I agree with DreamyGoddess in message 3.
If I see a fat person in trackydacs and fluffy slippers shopping in Woolies, I think they are a lazy slob. If I then see that same person dressed neatly, waltzing on the dance floor, I'll recatalogue them as an active person with a weight problem, who could be worth talking to.
If I see a skinny person in trackydacs and fluffy slippers shopping at woolies, I think they are a slob.
While I know their weight doesn't equal how active they are, it does when I form a first opinion of them.
I am always willing to change my opinion of a person, usually because I can't remember what it was, and I form another first impression again.

It all depends...if they are over weight and dirty looking and unhygienic I am sure I would just say that, provided they don't have intellectual or psychological disability.
If they have either of those disability and look a slob then I blame it on their condition and I would even blame the weight problem on the condition too.

But I know many over weight people who are extremely tidy and clean and look and smell as fresh as heaven.

I agree god. I know a few overweight people that fall into each of the above categories. One of them (a woman) always has hair and makeup immaculate, nice clothes and accessories and always looks really wellgroomed. The other (a guy) is the opposite and wears the most oldest, baggiest trackpants, not always clean either, thongs, old big faded t shirts and never brushes his hair or gets a haircut. He really does look like a slob.

Whether or not I consider a horizontaly challenged person as being a slob is determined by the number of BBQ sauce stains on their clothes, and whether they use their sleaves to wipe their nose.

Many people dont measure up to my level of fitness, bodyshape etc.
Many more do and surpass me.
Those that dont measure up, i guess i can judge on their short-commings.
And i guess i often do . . . even though i know i shouldnt.

If somebody has a condition however, lets say . . . Down's Syndrome or such, any physical imperfection is more like to be a result of that disability than the result of lazyness or sloth.
I wouldnt judge that person and i am sure nobody in this forum would.
Because WE ARE ALL very understanding and tolerant when it comes down (oops) to it.

Avo you have made it plainly clear you don't know anything about nutrition. This is actually a very healthy meal as the Diet Coke cancels out all the fat, that's what it was invented for.

When I managed a music store my areamanager always insited that we only employ skinny blonde girls "cause they sell more merchandise" which is what retail in particular is all about. Selling to shallow ppl who judge the sales girls on looks. Sad but true.

Hi {Roses}
I don't want to offend, but as you have asked I will give my opinion as honestly as possible. Personally I don't think of overweight people as slobs, the [not take care of herself] bit does ring true to me however. Not only do I not want to offend, nor do I feel comfortable in generalising, as individuals have their own reasons for being overweight. In saying that however, my opinion of people is that for some reason or another they have fallen into bad/lazy habits, not to say that they are bad or lazy - but the habits made or lifestyle choices of these people are not condusive to good health. Again, underweight people are in a similar position. I think that Carson Kresley from "How to look good naked" is on to something, with regards to how you feel about yourself and the way this comes across. A movie that I find helpful is WHAT THE BLEEP DO WE KNOW, I've seen it at my local library and I am about to watch the next one over the weekend.
I hope this is of help, Keep your chin up, Feel Gorgeous inside, and BE ACTIVE! BB

You know... I was in the gym a while ago, and I noticed a majority of the people in there were overweight. A few days later I was in McDonalds and noticed everyone in there was of normal and healthy weight.

The only conclusion I can draw from this is that McDonalds is fine, but the gym makes you fat.

AVOID THE GYM!

That's hilarious Whitegold, I love it.

My last b/f was a Personal Trainer who lived on tuna and Vita Wheats. He looked great but I never really considered that a sustainable lifestyle. Of the two of us I had the better eating habits, just he worked out all day with clients, while I struggle to manage 1/2 hr cardio and 1/2 hr weights a day.

The thing is, when I eat well and work out I feel great. My skin is clearer, my hair shines and I smile a hell of alot more. Anyone who considered me a slob because I'm big isn't looking real hard.

I have a friend who is slightly smaller than me, drinks about 2 litres of coke a day, wont eat anything unless it's deep fried and covered in tomato sauce and actually has a whole selection of lollies in her top drawer at work. Her hair and skin are always oily and she wheezes after 3 minutes of walking. The only time I see her at all 'active' is when she is getting blind drunk on a fri night, the rest of the time she pretty much sits around.

I guess 'big' doesn't NEED to equate to lazy or make you a slob. But if you are big because you let yourself go well.....I guess this is where these opinions stem from.

For those of us who have to work twice as hard to look half as thin, at least in the long run those healthy habits that help you lose weight are also prolonging your health and life.

I've found something that works for me...

When I eat healthily and be active I fit into a generous size 10 to small size 12. If I let go and eat too much junk and sit around too much, pretty soon my size 12 clothes are getting tight and I start getting the dreaded muffin top, and this is my signal to cut out the junk and get active again.

