| If the Polo shirts are out, what the heck are we supposed to wear? Posted: 6/21/2008 3:39:34 PM | I'm with OP. I'm 46 and clueless what to buy for "date nights". I WISH I could just wear whatever I want, but you know lots of women will slam dunk you if you show up in shabby clothes. They complain about it on the forums all...the...time.
1. Polo shirts: Tucked or untucked? (assuming you don't have a belly)
2. Button-down shirts with a t-shirt under: How do you know there's a t-shirt there? Do you unbutton the shirt? Tucked or untucked? Is it OK to wear long sleeves this time of year, or only short?
3. Once you get past the coffee-meet, is blazer + khakis too much for a real date? What color blazer? Wool blazers kill in June heat. Any suggestions?
A lot of what people are suggesting here sounds like "business casual". As a recently escaped office drone, I know my bus/cas. I just threw away all those clothes! Irony can be so ironic, you know?

Button down with a t-shirt left unbuttoned, untucked. Long or short sleeves are exceptable. Loose fitting button down without a t-shirt buttoned, untucked. If you don't have an obscenely amount of chest hair leave the top button undone. Long sleeves with the sleeves folded up. Polos left untucked.
of course these are just my personal preferences of how I feel comfortable. I think the whole tucking of the shirt is too 'formal'. I don't think khakis are too much for any situation either. The blazer on the other hand...depends on where you are going. Dress for the occasion, if it's a fancy resturant, live theatre or something like that the blazer and a tucked shirt wouldn't be too much, otherwise it's possible it might be. (There's a fine line between comfort and style...but seriously, no sense sweating all over the place just to be stylish, I'd skip on the blazer if it's too hot)

Meh, not like I really care anyways. I'm not likely to run out and replace whatever I currently wear, just because some of you decide that things are either "in" or "out".

I work with some modern guys who are in their 20s- mid 30s who are into the jeans/ polo as well as T-shirt with a button down un-buttoned and open- both long and short-sleeve shirt. The look works as not dressy but not slouchy.
Again, it depends on where you are going that determines what you wear. In this town, you can pretty much wear jeans EVERYWHERE. Jeans, blazer, is another good classic.
