| Cell Phones and Line-ups Don't Mix Posted: 5/26/2008 9:16:01 PM | It seems to me most people are a little upset by the choices people with cellphones make and I believe we will see more bans on them. I have one but I rarely use it. I just use it for emergencies, which is never and why I am not really sure where my cell is now.
I like being unavailable at times and out of reach. I think I would find it annoying if I couldn't escape the phone.
I feel the same frustrations as many posters here. I was in Starbucks once and this man was sitting at a table talking so loud that everyone had to listen. To me - it was noise pollution. If he could have spoke in a normal voice, okay.
Driving and holding a cellphone is just stupid. I would support a law banning the use of hand held cells.

| Cell Phones and Line-ups Don't Mix Posted: 5/26/2008 9:48:39 PM | ".No disrespect about it, I have shit to do, and will no be drawn away by ill suited guilt of 'whoevers' swollen sense of self importance....."
Speaking of a "swollen sense of self importance....." Sounds like someone needs to get to a mirror...pronto! (Also, the point about having "shit to do" couldn't be more appropriate! This person is obviously full of it! )
"I leave my work to go help them, then their cell phone rings and they spend 5 -10mins talking on the phone while I have to stand there and wait for them to get off."
When that happens, I suggest that you simply go back to what you were doing or else serve the next person in line. Anybody that socially retarded can wait to be served. You could also have some pamphlets printed up on the importance of common courtesy and good manners, which you could hand out to the offending parties.
"Wow.
Talk about age taking place of intelligence. Ooops, sorry, meant the dead die. Man, really, I could quote ya all ta death, why tho? No cell?, poor lil wannabe, worse, no e-mail, wow, just bad taste these days.
Ya I know, ya'all be good red necks, well warn lil whowhatwheres? Must be rough, livin in that past.. Dinosaur de-crepit men.
Baahhhhh.
Yanno I'm just jokin right?"
Hmmm...The ability to write in complete words and sentences is usually recommended in order to get one's ideas across. You might want to try it sometime. (Must be the ADD brought on by over-use of the cellphone. )

I wanna know what the hell ever happened to all those "important" phone calls, "emergencies", etc,, BEFORE cel phones where around????? Oh,,,,yeah,,,,,we thought ahead,,,plannned ahead,,,,and did what we said we were going to do. Payphones, asking businesses to use their phone, staying home...whatever it took. Cell phones replace the 'other' way of doing things. What did we do before sliced bread?? lol. Do you buy the whole loaf or a sliced loaf? Sure we can slice it ourselves, but why bother when it's already done for you? We live in a world of convenience and technology. We just have to learn to have some consideration and discretion.....
I'll talk on my cell whenever, where ever, I even have a blue tooth, and say quite often no, I not talking to you....No disrespect about it, I have shit to do, and will no be drawn away by ill suited guilt of 'whoevers' swollen sense of self importance..... I only see ONE swollen sense of self importance here.......
Comon people.....Have we ever heard of integrity and time mgmt?? Show a little class, no one wants to be forced to listen to your boring conversation. No ones that busy. Ya really......

| Cell Phones and Line-ups Don't Mix Posted: 5/27/2008 12:22:45 AM | ^^^ sorry miss I disagree with you here walts got it said pretty good, so call me another old fart...lol what else is new
I have no need to multi task driving, cooking, fishing etc and giving meaningless phone ...well maybe if you are an unbelievably hawt babe
I use my cell for business 80% of the time its used and only when I''m out. Most calls last less than a few minutes and with very few exceptions I do not use it to chat or check up on friends if they are still alive doing nothing...lol all my phone lines forward to my cell and my cell forwards to a message center...when I'm in a conversation with someone, business or private I don't answer the phone unless I expect emergency calls. Leave a message and if the bleedin house is on fire call 911!
So yes, I do consider others hours of rambling meaningless bullsh!t while keeping someone waiting on them as rude and the only viable excuse for that rudeness is stupidity, pity there are no pills for that! And those who excuse themselves as acting with the times...lol...try getting a life!

