| Have you ever been given an award, or won something? Posted: 5/31/2008 1:23:47 PM | It was a symocast ~ at Remmington field ~ I'd lost the first 5 races ` " Go for Gin" mud runner in the 6th at the Derby track ~ ~ It hit me! 20 min. before gate time ~ 'That horse is going to win! " and clondyke in the 7th !
I was rain in Kentucky! ~ I layed down 200.00 to win! ~ My smart girl friend ~~ said No! don't do that , hedge your bet ~ place show and win ~ so I did . ~
Go for Gin won! ~ $ 1800.00 I think ~! it would have been much more if I hadn't change my bet! ~ I was so excited I forgot about Clondyke ~ and it won too! I didn't even get to bet!
Would you believe it ~~ that very girlfriend just call before I could finish typing that last sentence ~ it's been 10 years ago ! freeky! she's leaving town and want me to look after her critters.
I have things like that happening to me often anymore ~ I call it clean living and a clear mind ~ wish I could control it ~ but it just seems to happen, out of the blue.

I am a 4 time winner of the bowler of the year in the town I am originally from and have several rings for my 298,299,300 games and 800 series. Bowling is my one thing I can brag about from time to time. But I have always said, I would rather be known as a good person instead of a great bowler.

Posted: 5/31/2008 6:21:30 PM | When I was in college I won money in a football pool that we had going during my apartment building's Super Bowl party. That was fun!! I loved the old neighborhood: I had the coolest neighbors: one was in the wine business and threw wine tasting parties for us. Another had a boat and let me drive it up and down the Halifax River, and yet another had his own plane. We flew together and had lots of fun poking holes in the Florida skies. What wonderful memories! I will always cherish those years.

Plaques and trophys and writeups in the city paper. The highest honor was "staffer of the year" given by one of the city papers; for journalism, which was pretty good considering I lived in a huge city with gads, like 20 high schools (San Antonio). Won a scholarship to college.
After the school years.... i won a photo contest - for wildlife photo - a sika deer. I used to work for a national company with huge numbers of sales reps and territory salesmen and I always won 1st or 2nd place in my area or in the country.
Haven't won anything but heartache in a few years now...

Synchronicity....
Oh, I forgot one.
In my first year of college (a community college, I'm no elitist) , they had a beer bash. Being quite the enthusiast of supporting my college, , I told my Mom that I was going. At that point, she had (quite incorrectly) assumed I'd never gone out drinking before.
(Hey, it wasn't my fault...she COULD have asked.... )
So I left for the party, an innocent virgin about to be sacrificed to the God Baccus...at least in her eyes.
Later that night, I returned, with the prize I had won - a plaque for fastest Chug A Lug @ 1.5 seconds , which I had defended all night against a large number of fierce competitors - as the true sportsman that I am.
Seeing the look on my Mom's face, while looking at my rather innocent one, convinced me of two things.
One, I'd probably never make it on the professional poker circuit.
Two, perhaps politics indeed was the career for me.
Since then, like some gunslinger from the Old West, many have tried to out draw me...or out draught me , I guess.
They have all died, with their boots on.
