Actually... the ancient romans and greeks were quite progressive... woman had more rights and more affairs than you think..... it was not uncommon for women to have "boytoys" of their own.... marriages were social and political unions.... they were not based on :"love" and infact marriage being about being "in love" is a relatively new twist.....
This is news to me. If you mean women in power had "boytoys" of their own, then I will believe you. But this was not a great number of women. It has been a man's world for centuries now.
.. who says it has to be a "special union" ... ??? again this is the "man made construct" and that all it is .... it does not exist in the real world.... if that is ascribe to great... but women need to stop holding men to a standard that may only exist in their own mind.... As many men do not ascribe to that same standard..... If men just want to have sex and not be n a relationship .... thats is their right... that DOES NOT MAKE THEM PIGS.... they just prefer a casual physical relationship to a commited one...
If a "special union" is not part of your real world, then you will associate with like minds and views on this topic, or you can pay for your sex. There is a sex trade industry that will supply it ... supply and demand ......... just watch out for STIs!
But you won't be convincing people like myself to partake, or that the view is religous based .... I was accused of being a religious rebel in my youth ... I do not follow any crowd .... I walk my own walk, so will not be following any lead into what I view as promiscuity. I, for one, will only consider a committed relationship free of any STIs.
I do consider sex with a partner to be special ..... much better than playing any sport ..... having sex with just any friend doesn't interest me .......
You yourself said that STIs become more numerous as the number of singles increases. Since the numbers of singles are increasing, these STI numbers will continue to increase as well.
... and last but not least ..... if you view sex so flippantly, since you don''t consider it a special union .... then perhaps you view your girlfriend that way as well ......... or friends, for that matter. Perhaps nobody is important to you.

Any woman watching the movie and enjoying needs to take a good look at herself. Question is for the women, would you let your kids watch it when they were old enough? | |

I got invited by a couple of ladies that have been "threatening" to make a sandwich out of me for a while now.... so I "had" to go...
Good popcorn and a comfy seat....
I used to watch the series every once in a while... but I've had a thang for Kim Cattrail since Porky's...
2 hours was a bit much...
I overheard one guy on the way out saying he was going to have a T shirt made that said "I survived Sex in the City". | |

Posted: 6/4/2008 8:51:00 PM | Just curious if anyone who posted actually read the newpaper article in which the show is based on or at least watch more then on episode. It isn't about fashion or rich men - its about friendship and helping each other through difficult times. The main characters did have sex - OMG how odd that adults do that! most of the sexual exchanges were not one night stands and I suppose that all that posted have only ever had sex or a sexual relationship with someone they were madly in love with - give me a break! The show was such a break through for women in that it was stated it is ok to not be with a man and its ok not to want to be married and it is FOR CERTAIN that you should find your own identity before you ever rely on a man for that. Imagine women being incouraged to find their passion and going for it and becoming successful. Who would have thought it?
As for the women going for rich men - Carrie (the main character b/c I know most of you that posted have no idea what your talking about) just happened to fall in love with a rich man but dated many that were not - yes many she was in her late 30's when she finally found the one Miranda was atop notch lawyer - what a slut eh? give me a break she married a blue collar guy who was my fav male character - Charlette was born rich had her own money...And well Samtha was self made and actually enjoyed having sex
IF this scares anyone ....that scares me.
Think about what you actually watch on TV and prove that Sex in the City ruined it for men? please
Oh and any true woman out there that has girlfriends do you not talk about sex? have you never laughed about a small this or that or a lack of kissing talents?

You can't sleep around (and live without consequences) as much as these women so you enjoy the fantasy that you can. Lighten up - it's just movie, and a very successful one, at that. I had an SO rent the series DVD/video for me on a weekend that we were apart because he knew I enjoyed it. It made no sense to him and he sure didn't want to watch it, but he knew how entertaining I thought it was. | |

My boyfriend offered to take me to it, (he was in the doghouse the night before) and while you're right it was packed with overdressed women and about 4 unhappy looking guys - my boyfriend got a lot of laughs out of it - and while he won't admit to liking it - he admitted it wasn't all that bad, and was pretty funny. It's not all about sex. It's about real everyday life in an upscale place and issues couples face but are not often spoken about on television. There's really only one promiscuous one... | |

Its not a bad movie but I just have a hard time understanding how someone could make a 2hr movie based on shoes or fashion labels, and I've been called metro by friends! lol Just my $0.02 | |