^^^ sorry miss I disagree with you here walts got it said pretty good, so call me another old fart...lol what else is new Yes you old fart, Walt's got it said good. I wasn't disagreeing or condoning cell phone use at want or will, just offering a touch of reality. People misuse and abuse many things......
As we advance in the technological world, the good ol' days for many things is long gone. Take computers for instance......how many of us use email instead of Canada Post, use IM'ing instead of a telephone, use an internet dating site instead of...*insert ways and means here*. lol. Speaking of rude, how many of us have posted our thoughts and feelings about 'unread deleted' mail, or people that don't bother to send a message stating they aren't interested, etc. In my opinion, when someone is 'speaking' to you (in whatever form it is - face-to-face, email, messaging, etc.) you ANSWER them. That is right and polite. But it doesn't happen nor do I expect it to. It is what it is. Not all people think it's rude to read a message and delete it without reply.....
I, in no way, am saying it is OK to stand in a line (or sit on a bus, or...) and chat on your cell phone. All I'm saying is that cell phones are here to stay and you will encounter those that do not think it's rude to use it whenever and wherever they want. Common courtesy, consideration, and respect would be nice.....but........

| Cell Phones and Line-ups Don't Mix Posted: 5/27/2008 7:11:55 AM | /\/\/\/\/\ well said, that is exactly the point i was trying to make... times are a changin, get used to it folks.
Rudeness of people is not acceptable, i agree
but using my personal cell phone whenever i want is. This has nothing to do with self importance or lack of consideration. Simply the convience that drove us to getting a cell phone in the first place.
Speaking of rudeness why isnt it rude when we say to our caller that sorry but we are very busy standing in a line up right now and cant talk. How rude is that to dminish them over a Line up.
If im holding you up in the line up, then yes that would be rude if I was blatantly ignoring what was happening around me such as the cashier waiting for me to react. I think im aware enought to see that its time to get my cash out and pay.
I stand by my original statement of I have the right to talk on my phone saying whatever your little ears dont want to hear whenever I want. You have the right to leave. Others have the right and responsibilty to respond to screaming children, other people around them, and yes even give the cashier all their attention and time.
As far as being disturbed on the bus..well it is public transit...not your private personal car, if you are so bothered by others on the bus...get a car or stick your earplugs and blinders on.

| Cell Phones and Line-ups Don't Mix Posted: 5/27/2008 9:53:56 AM | If you are in a lineup, and the call is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, imporant to you, then get the heck out of the lineup, so that the line up can M - O - V - E, then.
Or, OR, tell your caller that you are in a lineup, and that you will give them a call right back, as soon as you are OUT, of the lineup.
Why?
1. Because, since ALL, your concentration is on that call, then YOU, are holding up the LINE.
2. Since you are out in PUBLIC, and since this is a PRIVATE conversation on your cell phone, then NO ONE, wants to hear what is going on between YOU, and YOUR caller.
So, take it to a quiet place, AWAY from other people, and AWAY from ANY line ups, so that YOU, can have your PRIVATE conversation with the caller on your cell phone.
REMEMBER, YOU, are NOT at HOME, YOU are OUT in the PUBLIC.
Good lord, IS THAT, SO HARD to understand?
Sheeeeesh, I would hope NOT!

| Cell Phones and Line-ups Don't Mix Posted: 5/27/2008 9:55:26 AM | Missy, I should be more careful with my wishes...lol
Great to note that some social skills are still present and people can still communicate...
Common courtesy, consideration, and respect would be nice.....but........
and that was what I implied with:"And those who excuse themselves as acting with the times...lol...try getting a life!" and NO it wasn't implied that people do not have the RIGHTS to use a cell...but rather that the attitude of some using their cells stink as per
if you are so bothered by others on the bus...get a car or stick your earplugs and blinders on. to courtesy that is like the apple thief telling his actions was the owners fault cuz the apple was on display for sale.

