| | Depression, failed relationships and suicide?Page 2 of 2 (1, 2) | Wow Fox, relax... it's figure of speach, nothing more, nothing less. It was not meant to offend, merely to point out how ridiculous *I* saw that post.
I also fail to see where I called anyone names?
Some people are just far too serious!
Anyways, moving on... | |

| Depression, failed relationships and suicide? Posted: 6/4/2008 8:33:57 PM | It's a serious subject and you brought it up, asking for people's input, then you insulted one of them that introduced a different way of looking at the subject. Unconventional, yes, but still an opinion. Even though you say your 'crack ' comment wasn't meant to offend I can't really see how it could be interpreted any other way. The comment is designed to discount the poster's opinion as being influenced by drugs, thereby attributing it to an altered sense of reality, not a sane, considered opinion.
As for the subject at hand, it illustrates the importance of mental health education. If we were all able to be clear on where to go for help (GP's are not necessarily the best primary resource for mental health issues) and if the stigma of mental health problems weren't so prevalent then these sorts of tragedies could be averted. The case of the man killing his family appears to be as a result of a severe psychotic episode whereas the ex-boyfriend killing his beloved and himself is more motivated by an inability to move on after the end of a relationship. Unfortunately we won't ever be able to understand these incidents fully as the only people who could shed light on them are dead. But what we can learn is that regardless of income, social status, race, religion or any of the other myriad of ways that we categorize ourselves we are all potential victims of mental health issues. | |
