Are Golf Shirts the same thing as a Polo? it depends on what type of golf shirts you're talking about? they have the light weight fabric button up golf shirts (a lot are in plaids from what i've seen) and then you have the polo which come in a lot of nice solid colors keeping you more in style with comparing golf to every day attire.
yes, polos are in, they're meant for casual attire. you wouldn't go to a formal affair or an elegant restaurant wearing one but you could wear it for breakfast, brunch, or lunch meetings, or any casual affair that doesn't require a suit and tie.
if you're not sure of what to wear....i highly suggest you wear something that's casual to your liking. i'm by far a fashion guru and love my jeans and t-shirts and i know that jeans will never fade out of style, just different types (print or striped fabrics).

I don't really think polos are EVER out for men - just wear something appropriate for the situation - you can dress polos up or down by wearing them with shorts, jeans, or khakis. But don't forget to put on some decent shoes to match!

I dress the way I want and I have no problems dating and people say I look good. I'm not going to run to the clothing store to please those around me so I can be accepted. I know our country is a bunch of lemmings and have to "be in", but I wear what I want and Im' happy and just fine thank you.

Also newsboy caps are very popular again. I love them, they just do not work well on me.
Polo shirts will always be in style as they are not trendy but classic and classic never goes out of style. The pink polo shirts are out of style though. Pink is out of style for men right now.

what the heck are we supposed to wear? Who cares?
I've never really bothered to pay attention to what fashion-worshippers say I should be wearing, based on what's "in style" at any given moment.
I'm quite comfortable just wearing what I feel like.
Perhaps some dedicated fashion-followers may be offended by someone like me? But at least I'm not a mindless follower who's too pre-occupied with the concept of trying to fit in.

I am gonna say, please don't try salmon colored anything. I know it's a preference thing, but...blue or green or maybe orange are all better choices.
Chicken-sh*ts. Why are you afraid of salmon colored Polo's or other types of shirts? I think you are confusing salmon color for "pink". Not that pink is a bad color. Salmon is just about orange and it is an excellent color and goes with a lot of stuff. You take a nice salmon polo mixed with the perfect pair of Diesel jeans and you tell me that is a bad look???? The problem is this site is to diverse. We have all range of ages, and all different types of people. Preppy, gothic, rockers, normal etc. Obviously some of the females are not up with mens fashion.

| If the Polo shirts are out, what the heck are we supposed to wear? Posted: 5/31/2008 5:21:46 PM | Uhh.. salmon is bad, because of the fact that it is salmon. Salmon is not pink, nor orange. Salmon has no qualifying factors, and a direct state of your personality in a sense of radicalism. When you wear salmon, as far as the color is concerned, it can say "I'm the guy who doesn't make drastic decisions, so I'll opt to be 'fashionable' with bad fashion, and still seem neutral."
Puh-leeze, any man that wears a pink polo, salmon, fuchsia, or any feminine colors that are in the negative needs to be shot in the head. Dress like a man, take pride in what your gender can get away with that the others can't. Dark colors, pinstripes, t-shirts and jeans, suits, less-than-recognizable hats, leather jackets, even wax cotton jackets(IE: Barbour International), slacks with blazers and whichever undershirt you prefer.
Individual style is individual style, only to a gut-wrenching tolerance.

| If the Polo shirts are out, what the heck are we supposed to wear? Posted: 5/31/2008 5:49:20 PM | So.. what you are saying is the color determines whether you are a man or not? You know when I was much younger 15 years ago I would say that a guy wearing pink, purple, light blue was obviously gay. The problem is, honestly, I was ignorant and probably not secure with my sexuality. Afraid of what someone might think of me even if I just accepted someone else wearing it. So, instead guys like that say man that color is ugly, or that person is gay.
As far as I'm concerned, it takes a man to wear something as strong as a color like that. If you think otherwise that is perfectly fine. I'm not saying the colors you like are bad, but they are played out. They are also winter colors. Yes, they look professional and good, however, they are not summer colors.