| Cell Phones and Line-ups Don't Mix Posted: 5/27/2008 10:28:26 AM | Funny.
My Cell rings 20-30 times A DAY, and that's just during business hours.
I have no time to consider if when I am receiving an important call whether or not it offends someone, I mean really, how could it?, should I be sorry I have clients or co-workers that need to get ahold of me for information?, as far as holding up a line, how in the hell could that happen with a blue tooth?.
Some people, it would seem, just need something or someone to whine about, really, like I could possibly care, and whats more, like my clients could either.
Maybe we all need to hold hands and sing kumbaya while realizing the person behind the counter, couldn't give a shit either, knowing we all have LIVES.
And ya, I could quote you too bud, but really, my cell just rang.

| Cell Phones and Line-ups Don't Mix Posted: 5/27/2008 11:09:59 AM | It's called being rude & having bad manners, when anyone is on their cell phone and they can't stop the conversation to deal what's happening in front of them. When you're in line up, dealing with people in front of you, put that cell phone down, and deal with what's in front you!!!!! It's not acceptable and if that call is so important, then finish your call and return to what you came to do. I once told someone in a line up, that everyone in this line up has things to do, than wait for Christmas to arrive. When I spoke up, everyone in the line up spoke up, and when they tried to give me a rude look, It didn't match our voices telling them to move it.
I haven't yet seen anyone explode in my life time, when cellphones weren't around and you won't disappear if you don't answer or stop your call, to talk to live human.
P.S. I don't need to hear your call on the bus, theater, line up, grocery store or any activity. If I can hear your personal information in a public space, who else is taking notes to your personal information.

Maybe we all need to hold hands and sing kumbaya while realizing the person behind the counter, couldn't give a shit either, knowing we all have LIVES. Truthisee business is business, have little trouble with that... the positive is that cells make us more available, and the negative that it may shorten out private time. I do think we all have a choice, the phone features allow for that, to make private time, don't you think?
I understand for some work the cell is (or has become) like a lifeline, but I doubt (by my observations) that this applies to most of the cell users we see hugging their phones.

| Cell Phones and Line-ups Don't Mix Posted: 5/27/2008 8:52:51 PM | Look ... people! I never once said I do any of those things in the lineup. I too can be responsible enough to keep the line moving.. I am aware of whats going on around me, I do get that other people are in a hurry and dont want to be held up. If I get distracted or interupted by you being around me I dont rant about that blaming you for scrambling for your debit card, visa ,chit chatting with the cashier, or attending to your children, or listening to you tell your friend/boss/coworker/children/lover/ mate youll call them right back-that you are in the line up- so cant chat- ya - so---ill call you in like- hmmlooks around- checks out others around-saying finally- 10 min soon k - k - bye- giggles and says sorry then carries on ...no, I just let you be and decide if I like or dislike your behavior. I could leave if Im really bothered, but no... I just smile and think wow..I would do things different than them, oh well. This is my life, not yours.
hmmm this is my first time actually debating a point on these forums... this is fun.. i enjoy a good one now and again ....how am I doing so far?

Good lord, IS THAT, SO HARD to understand?
not ALL of my attention is on that call, you cannot say thats true, and I insist I dont hold up the LINE while taking my calls.
PUBLIC space allows me some freedoms right? i define whats PRIVATE, not you. some people enjoy a good eavesdrop, so NO ONE is yet another possible false
I do speak quiet and move along, so why cant I do both take the call while respecting others spaces and keep my place in line. PUBLIC spaces allow all sorts of varieties in personalitites and freedom to allow personal attributes to be shown. Do we ban all types of this? Good luck, let me know when you suceed in that!
All im saying is cant I take the call or be on the call while in the line up if Im not holding up the line? AND if im simply making noise that bothers you, cant you just put up with me for just a moment or two? I do that everyday with all sorts of things... I only worry about what I can change in my control..uhmmm.. ya that would only be me, so try it! Change your actions, not mine.
Dakota... Its not so hard to understand what you are saying, I simply disagree with the logic.

