| are women willing to look past a mans flawed teeth. Posted: 7/5/2008 6:45:21 PM | Bad teeth are not a turn off to me. Many people can not afford dental insurance and do not have it offered through work. Geeze...bad teeth are not the end of the world at least I'm not shallow. | |

| are women willing to look past a mans flawed teeth. Posted: 7/5/2008 9:29:45 PM | I don't have dental insurance (and haven't had it for many years) and I still manage to take very good care of my teeth. I also make it a priority to get my twice-yearly cleanings to prevent any larger problems. Many dentists will work with you about payment if you do not have insurance. Preferring to meet someone with good dental hygiene isn't being shallow. It's a preference.
Edited to add: There seem to be a lot of threads lately dealing with dental health. I wonder why.

SensualAquarian...regarding the post you quoted, as well as your (#115) reply....
YES...teeth can be fixed. However, if I knew someone for two years who had not made the efforts to fix them...I would not expect it to happen! And while there are a bevy of reasons for bad teeth...THEY CAN ALL BE FIXED. While it may be a shame to lose out on such a special someone...I would never know since I could not find myself attracted to such.
I am not talking gaps, or just less than a perfect, celeb smile! Lord knows...my teeth are FAR from perfect! I have a couple of fillings, a slight receding in the gum, little things that *I* notice. Heck...I am sure mine could even be whiter! I'm talking missing front teeth...horribly rotted or dirty...yellowed...etc.
I also understand the expense of dentistry...however, there are finance plans for such, as well as Dentist and Hygienist schools which do it at a major discount, kind of like how cosmetology schools run discounted salons for their students to practice on.
You know, it may sound vain...but considering a smile is the Universal Language...it's really not. A group of us went to a Denny's restaurant once, and our waitress had such foul teeth that it was actually quite unpleasant to view...and I personally lost my appetite! (Honest!)
I have to agree to a point...I can handle a guy with a couple of crooked teeth and even a missing one here or there...I cannot judge based on that...But yes it is hard for most people to see themselves kissing somebody whose teeth are black or rotting or nasty looking. Although, I once hooked up with a man who managed to get his 2 black front teeth past me for quite a while the first day, not smiling or when he did it wasn't a full toothy grin and he was a handsome guy.....Even kissed him and he was an excellent kisser.......Then at one point he came up behind me to hug me and we were standing in front of a mirror and then he smiled a full smile and I saw them, at first I thought there was something stuck in his teeth, had to look twice and realized that was his teeth....And then wondered how somebody can let them get like that....I mean mine aren't perfect but, not rotting.....

| are PEOPLE willing to look past flawed teeth. Posted: 7/7/2008 3:34:42 PM | | Let's break this down a little further. Smaller gaps, crowding and a couple of back teeth missing are ok as long as good oral hygiene is being practiced. Persistant bad breath, badly stained and /or any rotting teeth are not ok and are an indication of bad hygiene, poor self esteem and possibly illegal drug use. It's not asking too much to be seen with someone who takes care of him/herself and one owes it to the other half to see to it! | |

| are women willing to look past a mans flawed teeth. Posted: 7/7/2008 3:53:12 PM | | Take my word for it - get them fixed and right away. Lousy teeth means lousy hygiene. No one loves going to th4e dentist but you are way too young not to have nice teeth. Don't say you can afford it either - you can pay out for it. Go on line right away and find a dentist in your area you will be happy you did. | |

Posted: 7/11/2008 8:47:54 AM | | Hey...totally agree...if I had no DDS insurance and needed work done...I would get rid of all of my "luxuries" like a phone, high speed internet, cable, and eliminate all purchases that were not an absolute neccessity, in order to pay for dental work. Period.

| are PEOPLE willing to look past flawed teeth. Posted: 7/11/2008 9:02:50 AM | Badly stained and rotten teeth are indeed an indication of very poor health and poor oral hygiene.
That to me, is an instant turn off.
A tooth brush and paste are relatively cheap - invest in them!
A great smile - I love that!

| are women willing to look past a mans flawed teeth. Posted: 7/11/2008 9:25:48 AM | Flawed teeth - if you are meaning the mechanics of the teeth/bone structure, it would depend on how it affected the person's appearance, and their self confidence. If you are talking about oral hygene, that is entirely a different topic, and in this day/age, there is no excuse for people in North America to have dirty teeth and a smelly mouth.
Dating and looks are subjective and to me a nice smile with clean teeth are important. As I am big on personal hygene and it is something that I feel shows self-respect, but that is just me. I would not kiss a man that had plaque buildup on his teeth - to me it would be like licking a garbage can.............eeeewwwwwww. I spend time making myself look nice to greet the world and I dont think I am being shallow for wanting a man who has that in common. None of us are perfect, but we should be doing the best we can, with what we have.

