| are women willing to look past a mans flawed teeth. Posted: 9/12/2008 11:02:43 AM | I love a beautiful smile, that being said, I am not so shallow as to overlook a man's qualities if he has flaws with his teeth. Flaws being crooked, broken, chipped or otherwise fixable problems. Rotten teeth however are a NO GO for me...that is an indication of a deeper problem, generally indicates poor hygiene habits and/or drug use in some cases.
Flawed teeth are fixable, flawed character is not!!!

My advice to you is to date someone other than an American woman. Women outside of the U.S. have a rational approach to less-than-perfect teeth. Rather than buying into the stupid system of this plastic mentality just be yourself and if they won't accept that, stop trying to bring those types of people to you.
Yeah I can't wait to get back to Russia really, but I have to wait till I am 27 so they don't take me to army in there unfortunately. People there do seem less shallow. But I wouldn't want to blame anyone in here for the rules they make for themselves, its their country afterall.

Remember, you are hoping she is going to be kissing that mouth!!
Get them fixed.
It is very hard to have romantic feelings toward anyone who has a mouth that makes you sick. Think about it.
Get them fixed. | |

| are women willing to look past a mans flawed teeth. Posted: 9/13/2008 9:09:38 AM | Depends on the flaws. Bad hygiene however is a deal breaker for me. I live in red neck central and the visions I have had to get burned off my retinas. Shudder, shudder, honestly this is no laughing matter. I knew this guy, handsome, good muscular build but badddddd teeth. I ran into him a couple years ago, he was in a wheelchair with a leg missing and just waisting away. In my usually sensitive style I asked him "what the **** happened to you?" One of his (teeth) got infected and he put it off until he had a stroke and woke up with one leg. He is now dead. No $hit. On a lighter note: Q. How do you know red necks invented the tooth brush? A. If it were anybody else they would have called it the Teeth brush. | |

| are women willing to look past a mans flawed teeth. Posted: 9/13/2008 11:14:12 AM | Harleykat~: "Oh come on, TakeMe.....no one is expecting "movie star" quality teeth! Just some general hygiene and priorities where shelling out GodOnlyKnowsHowMuch for Guitar Hero, Playstation, and those other toys...comes AFTER paying a DDS for the needed work! And...I think it was said in this thread or one of the other thousands of redundant ones...there are Dental Schools which do cheap work, Discount programs, and even financing!
And I hardly think unruly eyebrows and clothing labels can be compared to oral hygiene and habits and priorities!" What if I and all the other guys on here demanded that you now pay $10,000 if you want to date any of us here? Is that unreasonable? Because this is what you're suggesting in my case. It costs $10,000 to have a white smile (not straight teeth, mind you). That is the cost. And please don't debate me on this because you know nothing of my mouth or how often I brush/floss. My first girlfriend was a dental assistant and I helped her study in college so I'm reasonably versed on such things.
This isn't about brushing/flossing. It's about living in Walnut Creek, one of the most affluent cities in the East Bay in California, one of the wealthiest states per capita in the America. Expectations are high. Just look at post 172. It's clear to me that she wouldn't want to kiss me and I have all my teeth of course.
> "just normal clean teeth. unfortunately alot of my dates have fallen in this category which is a shame because they are all amazing guys"
There you go. She completely dismissed these guys because their teeth weren't as nice as hers.
Why can't you just love a guy for who he is rather than what you wish he could be (if *only*... he would just do things like *you* do things...) ::over-acted stage sigh::
You: * he MUST do this if he's to earn the right to be with me * he MUST do that if he's to earn the right to be with me
Why? Must you have control over your lover like this? I can certainly see if we're talking about "not being a jerk" or "not hitting you" or "not being a compulsive gambler" or anything similar. But you're talking about something personal like whether or not he chooses to go pay $400-$1,000 for an expensive/painful teeth-whitening procedure (minimally).
So then is it valid for men to expect to dictate decisions that would normally be in your own area of personally responsibility?
Men: * you MUST have a boob job if you're to earn the right to be with me * you MUST have a Brazilian bikini wax weekly to earn the right to be with me etc
The man could also claim something about being a great pussy-kisser. I'll alter that same quote before...
"just normal clean genitalia. unfortunately alot of my dates have fallen in this category which is a shame because they are all amazing girls"
See? I only changed two words there. It's a valid statement now. A clean pussy is simply a matter of hygiene. I've just proven using your logic that all women should expect to add "just some general hygiene and priorities" to keeping the hair from your genitalia waxed smooth at all times. I mean, really. It's your stance that it's valid for me to expect you to jump through my hoops if I say so. Don't you want to deserve the right to date me? Hmmm? That's your attitude, anyway.