| Cell Phones and Line-ups Don't Mix Posted: 5/28/2008 7:13:54 AM | ^^^^Dakota...
Its not so hard to understand what you are saying, I simply disagree with the logic.
Hmmmm, interesting, especially with disagreeing with the logic.
Oh, well, I suppose most woman don't agree with logic anyhooooo, because, that is not their form of thinking or speaking, I suppose.

| Cell Phones and Line-ups Don't Mix Posted: 5/28/2008 8:14:00 AM | Hmmmmmmm…….I personally don’t care what people think when my phone rings. Being in business I don’t have a choice but to answer it. What does bug me though is people that seem to get extra loud, it’s like they figure their pretty cool cause their phone rang and they need the attention. Oh yeah the other thing that bugs me is when your in a restaurant and the people that just have to stand up from the chair and start yakking. Like do they get better reception this way? I must admit I’m getting better at leaving the dam thing in the truck while I’m on a date. | |

Ya, it sure seems that, way, however, are there are some woman, I said, SOME WOMAN, who think in illogical terms tho?
*Oh yeah the other thing that bugs me is when your in a restaurant and the people that just have to stand up from the chair and start yakking. Like do they get better reception this way?*
Or MORE, personal attention, maybe?
*I must admit I’m getting better at leaving the dam thing in the truck while I’m on a date.*
Good point, and more people should be doing that instead, of having the cell phone on them.
Now, I wonder if some, SOME, illogically thinking woman, are capable of doing that as well, or is it a MUST, for some of them to have their cell phone with them, just so they don't miss that ALL important NEXT call, from their next date, or, from any one of their girlfriends, to tell them, that they must hurry to the hospital, because, one of their girlfriends are giving birth to a baby.
It makes ya wonder, does it not.
What next, eh, WHAT NEXT. LOL LOL LOL
Talk about the illogical world of DRAMA, DRAMA, and MORE DRAMA.

| Cell Phones and Line-ups Don't Mix Posted: 5/28/2008 9:59:15 AM | *ringy-ringy....better go answer your cell*
Mountain lion 1, that is oh so funy, and cool.
Man, as if some people need to carry the cell phone on them, when out on a date, unless ya want a party of more then two yakking away. Now, how can ya carry on a proper conversation, doing that.
Unless you are a super multi-tasker.

| Cell Phones and Line-ups Don't Mix Posted: 5/28/2008 10:28:08 AM | Oh and the last place you should take phone with you is in the liquor store. The other week I was getting a bottle of wine, a Friday night. Here’s this woman on her cell phone yaking to her dam boyfriend and paying with a debit card! For the record this is just wrong! Us guys hate line ups, we also always pay with cash, we never use debit as it takes for ever to get to the till. We want to be in and out so we can crack a cold one. So woman please refrain from the cell calls while getting your booze. | |

^^^^That is probably the best one I have heard yet, ya, at least paying by cash, SOME of us guys KNOW, that the item(s) ARE PAYED FOR, and NO credit card bill to worry about, WITHOUT holding up the line, PERIOD.
Otherwise, by adding to the price of your purchase, by yakking on the cell phone for one, and purchasing your item(s) by credit card, as well as taking more time in the line up to make your purchase, while yaking on the cell phone, and making a purchase with your credit card.
That ONLY leads to, having to wait for the bill to come later from the credit card company, along with any other accumilated expenses, and along with the high interest rates on top of that, to make the credit card bill even higher still, let alone the cell phone bill as well.
NOW, HOW, ILLOGICAL can you get, eh.

Of course you do! It falls under the heading of "You have the right to be an ***hole" However, it doesn't negate the fact that the use of cell phones in a public place requires the use of both common courtesy and common sense, both of which seem to be sadly lacking in so many of the cell-phone-dependent weaklings.
