How one cares for self--and THINGS is a good indicator of how they'd care for my self and my things.
A week ago, I was visiting a really fancy mansion. The family dog was young, but had scars on its head and a taped leg. When the owner SCREAMED at the dog...I am left wondering how the injuries were incurred. Don't want nuthin' to do with the fancy mansion--if the dog looked like it survived Charlie Manson.

I know, slightly off-topic, but teeth and dental hygene are deal-breakers for both men & women. If you can't imagine kissing someone, or you can't get your eyes off those missing chompers, then it's a problem. If they are rotten and yellow, that's a BIG problem!
A gorgeous, natural smile is one of the most attractive things in a woman.

| are women willing to look past a mans flawed teeth. Posted: 5/23/2008 7:54:54 PM | | Bad teeth is a dealbreaker. A person should care enough about themselves to get their teeth maintained. I clicked with someone really well until he said he had not been to the dentist in six years.....I just could not get past that one......chatter, chatter! | |

| are women willing to look past a mans flawed teeth. Posted: 5/23/2008 8:38:33 PM | I just find this quite remarkable! I was just surprised that the usual Shallow accusers didn't jump on this one! I am told that I have nice teeth! I go to the dentist twice a year at my own expense! And there are few things I really hate, other then going to the dentist!
What I don't understand about this thread, is that so many people have bad teeth, that I've seen anyway! Are they just screwed in a romantic way, or do they just pick similar partners.
And then there's England!

| are women willing to look past a mans flawed teeth. Posted: 5/23/2008 9:02:51 PM | One of the first things I look at is not only a man's smile but his teeth...just being honest...men can say they like legs, or butts or breast or whatever...my hot spot is teeth...I have dated people who didnt have perfect teeth but my oh my when I met the right guy with that gleaming smile...I just want to lick his teeth!
But OP you are young and anything wrong with your teeth you should be able to get fixed...do it for the smile that will warm her heart!

| are women willing to look past a mans flawed teeth. Posted: 5/23/2008 9:32:26 PM | | plastic sturgeon, it's not the crocked, off colored teeth that get to me. Nor do dentures. What bothers me are missing teeth, rotting, brown and green teeth. Unfortunately up here it is a decent indictor that the person has been or is still involved in Meth use. Hmmm, I don't think not wanting to be involved with someone with that kind of problem is shallow. | |

| are women willing to look past a mans flawed teeth. Posted: 5/23/2008 10:28:20 PM | | actually the first thing i notice are a man's eyes, not his smile. but truthfully missing teeth is kind of a turnoff for me. if someone can't take care of their teeth then it probably means they don't take care of themselves in general. | |

| are women willing to look past a mans flawed teeth. Posted: 5/23/2008 10:41:58 PM | OP aren't you Canadian ? Don't they have some socialized dental plan?
I must admit, I don't like to look at bad teeth, yellow, stained... they're just a turn off for me and can make someone so unattractive. If theres no socialized dental plan, save your money, it'll be money well spent to fix them

| are women willing to look past a mans flawed teeth. Posted: 5/23/2008 10:46:17 PM | Well mine are just a lil crocked on the bottom. But i have regular cleanings, and waiting to get visiline clear braces. But i guess its a really picky thing. it seems like everyone has perfect teeth these days. Ya I would have a problem kissing a smoker, or a girl with really yellow teeth. But I guess everyone has their lvls of agreement on how bad teeth really are..
Just writing this out as a general question not really concerned about it myself..looking to see people's responses...

| are women willing to look past a mans flawed teeth. Posted: 5/24/2008 1:51:14 AM | Bad teeth means no selfrespect, poverty and kiss my... attitude. Nothing a woman wants to date.
People judge you by your apperance. You judge other people as well. Consciously or unconsciously. Get them fixed before they hurt you.