I've alway managed to stay size 10-12 and aim to keep it that way,

I can't afford to buy a whole new wardrobe! And I always feel better about myself when I know I'm eating good fresh food, getting plenty of fresh air and exercise... and most of all, my clothes feel comfy and I feel like they look good on me.

NOTE TO SELF: Remove slippers before going shopping. (How I wish we could just be judged by our brains/thoughts - not by our bodies - guess that would nullify "genetic selection" even for those of us who don't intend to breed)

Bio I know how fat and lazy you are!

Its true we do sub consciously sum someone up with in a few minutes of meeting or observing them.
Is it physically harder for a obese person to
vacumn a house
make a house full of beds
mow lawns
grow fresh vegetables
scrub floors

Im sure it is... do I think obese people are lazy. Probably on some levels I do. Do I think a so called gym junky is a control freak .. Probably on some levels. Does it equate to them being a bad person? ...no
Do I think fat/obese people are fixing their feelings of self worth with food..yes.
Do I think they are unworthy of respect? .. no
I dislike fat and thin people equally. I like them equally too.
I dont tend to do alot of physical things.. like hiking and dancing, swimming out door activities... etc with any of my overwieght friends ... why not... they dont want to? At the end of the day I honestly think they are lazy and thier self esteem is involved too.

Monbaby get your fat lazy arsth outside and actually do something ..like /coffee.. and BioA you can wear you negligee on Wednesday...

I think how we look, reflects what we do, how we eat, and the things we value. Bodies are very different. Metabolism and the bodies ability to process foods is often vastly different for different people. When people understand and appreciate their own bodies, they can care for them better and enjoy them.

Gym junkies do have control issues, but in my experience, they rarely want control over others. They are usually way to self focussed and self directed to waste time trying to manage others. Those that go on to train others, often realise that you can't motivate another, you really do just have to maintain your own inspiration and just kind of let it overflow...

Many "gym junkies" are fully aware of what its like to have been overweight, and just don't want to go back there. I have read how a few people on the forums are on journeys of personal self discovery. Learning how our individual bodies respond to food as fuel can also be very good for us. We are all very different. It's individual.

I love the gym, but I have lazy periods. I am lazy for as long as I can be, and then the moment I don't like myself as I am, I get back into it and set a new training goal. Overweight people in nightclubs? I have no opinion on them directly or generally. They are living the lives they choose for themselves and that is cool with me.

We have height in the profile. Should we also have a weight section as well? Why hide this obvious physical feature?

These threads always make me laugh... why do we need a weight section?? Can you determine a persons physicality by their weight?? Are you so sure you can determine a persons shape and look by a number??? Those of you who do must be geniuses. The BMI is a subjective tool used to measure height weight ratio and determine if you are within an acceptable range... does it fit all? No... if you are in to exercise you can and most often do report as being in the o/weight obese range because of muscle mass. If you have a thicker neck you can fail another assessment for height weight ratio.

Happy_lil its interesting you think bigger ppl arent interested in physical activities or dont want to do things like dancing and bush walking etc... I know alot of people who are within the healthy height weight ratio who refuse to get off their butts and move, and I know alot of bigger ppl who do exercise and are active..

Yeah lots of bigger people have shit diets as do skinny people but genetics play a part as does the endocrine system. Some of these people are malnourished because of the quality of the food they eat and some are not.
Interestingly those who are trying to lose weight ... eat less than 1200 calories a day and you will trip your body into starvation mode and your metabolism will store everything you eat. Those who dont eat 3 meals a day also suffer this fate as do shift workers who notoriously eat poorly. Poor sleep habits will also make you gain weight. Yep there can be an emotional component to why people overeat and poor self esteem comes into it. But there is also a likelyhood that some of these people have eating disorders ( yes there are more than just bulimia and anorexia) Gee then we can get into the number of brown fat cells versus yellow and how yellow fat cells stretch and multiply and brown doesnt ... the list of why people are the way they are is never ending...

I'm a bigger girl (d'uh obvious by nickname) but I have an extremely physical job, and I go to the gym 3 to 4 times a week (determined by shift work) and I get out and about on days off when I am not belting thru the house getting everything done plus studying. And no I dont eat junk food. But I dare say the majority would label me fat and lazy... but thats just a reflection of their own stuff

The reality is if you want to have height and weight on the profile we might as well add a psychological profile too... things like Mental health issues ( depression, anxiety ,bipolar, schizophrenia), Drug treatment (MMT, OPT, Rehab etc) Previous pregnancy ... (incontinence issues, poor pelvic floor tone) just to list a few... this should let us judge people even more or how about a Where do you shop... KMART or JAG for your clothes... FFS isnt it about time people got real and got on with the real business of living and being and accepting others for the part they play in the journey we all share ... life??

Hey why not?
I'd think it would be a lot more informative than someone's Star Sign for instance.
I'd agree that a BMI number isn't precise but it's a lot more precise than some peoples mirrors, methinks.

None of that makes obese folk automatically lazy, but I reckon it's more usually associated that way for pretty obvious reasons.