Are woman out there willing to look past a mans flawed teeth if he has good qualities, personality, and is attractive.... No. Sorry. Too much is available to people now to not have nicer teeth. Even a little work done goes a loooong way.
We know the first thing a girl notice's is a man's smile, and whether she will kiss him depends on his smile... And whether or not my TONGUE is heading in that general direction is a part of it too!
I don't accept the shallow excuse for wanting someone with well kept teeth. Same would go for his physique and his mind.....

| are women willing to look past a mans flawed teeth. Posted: 9/13/2008 3:49:04 PM | I'd hate to hijack this thread....
...but what's everyone's take on a missing front tooth?
The root canal I had done on my front tooth was pretty badly fractured in a little hockey incident the other night, and I'm going to have to get the tooth extracted.
Implants are frikkin expensive, and as a college student I don't really have the $$$ for it, but if it's really such a big deal I'll fork out and do it. It's one of my top teeth... the first one on the left side from the middle.

| are women willing to look past a mans flawed teeth. Posted: 9/13/2008 4:28:07 PM | If you showed a picture of yourself smiling, you'd get a lot more specific advice, but I gather you're a bit self-conscious about your smile.....
this hint is taken from your "I must keep my mouth closed" photo
So then, if you're self-conscious about your smile, why not get them fixed?
No woman expects a perfect smile on a man, though its lovely...but if they look like you've badly neglected them, I'd be wondering what else you've badly neglected...
other bodily hygiene housework car maintenance paying your bills, hence your credit is a mess.... your pets your plants
I'd wonder if you'd badly neglect me someday...lol
get my drift sweety?

| are women willing to look past a mans flawed teeth. Posted: 9/13/2008 5:05:46 PM | I met a wonderful man who has bad teeth. Normally it would have bothered me, but this guy is so charming & smooth, it didn't even matter. I think it bothered him more than it bothered me. Everyone has their own preferences, teeth does not make the man. However, in this case, his heart was more flawed than his teeth. :very mad:
Just my 2 cents worth

| are women willing to look past a mans flawed teeth. Posted: 9/24/2008 3:28:09 PM | Depends on the flaws. If a guy shows up with noticeably poor dental hygiene, I can't help but think "does he expect me to kiss him (or more) with a mouth like that?" There's no reason now for horribly discolored teeth. Other issues like missing teeth may be a short-term problem; he could be in the process of finding a dentist he could afford or the work could be in progress already. One guy I met had a wonderful job with great benefits and the worst teeth! Go figure....
It may sound shallow to some to consider good personal hygiene near the top of the list when dating, but too bad. I don't show up in smelly, wrinkled clothes, unbathed and ungroomed when meeting someone. I expect at least that level of respect from the guy. Don't you think that when you get into your 30's, 40's and beyond, you should have a pretty good idea of how you should look on that first date? You can only make a good first impression once!

| are women willing to look past a mans flawed teeth. Posted: 9/24/2008 4:38:38 PM | Well it depends on how badly they are..
If they have really bad pyorea and oral hygene is not a high priority.. then yes.. but some people have gaps in their teeth.. chips.. and are discolored. My teeth are discolored because my mother took tetracycline when she was pregnant with me..
I have good oral hygene.. but my teeth are not real white..

| are women willing to look past a mans flawed teeth. Posted: 9/24/2008 4:52:09 PM | TakeMe...first of all, anyone has the right/choice to not date someone for any reason. It is called preference. If YOUR preference is a fake set of tits, then so be it. It is your preference and I would not throw a "how dare you" temper tantrum about such!
First of all, I specifically said it was not a matter of just lacking in whiteness...not talking movie star quality. I'm talking missing frontals or missing visibles...rotten...gold capped LOL...breaking...jagged..meth encrusted or battery acid eaten away...
Secondly, control over my lover?? A) He would never reach the status of being my LOVER if he had teeth as described above. B) If his choice in priorities were so different from mine...to where he feels his mouth is not worth the investment, then we would clash anyway.
I have a teensy weensy receding gum (DDS says it is a natural aging process...no worries!) that is really nothing more than cosmetic. Because of such, it is not covered by dental insurance. There is a way of fixing it where they take a donor skin from a part of the vagina, and fix it. I am MORE THAN WILLING to do this, and bear the cost of such, because it bothers ME. No one else notices this...but I do.

Harleykat~: "First of all, I specifically said it was not a matter of just lacking in whiteness...not talking movie star quality. I'm talking missing frontals or missing visibles...rotten...gold capped LOL...breaking...jagged..meth encrusted or battery acid eaten away..."
So you say... And yet I'm guessing if a guy's teeth were stained with coffee, for example, that you'd use the same approach in thinking that he *should* have done something about that, as you would have.
Really, though, having skin from your vagina grafted onto your gums doesn't sound like routine work to me.

| are women willing to look past a mans flawed teeth. Posted: 9/24/2008 5:14:27 PM | And where are all the usual people screaming "SHALLOW"!
Shallowness is focusing on those traits that people cannot change in an exclusionary way. For example, someone's age. It is one thing to have a general range on that matter but what if someone is a bit older or younger than your general range but they bring other things to the table to compensate? In that situation, a focus on the age would be shallow. (Unless they are not legal of course: that is not shallow but just being smart.)
Hygene is something that can be changed; ergo there is nothing shallow about wanting good hygene. Most women would probably not have a problem with a few crooked teeth or even some discoloring due to caffeine or other reasons like that but if your teeth are black, rotting out of your mouth, or you have enough plaque on your tongue to paint a small wall, then those who would dismiss on that basis are not shallow at all. That is well within your control to fix so do it and then you have no reason to concern yourself with it.

| are women willing to look past a mans flawed teeth. Posted: 9/24/2008 6:30:08 PM | | No I can't look past the teeth. They are right there and in your face. When they smile, laugh, kiss u or just talk. I like nice teeth. If they were crooked or yellow I would just keep staring at them. | |

| are women willing to look past a mans flawed teeth. Posted: 9/24/2008 7:02:42 PM | Wow if someone can not take care of their teeth what are the chances I am going anywhere near their genitals.
If flawed means crooked that is fine. I will even forgive hockey teeth if you have false ones, but bad hygiene or maintenance of any body part is unforgivable.
