United Kingdom... What can i say.. United Kingdom supplies jobs for the rest of the European.

That is what UK is for.. Providing jobs for the rest of Europe.

We all know that all top stars are from Russia, Ukraine, Greece..

I'm so excited
and I just can't hide it.
come on
come on
I think I hate the eurovision. Since when have Israel and Azerbijan (however you spell it) been part of europe?
I wanted that fit greek bird to win.. just to see her legs again.. instead some Mongol hoard from the stepps overran the competition.
Such is life.
I think I'll just increase my debt, waiting for the time when the gov't sell the country out to the foreign invaders and it'll be their debt then ( sound of maniacal laughter WoooHA..HA..HA..HA!!!!!!!)

The only real point of watching it is the votes...

Did anyone notice the slightly incoherent Swedish host. The way he was *trying* to announce the points for the countries (in particular Bosnia and Herereregovina...) was too funny!

Did you know the winner's song was produced by Timbaland. IMHO, our entry should have done a little bit better, as should have France (daft punk produced for crying out loud) and Iceland. In fact the best song didn't even qualify for the final! No, not Ireland but Bulgaria! It's definitely not a "song" contest, that's for sure!

Hasn't been a "song" contest for years ....... I thought everyone knew that?

I think even El Tel has got fed up with it now - if he aint doin it next year, then I'm not watching !!!

So there ...

I think everyone is missing the point... the votes are cast by people watching the show! I think the Irish vote is a good example .... Latvia got a great vote and if you think about it. The Latvians living (and working) in Ireland actually bothered to pick up a phone to vote for their country... I doubt very much they were seriously voting for the song!

Had any Brits living overseas bothered to do the same, then the UK song would have done better but there seems to be a lacking of respect for the competition and dare I say a bit of snobbery going on.

After watching the show, which I love to do every year since I can remember.... I think my first memory was the one with the Allisons, 'Are You Sure?'.... I just love it ... got the nibbles sorted and drinks!
but I have to say, as a contest, Andy you were robbed! I can honestly say I thought it was the best song and gets my full 12 votes!

Missed most of the prog cos I was out walking with my 11 yr old niece. We got back to the house and she started taking an interest in the voting process. Much political voting with countries favouring their near neighbours. The winning entry seemed very proud of his washboard tummy.

Eurovision has always been a joke but I recall memories of particular entries from my formative years that made some kind of impression at the time, like Vicki Leandros winning with "Apres Toi" in 1972, and the New Seekers losing out with "Beg, Steal or Borrow", a decent song in the cheesy context of Eurovision.

Jus' checked it out on u tube. As good as I remember with a nice George Harrisonesque slide guitar in the background.

Songs I recall that made me and my siblings larf include "Smaating", and "A ba ni vi a ba ni bev". Anyone remember them?

The only real point of watching it is the votes...

Indeed. Two things are certain; 1) the rest of the world hates us (no wonder we always side with America, we'd have no mates otherwise) and 2) there are certainly a lot of countries who are assured of an uninterrupted gas supply for the next 12 months...

Personally I was rooting for Latvia, that pirate song kicked ass
And what the hell was wrong with Sweden; the land of the blonde goddess, and they fielded a transvestite ffs ?!

When did the voting system change ? it used to be an unbiased panel of voters - back in the day when we won regularly - but since the public vote was introduced, it ceased to be a song contest , but it is still such a funny programme ;o)

Another show of political votes, scarey just how unpopular the uk is really

I think the most disturbing part of the show was the fact that France, as a nation, had voted for a guy, who was obviously stoned, turned up in a beach buggy, in a sliver jacket, to a chorus of bearded ladies, whilst he sucked helium out of a beach ball......to represent their country???!!!!!

Although by the end of the song i was strangely drawn to it so was wondering if maybe we were having some kind of vibes sent through the screens and we are all going to be taken over by this chappy and his bearded cabinet!!!!!

It would be rude not to turn up, we do pay for it after all.

Heh, I thought that one was pretty good actually, the French are quite good at pop.
It was very much in the style of Jarvis Cocker doing the Beach Boys

I agree with el Tel!! It's time for the Brits to stop Airing the Eurovision song contest!!

I was all for it a couple of years back when Finnish Monster-metallers Lordi Won it . but the ones since haven't picked up the baton from there!! :(

But that's not why I want it off the British Screens. Nor is it the reason of Political voting in Favour of Eastern European countries that Wogan and others have noticed recently.

My personal Beef is that in order to Broadcast that Audio-visual Merde-heap, THE BEEB DECIDED NOT TO BROADCAST THAT WEEK'S EPISODE OF DOCTOR WHO!!

Woe betide anyone or anything who gets in the way of my weekly viewing of Tennant & Company's time-travelling Escapades

Looks like the real turkey was the UK entry.
Too bland, I thought.
Perhaps if we had Right Said Fred working with Justin Hawkins we'd have a better chance?

what a damn good idea, i'll vote for that!!
Well a week since the only main event that england will see this summer and I have to admit I wasn't suprised we came last, and of course I wasn't suprised that a eastern european country won it, but who cares, it was fun, it was crazy the green room as always was complelty mad...but it doesn't hurt anyone, it's not meant to be taking seriously, and of course I voted for Iceland, and of course they are all taking the piss out of me on msn cause we came last again...
I think in this country we take the eurovision far to seriously even if most of us joke about it, if we just chilled back with a bottle of wine like a lot of nations do, put on the funny straw hat and embrace it for all it's silliness then we might just improve as a nation....
