| Birth control at this age Posted: 6/1/2008 5:20:17 PM | | My tubes were cut, burnt and tied over 16 years ago a few days after I had my youngest son.One of the best things I have ever done. The last thing I would want to worry about is birth control now. | |
|
| Birth control at this age Posted: 6/7/2008 1:55:27 PM | | Am starting to think I need to find out all of what's involved in getting my tubes tied. Don't want to deal with all of that anymore. It was really a rotten thing to do to make women fertile through their 50's! Geesh! | |

| Birth control at this age Posted: 6/7/2008 4:02:27 PM | why not birth control????? condoms will do too.....or just dont do it..... | |

| Birth control at this age Posted: 6/7/2008 4:31:00 PM | | Lucky, lucky me. Went through menopause at 45 and don't have to worry about it anymore! | |

| Birth control at this age Posted: 6/7/2008 6:24:19 PM | | If you don't have a steady partner that you know is being monogamous, then certainly use condoms. They will also protect you from STDs. If STDs are not a concern - I didn't notice anyone mentioning the diaphragm. They are pretty effective, do not require surgery, and do not alter your hormones. I used one for awhile when I was younger and they really are not bad. You need to go to a doctor or clinic to get fitted. You *do* know that at this age your probability of getting pregnant has dropped dramatically, but you still should take measures if you don't want that to happen. | |

| Birth control at this age Posted: 6/12/2008 6:27:17 AM | Probably tied tubes!
The kind of guys who's responsible enough to have had a vasectomy usually already has the kind of partner who is man savvy enough to appreciate responsible guys. Or else he's the total player who was accused of fathering a child years ago, proved that the child wasn't his, and isn't going to ever put up with that bs again.

| Birth control at this age Posted: 6/30/2008 1:03:10 PM | I prefer Depo Provera - you get a shot every three months and you have no periods !
You still would need to use condoms for safe sex unless you are with a partner whom you trust and has been tested.

| Birth control at this age Posted: 6/30/2008 1:31:52 PM | I've had a hyst so birth control wouldn't be an issue if I was not abstinent, but I wouldn't engage in sexual relations without a condom... maybe a hazmat suit. | |
|
| Birth control at this age Posted: 6/30/2008 2:17:21 PM | harley is right on. really us guys should do more on that line. after all you are right when you say that those other methods are dangerous. abstinence is the best form of birth control and prevention, its 100% effective. but most of us are not going to get into that. i know i am not in a long term relationship. | |

| Birth control at this age Posted: 7/1/2008 8:04:27 AM | | An IUD worked fine for me for over 20 years LOL! No chemicals, no having to remember to take it, no forgetting where you put it! LOL! | |
|
| Birth control at this age Posted: 7/2/2008 10:13:23 AM | Early menopause in this case is a blessing....I don't have to worry about pregnancy anymore. But, condoms are a must due to the STD's out there. | |
|
| Birth control at this age Posted: 7/5/2008 10:02:47 AM | | I think any man who knows without a doubt he wants no more children would be smart to have a vasectomy. There are too many things to worry about these days without the added stress of someday someone calling you and telling you, you are going to be a daddy... | |

| Birth control at this age Posted: 7/5/2008 10:21:10 AM | I had silicon plugs injected into my fallopian tubes back in 1982. Never had any issue with them. The procedure was done on an outpatient basis. When I had it done, it was in the experimental process. I don't know why it's not being done today, I've not kept up on it. Then, I found out in 1982 that my uterus was divided in half, so if I could get pregnant (chances were very slim), I could miscarry or have an etopic pregnancy.
At one time they had the birth control pill out for men in the 1980's. The experimental group, when the men smoked pot, their eyes would be very red. Those were the only "side effects" that stood out. My concern would be trusting a man to take that little pill. So, it's either get the tubes tied (if you're a woman) or get a vasectomy done (if you're a man).

| Birth control at this age Posted: 7/5/2008 12:32:07 PM | | I have the big "V" done in 1994, no more kids for me! I still am concerned with STDs, I'll become a monk before I would let that happen. | |
|
| Birth control at this age Posted: 7/6/2008 8:02:06 PM | | Unless you've found someone with whom you intend to form a monogamous, or "fluid monogamous" (poly term) relationship, condoms are the only thing I find acceptable. Barriers are the only thing that will protect you from STDs. | |

| Birth control at this age Posted: 7/7/2008 8:46:09 PM | | Condoms. Period. No exceptions. After two people believe they are in a long term monogomous relationship there are various foams, films, and sponges. The liklihood of a pregnancy after 45 is very low. And ladies, birth control pills of any strengh or type at this age is risky. I hade a stroke at age 44 due to birth control pills causing blod clots to the brain. Weigh the + and -. Choose whats best for you. | |

| Birth control at this age Posted: 7/8/2008 3:28:46 PM | 2 words . . . tubal ligation!!! it's easy - done on an out-patient basis - through the bellybutton - no scar and the recovery time is only a couple days. i would have had it done in my early 20s but the male establishment makes us wait until we're in our late thirties at least, not to mention the evil insurance companies - LOL. it's the best knowing that there is a 99% guarantee rate that you will not get pregnant. | |
|
| Birth control at this age Posted: 7/8/2008 3:48:48 PM | Gee OP - must be a slow day.
In my opinion, the best birth control is abstenance until you find the right person. However, if you must make whoppee try condoms. Even they are not 100% guaranteed but if the easy way is what you want, that is as good as it will get.
