until the liverpool echo rang me yesturday monday 2/6/08.
due to a comp i won about two weeks ago, which is due to go to press tomorrow nights addition thats wednesday 4th june LOL
i have had a lap band in for eight years.
i have never told anyone that i have been eating healthily or dieting , but at the same time i dont tell everyone i have a lap band either.
WHY??
because its my choice to keep that private.Some people are aware, and if they ask i tell them . Its not easy dieting either way , and yes, i could liquidize a mars bar if i wanted too. so there ya go. it does take determination and believe me it wasnt an easy option for me.
so now your all askin "how much i have lost and was it worth it?"

its still a struggle and i deal with it every day. but check out what was a part of a competition winners story with another four ladies in the echo which is now turned into a whole page of me because of ferns story. and yes i'm ready for it. lol
fifteen minutes of fame only comes once.

Posted: 6/3/2008 12:59:08 AM | Yeah she did. Bet she made some money from magazines selling her dieting tips and will again selling her 'misery of the tabloids' story so it becomes a public matter if she's misleading people from her position of power.
Feel very sorry for people who cant exercise through bad health (Been there alot myself) but eat less and do more and you'll get thinner, no need to risk your life in surgery.

Posted: 6/3/2008 1:43:05 AM | As far i can see there is no shame in having a gastric band, if you have tried everything you can and it doesn't work then go for it, losing weight is losing weight and that can only be a good thing....
But if you have been a champion for the bigger woman and have stated publicly that you are happy and comfortable with your weight and then start rapidly losing that weight, and let it be stated by people (including your husband) that it is all down to healthy diet and exercise and not correct those statements is lying by ommission...
So IMO yes, Fern Britton is a liar | |

If she has said to people that to lose weight you need to eat healthily and exercise more, that is good advice. You can't slate the woman for giving good advice. Whether she is following her own is somewhat irrelevant. It has to be said though that she probably has been eating less and being more active anyway.
If she has chosen the gastic banding route, that is her choice, as is keeping quiet about it.
Can you imagine the furore if she told everybody what she'd had done at the time and said this is the way to lose weight?

This is a private matter, this should never have been leaked to the press and it is no one's business but Fern and who ever she feels like telling and nobody else's...
The issue about Ryvita? She was their 'poster girl' when happily fat so what's the difference now? Has she gone around saying 'I live on Ryvita's and nothing else'? No...
If anyone believes what they see in advertisements without question then more fool them.. She is a representative and nothing else..
I'd be looking to find out who leaked the story, if it's a friend then they would be no more and if it is a professional then its see you in court . ... | |

As she said herself, she didnt hide the fact tht she had a gastric band fited, but neither did she call everyone and anyone to tell them, why should she.. | |

Posted: 6/3/2008 3:56:58 AM | Who really cares, Ryvita maybe, but lets face it they may have planted a seed in her head in the first place, she was also said to be devastated when the press posted pictures of her in a bikini on a family holiday, we've all had not so flattering pics taken but ours didn't get splashed all over the daily rags. What privacy did she have there?? I would have stuck two fingers up & divulged nothing either!
Its not like she's brought out yet another 'YES YOU too can get a body like mine' dvd is it!?? | |

When I used to watch the Ryvita adverts, I thought she was just advertising them as snacks, in a fun way, not that she was saying look at me, I've got thin on them...
So big deal the woman got help to lose weight, is it any worse than taking slimming pills, or those slimming drinks, or any other slimming products...........after all, it's not like she had to live on Ryvita and claimed all her weight loss was because she never eat anything else...
Just how much of peoples private lives do we really need to know about ...............everyone deserves and is entitled to a private life, hence the word "private"..... | |

I am waiting to be given the go ahead for surgery as i have struggled with food all my life and now am at a point where food appears to be my only friend! Not only this but both my boys have adhd and i have little support and an ex who no longer sees them at all. Im relying on surgery as a way to get my life back,i know it wont be easy, nor is it an easy thing to contemplate,but this is something that i need to have done in order to live(and i have been down all other routes)
I owe it to my sons to at least try and sort myself out in order to be around for them growing up-they need me, and i only carry on for them!
Fern probably felt this to be one of a few last options and even thou i think her face is getting a little gaunt,she looks fabulous. So what if she hasnt been completely honest,its her life and people will always judge no matter what, as some feel they are justified in doing so. | |

Posted: 6/5/2008 10:59:53 AM | What annoys me with people like Ms Britton is that she proclaimed how happy she was with her figure and that she loved her curves... She also did that cycle thing and claimed that was what made her initially start to lose weight.
personally when i found out that shed had a band fitted i was gutted i thought like a lot of people that she had done it by sensible eating and exercise, i have my own weight issues and have at least 6 stone to lose, but unlike ms britton ill be doing it by pure determination and motivation, im at the heaviest ive ever been and i can really tell now, ive always been happy with my curves and its not stopped me living my life, im sure a lot of people prefer it if big people would stay indoors, im not one of them, and dont cow tow to media pressure saying we all should be like sticks, im losing weight for me no one else.
if everything goes to plan this time next year ill be a new me, lol, but i wont be a size zero | |

Im relying on surgery as a way to get my life back,i know it wont be easy, nor is it an easy thing to contemplate,but this is something that i need to have done in order to live(and i have been down all other routes)

I hope all goes well for you, and that you and your boys have a great life, you deserve it! 
OT: so what if Fern loses her contract with Ryvita, didnt Kate Moss lose many and look where she is today!
Folk thrive on gossip, and thats all this is, is gossip, Fern had a band fitted, well bite my budgie cos its no skin off my nose what she did, and it shouldnt be to others either!
Fair dues to the woman, she did what she had to do to make her happy!!! | |

i can assure you doubters its not, nor is the band the answer, it doesnt teach you about what to eat or eating, its the physical act of doing so thats restricted.
but i could stilll melt a mars bar if i wanted one, i make the same choices as a dieter, i choose not to melt a mars bar.
its feckin hard goin, believe you me.

Hey, having a lap band in doesnt mean you have the answer you still have to watch what you eat. it still takes determination and alot of hard work to get there, so dont assume ms britton has had an easy time of it, neither have i. and it does cheese me off when people make out its the easy option for overweight people
With every respect, of course it is the easier option!! You can only eat tiny amounts and then don't need willpower!!!
I would never be unkind to someone who has lost a lot of weight through gastric surgery but i wouldnt compliment them on their weight loss either....
Real lifestyle changes is the only sensible way to go ahead if you want to lose weight and be truly happy with it. | |

I'd be made up for them if they are happier & healthier, that's what's important ... & tell them they look great - but I agree, I wouldn't compliment them achieving weight loss ... same as I wouldn't say "Mum, I'm so proud of you you've had electrolisis & now don't have a hairy chin".  | |

Posted: 6/6/2008 4:21:17 AM | Well the Rivita ad aims towards healthy eating. She continued to allow this advert to run, whilst she's been losing weight. She didn't come forward and say, I don't think I should be in this advert anymore. She only told the truth when it was threatened to make it public about her operation.
So yes I think she's a fibber to an extent.
She does look good now, but I won't say well done cus she didn't do any of the hard work that a lot of people put in to keeping slim.
It's like slimming tablets. How can anyone be proud of losing weight or expect people to be proud of them, for popping a pill to lose weight.
