| comments please?? Posted: 6/3/2008 6:49:09 AM | | ok i was reading through this thread and relised that some are mistaking a slob for an over weight person. im not over weight but im larger than i want to be , i dress tidy for work every day in a clean uniform and pride myself on my apperance. no one picks me for being a slob which im starting to turn into , due to work and things im running out of time everyday and dont get to do some of the things i need to. so if someone was to come into my half upturned house they would concider me a slob. i try to eat rather healthy and if i can i will have 2 showers a day just so i feel clean. but the house isn't doing me justice. | |

Do you think that being a slob is due to someones weight....??
I'm impossible to see standing sideways in strong light. So for me the answer is no.
It doesn't come naturally, I have to work at it all the time.

| comments please?? Posted: 6/4/2008 5:22:08 AM | Now, slob reminds me of slut - the word. Slut originally didn't have that sexual connotation, it was originally a kitchen drudge. Then a slut was a slovenly woman (though according to dictionary.com, Chaucer thought men could be sluttish, and Samual Pepys was very pleased in the 1600s that his daughter was coming along well as a slut.)
Slob (because I wasn't really sure of the meaning, I haven't heard that word used in ages) according to the dic, is slovenly or boorish, mud or muddy, coarse or obnoxious. Now, I thought a slob was someone who was lazy and unhygenic. Are some fat people lazy and unhygenic - sure, I reckon some of just about every type of person you can imagine are lazy and unhygenic. On the other hand, and at the risk of being a bloody Pollyanna, I tend to think that people who are lazy and dirty, are that way because a. they're depressed, b. they don't know any better, c. some other reason I haven't imagined yet. Because, really, seriously, who wants to do nothing and smell? Where's the fun in that? Yes, of course, they could go have a bath, and do the dishes, but they don't think that will make any difference, so why bother. (I'm getting very involved in my story now. It's boring everyone, isn't it?)
So, rather than ask, "are fat people slobs?" and stereotype a group, ask, "who's dishes can I do, and how much better will we all feel, when I'm done?" (Oh no, I just described a slut, didn't I?)

| Do you think that being a slob is due to someones weight....?? Posted: 6/14/2008 9:21:01 PM | No, no, no. Weight has nothing to do with being a slob. People that think that way are very very shallow. I don't form judgements on people for the way they look, I wait to meet someone talk and still don't judge. Hope this question is not because of something you have confronted. Hope it is a general question. Keep Smiling | |

Like that wicked sense of humour.
