint I would like to point out that people who upgrade to sub-woofers but neglect to bring the rest of their audio equipment up to par usually turn up the bass to mask the low quality sound the rest of their components produce.

Well,John,
What I notice is these ignorant people don't blare this annoying crap at home in their own driveway. They feel obliged to shove it down everybody else's throat but they won't dare take it back to where they live. If they like that garbage so much, and it's so great, and they need it so loud, why don't they put on a set of headphones, put on a full- shell motorcycle helmet, crank it up and PLUG IT IN?

Simple answer. They're only doing it to bother other people.

I'll do my best to answer OP since I'm one of those guys that would drive you crazy. I love music, there is something really exciting about hearing the BOOM BOOM BOOM of the subs kicking in and rocken down the road. BOOM BOOM BA BOOM BOOM BA BA BOOM BOOM BOOM Ok, sorry got carried away there for a moment, I love my sub woofers. BOOM. It's exciting hearing your favorite band and watching all the colors on the EQ bouncing up and down as that low deep end bass crunch is finally pushed up high enough for those subs to really kick and make that low EQ finally register with a flash.

There is loud, just plain loud but that can sound bad. Then there is quality sound and with the right speakers and the right setup, actually it's not as loud as you might think for that sound to really travel. The drivers like me are really not going deaf because it's not the high range levels that make it BOOM.

I do try and turn it down some though if I'm at a really long light though, I realize that when windows go up, it's not exactly a joyful sound to those around me and I do understand that. Again, I try to be considerate of other drivers, it's just that sometimes in the summer I'll admit it does draw attention and it's SO fun to just rock out and make it all BOOM BOOM.

OP If I ever pull up next to you, I promise I will turn it down so I don't drive ya nuts.

Rivereye that's a maturity thing, I'm sure that we all did things when we younger that someone considered ignorant , inconsiderate, or just plain stupid.

As far as the headphones go... not such a good idea, that's damn dangerous. Try it a few times and you'll understand how... disorienting??... it can be.

Everyone has something that bugs them, what bug me may not bother you. I don't like the exhaust sound of huge v8 trucks or harley's but I like mustangs, trans-am's, nice four-bangers, and some sports bikes. I can't stand to walk through wal-mart and listen to teeny-boppers talk on their cellphones, or 'gangster's spitting yo's, dog, and G (not to mention pherizal my giazal...). I also hate it when someone has pants that try to hang around their ankles, shirts that you could fit a family in, tight clothing on fat people... etc... etc...

These things aren't life and death, they are personal preferences and every time I choose to leave the comfort of my house I know that I am going to be exposed to these elements. I also understand that some of my manner and habits by be considered irksome to others.

And when I lived in the country I would come home blasting my music. I had neighbors but they never complained because I didn't say anything to them when they worked on their car, swept the dirt road, walked outside in their underwear (only happened once that to my knowledge), or their kids did any number of stupid, annoying, and harmless things in the neighborhood.

Now that I live in the burbs I cut my radio down because I know that when you have this many people living in close quarters you have more social norms to adhere to. I keep my radio down and the guy next door makes sure his kid doesn't practice baseball in the vicinity of my car; thus we all live in (relative) harmony.

FredHH what an incredibly mature and intelligent thing to say.

I have to say that I am truly dumbfounded... how did I not realize this... damn I am a hell of a moron...

Would you say the same of people who invest thousands of dollar in home entertainment system? You do know that the average working American spends an enormous quantity of time in his/her vehicle.

How about people who spend hundreds of dollars on a single article of clothing, or shoes? I go through a pair of shoes in about two months, if I spend $150 per a pair I would need a part time job just pay for shoes. In one year I would spend as much money buying shoes as I did purchasing my entire sound system.

Everyone has things they enjoy, just because you don't share a passion for someone else's interest doesn't mean you should insult them.

I have had people insult me because I own roughly about $15,000 in guns, several hundred in Golf Clubs, A grand into a mountain bike, prefer to live as far away from the city as possible, and am about to buy my second vehicle that gets under 15mpg. I have a dog that cost more than some people around here make in a month, and tip more for good service than most pay for dinner. I also have several thousand dollars in tattoo work.

It's not hard to tell why people do it. Pure, 100%, Jealousy. My friends that make about what I do don't think it's stupid, they don't think I'm a moron. They are generally the same way. We may or may not share similar interests, but we all realize one thing.

When you earn money, it's yours to do with as you wish. Imagine that!

I take it that johncorbeno has put more money into his car stereo system than the car is worth...

The song "Aint nothin wrong with the radio" is your theme song?

there's a huge difference between spending extra money as you see fit and being a moron with a 30 year old rustbucket that has a $3000 stereo.