| are women willing to look past a mans flawed teeth. Posted: 5/24/2008 1:52:56 AM | Teeth are a must. Deal breaker? Heck yes. They need not be perfectly white, or strait. But you must have them and they cant be rotten.
I realize not everyone has a orthodontic insurance plan. And i for one have no desire for braces. But i am not putting my mouth on someone who has rotten teeth.
Getting your teeth cleaned is cheap. Paying for dental care is expensive. But so is beer, cigarettes, car payments, blahblah.
Bad teeth, no date. | |

| are women willing to look past a mans flawed teeth. Posted: 5/24/2008 2:03:32 AM | godliketoaster - "I for one have a large gap in my front teeth, is that considered bad?
I heard its good luck to have a gab.
Only problem I would have is someone had constant bad breath and black teeth.

| are women willing to look past a mans flawed teeth. Posted: 5/24/2008 9:25:43 AM | Sorry, as much as i'd like to try to look past that flaw. I just don't think I could. Call me shallow ? maybe
Edit: My definition of bad teeth is dirty, stained, rotting etc. A little crooked...? I could overlook that.

| are women willing to look past a mans flawed teeth. Posted: 5/24/2008 10:37:22 AM | | I had a gap until I was in my twenties and then my wisdom teeth came in and pushed the other teeth closer....one of my friends had a bigger gap and she had a dentist add to her two front teeth so no one would know..it would occasionally thru the years break off and she would just have it replaced...there are lots of options if your teeth cause you not to smile...get them fixed! | |

| are women willing to look past a mans flawed teeth. Posted: 5/24/2008 11:09:13 AM | Ya know, I read this thread...slept and dreamed that my teeth fell out. Horrible!
My mother was in the dental industry and has a huge thing about teeth. She tried to pass it on to me, however, I have dated men with less than perfect teeth because I fell for them.
Crowding or a bit on the crooked side is no big deal. I don't like gaps and that is something that IMO is easily rectifible. I had maxifilofacial (sp?) surgery --that's where they take a little jackhammer and break your jaw to reset it, nice eh?-- before having braces...and that was just because my bones grew too fast while I was developing. If you've got jacked teeth, um, get them fixed. Not for anyone else but for yourself!

| are women willing to look past a mans flawed teeth. Posted: 5/24/2008 1:43:25 PM | | Well, since my parents personally put my orthodontist's kid through medical school with what they spent getting MY teeth fixed, a guy's smile is the very first thing I notice. Crooked is no big deal, so long as they aren't so crooked that they interfere with proper hygiene. But dirty nasty rotted stubs.....eeewwwww! Toothbruses and toothpaste and floss are cheap! | |

| are women willing to look past a mans flawed teeth. Posted: 5/24/2008 4:27:23 PM | Hey bullie,
If I'd known that a gap between my front teeth would later be considered sexy I would never have spent the money for braces! Before I got the work done I used to drive my teachers nuts by pushing my pen back and forth in the space while concentrating., lol!!!
One of my former relatives through marriage was a very handsome man, until he smiled. The remaining teeth he had were black and/or rotting. He was working for a large corporation through which he had an excellent dental plan, so many people would try to lovingly suggest that he do something about his teeth. When I last saw him at a family party he had beautiful teeth - dentures, of course. Maybe if he had had the work done earlier he wouldn't have had to get dentures. He's only 30 years old!!

| are women willing to look past a mans flawed teeth. Posted: 5/24/2008 4:48:32 PM | Just had a first meeting with someone who did not smile in his picture, and during our email conversation mentioned that he'd lost a tooth but was getting it fixed. Well, guess what? He'd lost MOST of them, they'd obviously been gone a long time, and what few were left were sticking straight out! He didn't ever smile, and I could well understand why - but I couldn't bear to look at him, and the sight of them has haunted me since, they were just horrendous. As nice as he was otherwise, it was a definite dealbreaker.
I don't know how, in this day and age, that you could go that long, I would think in great pain, never getting them fixed. He told me where he'd worked for 30 years and I know he had great benefits at that job, so it wasn't the money.
I will only say that I'm a complete chicken when it comes to the dentist, as I've always had problems and really fear the pain of it all. And - for the poster who mentioned it - my teeth are too sensitive to go for whitening, which I'd love to have, but will just have to stick with regular cleanings. So not everyone is a candidate for whitening.
I've often known people with irregular or crooked teeth, even in my family, and it's not terrible - but nowdays there are so many things that can be done, it's a shame people don't go for it.
Debbie
