| Cell Phones and Line-ups Don't Mix Posted: 5/29/2008 1:24:12 AM | I have those original car phones,,,all attached to the car,,, of course I speak hands free ,,,while listening to "far out" songs of CCR and Harry Nilson on my 8 track stereo.
One of the original carphones, ya I remember them, they are the ones that are like radio transmitter type of phones, with a trunkmounted antenna.
However, listening to tunes from CCR, Harry Nilson, ok, but on an "8 track"?
Like YIKES, thats going back a long ways, a long, loooooooooooooooooooong ways.

| Cell Phones and Line-ups Don't Mix Posted: 5/29/2008 7:48:07 AM | at the illogical thinking of others
Care to elaborate on that?
I hear ya Mountain, but as far as private time, you mean when I'm sleeping right?...
Some of us do not work in office settings, I'm a contractor, I work in the field, thereby cell phones are vital to my business, nuff said, don't like it, too bad, nothing you could say will ever change my mind, if you did what I do and did not have a cell you would be without work, period.
In the meantime...
imjstlookin4u and me will stand in line two meters away from each-other talking on our cells, laughing and poking fun at the busy-bodies that think the only way to live is by their ill conceived ideology.
And ya, say something to me and I'll just turn my back on you and laugh....

ps cant you just say yes... you have the right and reason enough to take a call in public??
if the answer is no

| Cell Phones and Line-ups Don't Mix Posted: 5/29/2008 9:09:45 AM | Truthisee right, like I said business is business and when that must interfere with private life it is not too much to ask of another person to be excused, is it? I don't think the cell phone is a work related life line for most users, though it would appear every one is so important...lol I chose to shut my phone off then and attend matter later, perhaps because I can or my clients have learned to accept that. I don't have the phone on when attending lectures, business meetings , in the theater or when on a date.
My point is that the private cell use is a matter of choice and priorities. Those who grew up before cell phones will know that people managed quite well and the y didn't over exaggerate unimportant petty matters by yapping on the phone while imposing on others, that is still possible to do today. When a call comes in it is not much to ask telling a caller "can I call you right back?", or not answer and call back later, is it? IMHO persons who chose not to do that when in my presence or attending other matters have different priorities and I find that inconsiderate.

No need to elaborate!
It is exactly as it is says, "illogcal thinking" IS, "illogacal thinking".
As for the ones "that feel" that they are "being picked on", that is "their/your choice", to "feel that way", "of how they want to feel".
Translated, I am "not responsible" for someone "choosing to feel how they choose to feel", "They are responsibile" for their "own feelings" of how "they want to, and choose to feel", "logically speaking".
If I "get a cell phone call" , "OR", "make a cell phone call" in the "public", I take it "someplace" where "the cell phone call" is in "privacy", so that I am "not disturbing anyone else".
Or, "OR", in this case, "in a line up" I "tell the caller, that I am in a line up" and "tell them that I will call back" as soon as "I am out of the line up" So as "not to disturb anyone around me".
WHY?
Because, "they do not want to hear what my business is", PERIOD.
CAPICHE!
C A P I C H E!
As saying goes, "moving on, nexxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxt".

| Cell Phones and Line-ups Don't Mix Posted: 5/29/2008 9:52:22 AM | When one journeys out into the public, be it in whatever capacity, the expectation of privacy is rendered completely null and void. Do not make the assumption that I am not fully aware that my conversations via cell phones do not infringe on somebody's personal space, having said that tho, my personal space has been infringed upon by those partaking in loud and at times ridiculous conversations, with both others in line ups, or the cashier. Do I say anything?, nope, what would give me the right?.
I turn my ringer off and allow voice-mail to receive my calls at the same appropriate times as many others, in meetings, my days off, and after 8pm, and I expect others to do the same, but am not offended if they do not, who is to say the importance of a call someone receives?.
To be honest I hate cells and wish at times satellites would simply drop from the sky, yet, they have their uses. As I said before it would be business suicide not to have a cell when working. Prospective clients will call no matter where I am, so will co-workers, and each always seem to have some frikken emergency.
My point is that the private cell use is a matter of choice and priorities
Right, and I agree %100, yet as I said, when in public areas there is no privacy, to believe that someone should respect your personal thoughts and ideals pertaining to cell phone use in public venues is again, ridiculous, (tho I do understand), and if it offends someone that I am taking a call then that quite simply is not my problem.
Just to illustrate my point today is a day off for me, my ringer is off, 8 calls already.
Reminds of a commercial where the guy uses his phone as a skipping stone.......hell ya.

| Cell Phones and Line-ups Don't Mix Posted: 6/9/2008 11:44:52 AM | I don't talk on my phone all the time, I only have a 200 Minuit anytime plan, but when someone needs to talk to me, it is going to happen where ever I am *not counting theaters*. I have found myself in a few lines talking on my phone, with or with out my headset and I get to the till, and the girl tells me how much it is and I hand her my VISA and she gives me the receipt. This doesn't slow me or her down one bit. There is no reason for her to need to talk to me....I know this because they don't talk to me when I'm not on my phone....why would they when I'm on it? Granted I have a very quiet voice.
I see no reason why one can not use a headset when driving, it's just like talking with the person next to you. Not that I do that often, but it happens.
Unlike a lot of people, I do not spend all my free time sitting around at home, and if my friends need to talk to me to find out what is going on and where we are meeting up, or my work wants me in for overtime my cell is with me. We live in a busy world with things changing every minute, I am just keeping up with the times.
