| Does anyone watch Top Chef? Posted: 6/5/2008 12:14:27 PM | I don't think Richard and Stephanie were meaning to be "rude" in general to Lisa in not directly and immediately congratulating her; but I honestly believe they both were shocked and taken back that Antonia went home for "Al Dente Pigeon beans". The look on Stephanie's face was pure shock. I thought it was also pretty petty and balsy of Lisa to even ask for a congratulations. Lisa knew they were all friends and of course they are going to be shocked and stunned. It doesn't mean they "don't like" Lisa, it simply means they were genuinely shocked. Kindly allow them their moment to overcome it, and later on their own admission, congratulate you.
My pick to win is Stephanie.... as I admire her calmness even when things around her fall apart, like Dale leaving the pork belly out all night. She came through and didn't panick. I was truly impressed. I love Richard too, don't get me wrong, but I just don't think he is as good underpressure as Stephanie is and although he has cooking skills no one else has seen, I think the pressure of things will get to him before his cooking skills do, if that makes sense.

| Does anyone watch Top Chef? Posted: 6/5/2008 4:07:16 PM | I couldn't agree w/ your post more uptowncaligirl. I like both Stephanie and Richard...would love to see either of them win but Stephanie is amazing under pressure. Esp. that pork belly fiasco (Dale felt horrible about that). Richard seems to want/need the win more BUT he also just won a car...
Yes and they were shocked on the Lisa deal and that should have come as no surprise. Lisa is just a pill as my Grandma used to say.
PS. Have any of you ever eaten pork belly? You always hear that term related to the stock market but WTH? Who eats it? What does it taste like???
|
| Does anyone watch Top Chef? Posted: 6/5/2008 7:07:47 PM | | Pork belly is where (American) bacon comes from. So you probably eat it all the time. :) | |

| Does anyone watch Top Chef? Posted: 6/5/2008 7:12:24 PM | | Really! Wow! Never knew that! I made it just this past weekend wrapped around water chestnuts...pork belly! Who knew? | |

| Does anyone watch Top Chef? Posted: 6/5/2008 9:51:58 PM | If Richard does not win Top Chef it's because he screwed himself. He has the most talent at this point.
Lisa, she's luckey she's made it this far.
Steph, I do like her but I just don't see the fire in her eyes. But it is probably about time that this show let a female win, so it may just happen this season.
I do like Top Chef. I've watched since the first season. I think it's the best show out there for cooking challenges. But to actually think it's really a reality show is a little much.
If you want to watch a reality show that is as close as any reality show can get, watch The Deadliest Catch. No cooking, but a real deal.

| Does anyone watch Top Chef? Posted: 6/6/2008 8:28:07 AM | I'm hoping Steph wins but I won't be disappointed if it is Richard I thought from the beginning that he was the strongest candidate, however Steph seems to not say much, not brag much and still wow the judges and the people who eat her food. | |

| Does anyone watch Top Chef? Posted: 6/6/2008 9:49:44 AM | Thanks Katie... I've been watching the re-run from the Top Chef Puerto Rico - Final Four show from this week, and you know what, Lisa didn't congratulate Richard either when he won! She basically just said to him.....Wow dude you won a (bleeping) car? Perhaps behind the scenes she did congratulate him but not on camera! YET she expected it from them? I think if she had any tact (at all), she would have said something a little on the lighter side to them... like......"congratulations guys" and shook their hands or hugged them or whatever they do and NOT made it so "personal" and all about her. They would have said it back to her, as well. To me that shows weakness in Lisa and makes her vulernable for their acceptance. She always talks about kicking ass and "you won't be disappointed", but we (I) have yet to see it from her. Bring it girlfriend, don't sing it!
The next episode looks interesting from the previews they have been showing. Apparently Richard says something (either to the judges or about perhaps one of the contestants) as I can't quite tell yet.... and it seems to upset Gale (the panel judge) or at least she seems shocked and I'm not sure it's a good or bad thing yet. They are making it seem bad though perhaps for hype for the show -- as I can't imagine Richard losing his cool under any circumstance or saying anything unbecoming to anyone as he has always represented himself as a gentleman all the way through this Top Chef contest. I'm thinking that they are making it like a cliff hanger.... you know last time they felt he won and went to give him a prize he said he felt Stephanie was the winner (for the wedding cake) and wanted her to have the prize.... and they ended up sharing the prize. Although I doubt you can share the TOP CHEF award LOL, perhaps he didn't feel he won and hands it to Stephanie, as her face looked shocked on the previews as well. Who knows! Hmmmmmmmm it will be interesting and I'm looking forward to Wednesday now to find out.

| Does anyone watch Top Chef? Posted: 6/6/2008 10:03:11 AM | I have a general reality show question for my fellow reality show junkies: what do the people do when they're not doing a challenge or filming an episode? In any of these shows - ok, so on Top Chef they're cooking for 2 hours - then what? Or on a bachelor show, they go on a date - then what? On many of these shows they're not allowed to watch TV or be on the computer, some of them can't even phone home! What are they doing for all those hours that they're not filming that week's episode? Does anyone know?
Just curious...