I'm merely saying, the color, just like the food, is completely tasteless, unstylish, and connotes your passive behavior. Judging by everyone I knew who wore salmon, I'd say that's also a fairly true observation.
Also, salmon doesn't compliment many skin colors.

| If the Polo shirts are out, what the heck are we supposed to wear? Posted: 5/31/2008 7:37:38 PM | Polo's are not out. They are so versatile depending on what the occasion is and the material of the fabric is. You can find great athletic polos made out of polyester and rayon from Nike, Under Armour and Adidas that are very stylish, light and of course comfortable that you can pair with a sleek khakis or black short for a sophisticated but casual look that can take you from the golf course to the club house. If you like a heavier rugby type polo, look at the younger stores like American Eagle outfitters, Eddie Bauer and Abercrombie and Fitch. They are mostly cotton and come in a variety of colors, with or with out graphics and have distressed looks for an edgier style. You can pair them with a plain cotton tee for a layered look or I have even seen 2 different colored polos layers on top of each other and the collars "popped" for a style variation. If you want "classic style" go with a designer brand. Ralph Lauren is the genius behind the polo. Dockers are also great. A good idea would be to seek out the stylist in the mens wear dept. Have him or her do most of the work for you. Believe me, they will tell you what looks good, run and grab the correct size and styles you need and suggest any other options with accessories and type of footwear. | |

Why are you afraid of salmon colored Polo's or other types of shirts? I am not afraid of any color or type of shirt. I said it was a preference thing. The OP could pick me up on a date in a salmon colored polo, kahki shorts and black socks for all I care.(Not that I may nt try to bring up a tip or two, but it would not change my opinion of him any) I just do not particularly like that color on guys. And he was asking what we thought. I personally like black polo shirts. My opinion differs from whoever told him polos were out, so does that mean the original person is afraid of polo shirts? No. They just do not happen to think they are as great as I do. And, I am not up on mens fashion. I'll admit it. I know what I like guys in, so, for me....I don't care if velour tracksuits are the fashion for men, I still will like a black polo shirt and a pair of jeans. And, I am ok with not being "up" on mens fashion, especilly since I am not a man.

| If the Polo shirts are out, what the heck are we supposed to wear? Posted: 6/1/2008 9:57:52 AM | "Style?" What's that??
Seriously, if a tshirt and jeans, or polo/golf shirt and khakis or dockers with crosstrainers or oxfords aren't appropriate, I generally don't need to be there.
To be sure, I have several nice suits, if I absolutely must attend a funeral, wedding, or stuffy business meeting. And I can look very distinguished in my 3-piece, grey, pinstripe, tropical weight wool "banker suit," but for a social setting I prefer to be comfortable.
If my socks match my shirt, so much the better.

| If the Polo shirts are out, what the heck are we supposed to wear? Posted: 6/1/2008 11:45:33 AM | it really depends on the type of designers you're into....
polos will always remain a casual classic like khakis....but even with classic conservative clothing (if you are), colors change even fabrics & cuts depending on the season...if you are mainstream trendy then you better start shopping quick :)
i've noticed in the last couple of years, even the conversative "classic" designers are getting more trendy as time goes by- quite interesting to watch. it's all affected by the pop/rock culture in glamourville hollywood!
i love following the trends.

| If the Polo shirts are out, what the heck are we supposed to wear? Posted: 6/1/2008 11:58:19 AM | just saw this reponse about the salmon color debate caught my interest.....i love the salmon color, it's great during the spring/summer. as for pink, i love it on guys but it doesn't fit well with all men....
my observation...i have seen some guys wear long sleeve button down pink shirts & it looks handsome......the ones that are wearing it typically have a sense of fashion & are at least somewhat trendy. i ususally find these guys to be in the metropolitan city areas or more economically sounds areas....just my thoughts...
