Ever had success after a first email was Read Deleted ?
Posted: 7/4/2008 5:30:11 AM
I will read/delete if the email gives me nothing to respond to. "Hi! You're really interesting!" Yeah -- and you can't carry your end of a conversation. If I want to teach people how to express themselves and engage with other people, I go to work. That's my job, though I work with children rather than adults. I don't want to be here on a web site doing work, coaching people on how to strike up conversations.

A follow-up letter that actually ENGAGES me will get a response. "I liked the picture on the elephant. The caption said you were vacationing in Thailand. How did you pick Thailand for a vacation spot?" or "So you went to Mongolia. I went on a mission trip to Mongolia back in 2000 to build a hospital. We were in a mid-sized city about 100 miles west of Ulan Bataar...."

Same as any other email. Engage my interest, I'll respond. Expect me to do all the work and I'll hit "delete".

i believe that people who "read-delete" are married or otherwise involved and hiding their shenanigans from somebody.

Or maybe the email in question was really boring.

well, from experience, most women tend to see if the sender looks like Brad Pitt or whatever celeb she finds hot and if you don't....read/deleted

a second mail to them, gets me on their block list.

It's difficult, i always reply though.. I guess if i was a woman with 5-6 emails a day it could get annoying responding and rejecting that many people a day.

Ahh the life?

First, I have never read/deleted any mail but I have blocked one or two. I have a practice of replying to every message even if it is just saying hi, as long as it is not rudely sent. Funny is that one such message read/deleted my reply...

I normally do not initiate first contact unless absolutely necessary, thus anything I receive that is read/deleted gets deleted from my messages and forgotten. The few that I received read/deleted from previous contact will never get a second chance.
Fair is fair.

Unfortunately, not every woman is as thoughtful and gracious as you apparently are. Sure, the Eternal Drama has always been the interplay between the sexes, and men have always known that women are the gatekeepers, while they are the ones knocking at the door. Men may learn to develop a tougher skin through the experience of dealing with rejection from women, but it still doesn't make getting rejected anything fun.

If I write something simple, and the gal wants to just "read/delete" so be it. But...if I put MORE of myself, and MORE effort, into what I've written (even asking her to please write me back and share her thoughts) and she STILL just reads/deletes, well...that just speaks to how mistaken I was about her in the first place. And, it speaks to her LACK of class.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

I usually don't try again if I get a read/deleted. That happened to me within the past 24 hours. I wrote to a woman whose profile I found interesting. No sex talk or innuendos. I thought we had a lot in common, but my message got read/deleted and she didn't even look at my profile. That seems to be all too common on dating sites. I have a female friend who's on another dating site and she doesn't even have to pay because guys contact her first. Women can afford to be more passive and selective than men when it comes to dating because it's been that way for a long time.

No, because if it was read-deleted, I took that for what it was (not interested) and obviously wouldn't waste my time writing again - which would therefore make one appear desperate/unable to handle rejection. Life is short, no point in wasting time.