| Does anyone watch Top Chef? Posted: 6/6/2008 11:35:39 AM | It is my opinion that most the reality type shows are filmed (in advance) months and months ago and they aren't going on right now live. Their outcomes or winners of the shows are already known before the show actually airs for us. So I don't think watching tv, being on the internet or even phoning home for any of the contestants on any of the shows is an issue. For instance, I've seen Antonia call her daughter on Top Chef, I've read about "Jason" on the Bachelorette (Deanna) reality show calling home and talking to his son, Miguel on Step it Up and Dance called his mother and cried, etc. So I think there is a lot of hype into what they allow you to think is going on when in reality (no pun intended) most of the shows have already been filmed, and the outcome is known months before the show airs.
How they keep things a "secret" with no leaks on the winner for months and months before airing is what would be a better question. I would assume they are all paid a certain amount of money AND/OR they have all signed something stating they won't t talk to the press, etc., until after the show is aired and is over. Again, I am only guessing.

| Does anyone watch Top Chef? Posted: 6/6/2008 12:22:08 PM | | Fun topic, so hooked on that show! I am disgusted to see that Lisa this "negative-atttude, nightmare" has made it to the final few. Plus, she destroyed two rice dishes and what's her name gets sent home for undercooked beans, so wrong in my opinion. I think Richard rocks, thought Spike was hilarious and since he was/is? working at Mai House in Tribeca had the pleasure of meeting him very briefly prior to him being on the show, so nice in person and delicious food! | |

| Does anyone watch Top Chef? Posted: 6/6/2008 9:45:25 PM | | I've thought from the beginning that Lisa has no class and blames everyone else for her shortcomings. I'm disapointed that she is still in the game, but don't expect her to to win. She's not nearly as talented as either Richard or Stephanie. I still think Richard will win, although I'd really like to see Stephanie do it. | |
|
| Does anyone watch Top Chef? Posted: 6/7/2008 8:02:09 PM | | I don't know the participants name like all you do,but have seen the show and enjoyed it much, some had such a hard time handling the kitchen pressure and others like fish in water ! | |

| Does anyone watch Top Chef? Posted: 6/10/2008 10:28:11 AM | So, fellow foodies - are you all watching the Next Food Network TV Star?
I'm pretty addicted to all these shows, I have to admit! To me, they're so much more entertaining than scripted sitcoms or dramas, since the comedy and drama are all pretty spontaneous on these reality shows, even if a bit forced! For example, on this latest one, Nipa had a meltdown and walked out of the judging room - and even so, kept her spot for another week! I didn't agree that the other guy should go instead of her, but the judges seemed to tip their hand by saying they really liked the idea of an Indian food program since the network doesn't have one. The guy, I think his name was Kevin, was criticized for having no clear "voice" at all...
Anyway, what do you all think of it?

| Does anyone watch Top Chef? Posted: 6/10/2008 11:08:59 AM | | I've been watching the food star one as well. I haven't really seen enough to know who I like and dislike yet. The snooty one though... I feel like she needs to go. I would never watch her if she had her own show at this point. | |
|
| Does anyone watch Top Chef? Posted: 6/10/2008 11:24:55 AM | I agree with you - it was interesting that the very first challenge she was dead last! It really took her down a peg, and at least she was honest enough to admit it!
I think the short little blonde has a lot of potential, the rest still blur together...

| Does anyone watch Top Chef? Posted: 6/11/2008 8:31:21 PM | | I was very very happy with tonight's ending. I won't go into detail right now because not everyone may have watched this yet. :) | |
|
| Does anyone watch Top Chef? Posted: 6/11/2008 10:14:11 PM | Me too sherilyn...it was the best outcome...also it was kinda sad if you know what I mean. Dang I want that meal though! | |
|
| Does anyone watch Top Chef? Posted: 6/11/2008 10:25:00 PM | I'm so glad Stephanie won!!! Richard kind of froze.... and I really liked him too. But the best one won.I love to cook so watching it always gives me new things to try out. | |
|
| Does anyone watch Top Chef? Posted: 6/11/2008 10:29:36 PM | YAY YAY YAY! A female Top Chef! And the best one!
I was very happy for all of them, they all did well, there was really no big mistake or drama, they were all professional - it was very high class!
So happy for the girl!

| Does anyone watch Top Chef? Posted: 6/11/2008 10:30:00 PM | I agree, I would have preferred Richard to win, but Stephanie was so creative and played the game with class. It was so sad that Richard choked though :( If I had to pick I would have preferred that chef to win.
If there are any professional chefs are on this thread I would sure be interested in hearing their opinions as maybe they see it from another perspective?

| Does anyone watch Top Chef? Posted: 6/11/2008 10:59:39 PM | | Hurrah for Stephanie!!!! I was bummed for Richard, but just delighted that Lisa did not win. I like Steph, she is so likeable and humble, I'm very happy for her! | |
|
| Does anyone watch Top Chef? Posted: 6/12/2008 2:54:57 AM | | Yes, I am extremely pleased that Stephanie won. I was sad that Richard choked as much as he did... I would have liked him to have a solid 2nd place. That's what killed Casey from getting top chef last year, she choked in the final competition. I really didn't like that Lisa did so well, she didn't deserve to win and I would have been very upset if she had. I didn't feel like she deserved any of the limelight and apparently neither did america with only 4% saying they thought she should win in their poll. | |
|
| Does anyone watch Top Chef? Posted: 6/12/2008 4:15:28 AM | I was rooting for Casey last season, but not disappointed that Hung won, I think he was the best cook, I just didn't admire his attitude. BUT Yeah Steph! She has class and all the traits that a Top Chef should have ( as does Richard) Her and Antonia should open a restaurant together, they seemed to have made a great team. | |