| are women willing to look past a mans flawed teeth. Posted: 7/11/2008 10:20:29 AM | Well, ok. What if I have horrible teeth(still have all of them but they are dying). I tried to cure them. Payed 3,000$ and the work that was done didn't change anything, cause all the fixes fell out half a year after it was done. So now I talked to the dentists and my only choice is to pay 20,000$+to get crowns on all of my teeth(plus may be more cause I have no root channels done yet, so all of those too). But those crowns will only last 5 years maximum. Then I ll need to get new set of crowns in 5 years so 20,000$ more. After that, I ll need a complete set of implants cause teeth will be too small to put another set of crowns on them. So thats like what 70,000$ or something. I am 21 years old, so by the time ill be 31 I ll need to spend over 110,000$ just on my teeth. And its not like the result is guaranteed anyway - since I haven't had a relationship before my teeth started dying(at 18). Besides I can only make so much money, I would have to quit all of my ideas of getting BA degree and perhaps get a loan in the bank for that too.
Also I would have to visit dentist 1-2 times a week for the rest of my life if I do that. Is it all worth the relationship that will probably not even happend due to my inexperience anyway? Or should I focus on improving my life and educating myself instead, even though I ll always be alone im sure(tho I do have a lot of awesome friends that I love, and care for, so not really alone).
Another thing is, I could also delete all of my bad teeth. Eventually they ll fall out anyway, for now I get 1 benefit from having them - I can eat some averagely hard food, and one bad thing because of them - I feel constant pain so I live on painkillers. The question is what do you think is better? Bad teeth or no teeth atall?
Oh and my personal belief is that my own life and succesfullness is more important than ever being in a relationship or not. Although I never had one so I might be wrong. Feel free to prove me wrong.

| are women willing to look past a mans flawed teeth. Posted: 7/11/2008 2:24:37 PM | | Well, before I went through the entire process that you described, costing $110,000...I would have them ALL pulled and invest in a good set of dentures, and get used to wearing them. | |

Posted: 7/11/2008 3:40:14 PM | dont be so down mate, and change that name, failer sounds terrible. the teeth do sound bad, in your shoes I think I might have them pulled sooner and get used to dentures, it would be a lot cheaper over the next 80 years.

| are women willing to look past a mans flawed teeth. Posted: 7/11/2008 10:01:38 PM | | I will not date a man with flawed teeth, rotting teeth and smelly breath is a great turn off, I will not even let him kiss my behind and feet. Mouth is very important to a person,she/he use it for communication, to express his love by kissing, to show others that he/she is happy by smiling, or to impress a guy or girl by smiling. The bottom line is you have a nice car, jewelries nice clothes ,great spender, you are nothing if you have a bad smile and smelly breath... | |

| are women willing to look past a mans flawed teeth. Posted: 7/11/2008 10:14:24 PM | | teleange I am not shallow but I have hygiene standard, I will not kiss a smelly breath and rotten teeth. If I would want to have a date ,I would see to it that my kisser is in good condition. | |

| are women willing to look past a mans flawed teeth. Posted: 7/12/2008 1:14:38 PM | I said it once and I will say it again.. ..teeth are important.......they don't have to be sooo perfect but a nice smile means a lot and and changes a person's appearance......call me shallow also when it comes to that i really dont care........But that is one of the first things I notice........... | |

| are women willing to look past a mans flawed teeth. Posted: 7/14/2008 8:34:48 AM | Thanks for the reply, but I don't belive I ll live past 35 with my health anyway lol. The thing that scares me about dentures is that "With a denture a person typically chews at only 15-23% efficiency compared to a person chewing with their natural teeth". Does it mean it ll take me 5-6 times longer to eat a meal or something I wonder. But anyway I think I am kinda scared of removing all of my teeth in just one day like that. My father actually removed 80% of his teeth in one day when he was 20 so I guess that is a family issue heh. They say it takes months for your bones to actually get used to not having teeth too.
And "failer" was just my nickname for games for quite a while. Back when I made it I didn't know what it translated to anyway.

| are women willing to look past a mans flawed teeth. Posted: 7/14/2008 9:02:15 AM | What if a woman is missing a load of teeth and needs to wear dentures? I do because I lost teeth due to bulimia when I was younger, I brush then 2 to 3 times a day, floss and mouthwash and always have and am deeply saddened to hear all this anti-no teeth brigade, I understand that to see no teeth is shocking at first, but it can be gotten over.... and that rotten/dirty teeth should be avoided.... but my teeth are clean and I see the dentist at least every three months, I just don't have as many as I shud.... I feel like crying... | |

| are women willing to look past a mans flawed teeth. Posted: 7/14/2008 10:12:13 PM | Sheesh...I am not so sure I would be more concerned with meals taking longer to finish, than not having teeth! Eat softer foods...take smaller bites...look at the plus side of it...your digestive system would love you! ;)
Soul-Whisperer...I think the majority of people DO have issues with poor teeth/missing teeth with both genders. I could be friends with someone with such...but I could never be romantic with someone with such. It is just not a pleasant sight to view!!
