Models in skin mags: what do you think of them?
Posted: 6/12/2008 4:32:03 PM

I came up with the question when I watched a show where a man actually met the woman he'd lusted for in his magazine. He did not want anything to do with her. Why?

Imagine for a moment that you lust over some actor... he always plays a certain kind of character. Then you meet him... and he's well him. He's not the person that you saw him as. Same thing.

..they are not real women. They are surgically enhanced and altered, the pics are airbrushed

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. I for one find the surgical enhancements and the photoshopping to be a turn off or just boring. That is not unusual as far as I know. Some Playboy images might as well be paintings or cartoons as the case may be. That said, there is much that isn't more than simple makeup and good photography.

cause men to have unrealistic expectations of their wives and girlfriends.

Either you are saying men are so dumb they don't know when images are extensively altered or that large numbers of women can't look great with well done makeup and good photography. Not exactly sure who should feel insulted here. Maybe both :)

One could also equally say that the men in movies, TV, magazines and other media give women unrealistic expectations of the men in their lives. Some women have a problem with men looking at boobie pictures and the like (or porn) because they feel men take it the same way they do. That since they create expectations in their lives from the media they feel men do as well. That may be true for some men, but I hardly think it the majority.

As far as having an opinion of the actual people behind the images... well there are people who do certain things for a living that I couldn't have in my life. A porn actress is one of those. Now a woman who just posed naked or something that just showed off the female form... I don't think that would bother me. Everyone has their own line.

I think Richard Jeni said that all porn movies should be titled "Woman I'll never meet doing things I'll never do"

Too easily answered Classified

It's not JUST skin models either. Regular guys think, rightly or wrongly, that all types of glamour girls are absoloute beeches with king sized attitude problems.

And the greatest turn off for the guys, isn't actually an ugly girl. It's an attitude problem.

Do some men look down on the porn star as immoral? If so, do those men view themselves as immoral for enjoying the porn?

Is she thought of as immoral DURING the porn? Hardly.
The type of women who goes into porn and being "Relationship material", you're going to have a lot more complaints there. You have to have to find someone who's pretty open minded and comfortable with the idea.

As for themselves, I guess it depends. I would think most would say no, except for those who consider it "sinful". That's not exactly my culture, and I don't understand that type of thinking.

The product is visual stimulation for sexual fantasy. Why would using that product involve consideration of what the model is like as a human being? I listen to music on the radio and I don't care to know what the musician does or even who they are beyond the sound I am hearing. I don't sit through movies and account the traits and morals of all the actors. I just watch the story. In porn you are watching people be sexual, because it provides a kind of sexual stimulation. Who the models are couldn't matter less. Just so you aren't looking at anyone being hurt, or anyone being exploited like underage models. If I stop to think about it, then I think there are probably all kinds of women making porn, just like there are a variety of other models and actors. It's all in good fun, and no harm done. Sex is supposed to be enjoyable.

To me its the whole attitude that comes with people who are models , strippers , porn star ....it makes them all seem so shallow , the needing of attention shows thier weakness..they all have one thing in common..over inflated egos.
I think most men would probably prefer the girl next door type over a skank that needs the limelight on her ,when it comes to trying to build a relationship .

My 2 cents from a female perspect (I just had to, lol)......they are not real women. They are surgically enhanced and altered, the pics are airbrushed and cause men to have unrealistic expectations of their wives and girlfriends. Men compare models in skin mags to their own wives and girfriends thus putting pressure on them to look like the skin mag bimbos. This chickie will always be herself. Period. I figure if a guy doesn't like it he needs to hit the road

1missblueeyes you've got to be kidding. I mean is there a woman over 18 that has their true hair color? How many women dye their hair for a "fake" color that isnt theirs, or gets botox injections, or gets liposuction. When does it end? Women's looks are all fake to a point.

I think its jealousy. Many women have no problem looking at hot guys in magazines or in movies but when guys do it these women are fake. lol; you can't have it both ways.

This is a great question. I do look down at porn stars. I think its a sleazy lifestyle. The U.S. has become very sleazy and they are almost looked up to by some.

I dont enjoy porn. I get off on the real thing. I never got how looking at a fake person on the tv is that incredibly hot. I dont buy porn videos or magazines; never have; never will.

Do I like looking at pretty girls? sure; do I love porn? no; I never wanted a women with a lot of hands on her and I think its kind of sick.

Personally, I think men lust after, but do not respect, the sex symbols that we see in magazines and movies.
In other words, we might want to go to bed with them, but they are not the one we want to go home to.
I suspect things are different for women but men can approach sex and relationship as two separate things.

On a slightly similar subject I got to have a look at the original Marilyn Monroe 'Red Velvet' 8x10 chromes, the ones that were made into the now famous calendar. The soles of her feet were black, she had veins all over the place and was a bit more chubby than you see in the very retouched image that appears in your mind.

So are the women in porn 'real'? well yes, they just happen to entertain in a way that most of us do behind closed doors.

As for looking down on them...well, I'm sure they could find a conventional job if they wanted but most don't because they want/need the money .....and since no-one has ever even asked me I can't imagine I would do it myself ;-)

No I don't see it as immoral. And I do not see myself as immoral for enjoying it.

Do women see themselves as being immoral for lusting over a hollywood hunk or rock star, country star, soap opera actor, etc?

Best of luck to everyone
