Nope.
Both Hillary and Bill would be millstones around his neck.
If they'd been cool prior to her losing...I'd say maybe.

Now...I'd give them "adviser" posts...and then only sparingly seek their counsel.

I am doubtful of the contention that the delegation can "force" ANY candidate on a presidential nominee. In fact, I don't think it can. It is my belief and understanding that it votes for the presidential nominee's preferred candidate -- unless he fails to designate one -- in which case it designates one who it believes would best help "balance the ticket" (i.e., help ensure a victory by shoring up one of the presidential nominee's voter weaknesses). I've been able to identify no historical instance where the delegation compelled the selection of a particular candidate; and I seriously doubt it would dare to try to do so here.

I do not believe that Obama should select Hillary as his VP -- aside from the fact that she'd probably have him assassinated -- because she embodies what his campaign mantra has been all about trying to eradicate, with its theme of "change." He has indicated his vision is to get away from the old-guard, "knowing how to play the game better than anybody as a back room dealmaker" way of approaching issues, to a radically-different, "let's stop playing games and be more transparent and vocal to the American citizenry" way of approaching issues. Additionally, I believe it is his message of "let's try it a different, less-partisan way" which has piqued the interest of many traditionally Republican and Independent voters. And the selection of party bastion Clinton would cost him those voters who will likely play a key role in turning some traditionally "red" states, "blue" in November.

Nope. I see an Obama/Napolitano ticket as much more likely pairing. She's tough, smart, competent, effective as a manager, revered and respected on both sides of the aisle, and could very well assist with the delivery of at least one "red" state.

He should only pick her if he wants to lose and I don't think he does. She is so shameless it's awe inspiring. As horrible as Bush and Cheney and Rove are, HRC is also in their league and you have to wonder what's wrong with her supporters as much as you have to wonder about Bush's.

I'm an Obama supporter. Even though, I'm Canadian and can't vote in the US election, I'm hooked, following the US Presidential campaign. Although my opinion means nothing, I hope he doesn't pick Hilary as a running mate. Even though, she's a woman, she's not someone I would want to emulate. She's been expoounded by the press etc. as someone who is tenacious. I, on the other hand see her as a "ball-breaker" She's the kind of woman that wants everything her way without compromise. And, when she doesn't get her way she stomps her feet and whines about it. This behaviour only shows me that she's not a team player.
His mandate is about "change" and I hope this means getting rid of the "Clintons" and not succumbing to a few radicals who think she should be chosen, as his running mate.
I don't think she knows how to be a mate, either personally or politically.
All joking aside??? She'd probably have him shot, in order to be # ONE.

Your attitude has changed since last night?

You would not vote for Obama if he has her on the Ticket?

Would you vote for McCain?

I'm not an Obama supporter...but, now...the Media is saying that if Obama doesn't choose her... he'll be ahurtin' to get the votes needed to win Presidency.
I'm curious what the Obama and Clinton supporters feel on this issue. Good thread!

Obama is driving away two big constituencies away in droves, working class voters and white female voters. Even the Obama camp knows he can't win without these two big blocks of voters.
Obama NEEDS Hillary. He can't win this election on his own.
Why not support the candidate who can, Hillary Clinton?

But there is talk that Obama will tentatively offer, or make some kind of gesture in that direction of the VP slot to Hillary, but ONLY, ONLY on the understanding that she promise in advance (through intermediaries if not directly) NOT to accept! "She doesn't want it and would not take it," said one source very close to her. "But she would like to be asked and that is the Kabuki theater we are about to engage in." (Clinton spokesman Howard Wolfson called the notion "silly," adding: "She has already said she would whatever she could to help the Democrats take the White House back.")

The Clinton forces also have another wish: whomever Obama ends up choosing, he NOT pick another woman, even after the kabuki ends. "Hillary's supporters, and Hillary herself, can't stand the idea that he would pick another woman," said another source who is personally close to the Clintons. Now that is what they call chutzpah!
And why does Hillary care so much about the idea that Obama not pick another woman? Perhaps because Hillary has spent the last several months turning herself into the tribune of millions of working women. She deserves a lot of credit and respect for doing so. She is still their candidate, and she doesn't want to cede that to another Democrat of the same gender.

Sounds like something Hillary would want. I highly doubt that she wants to be the VP, nor does Obama want her there. The job would be too stressful for her anyway because she'd have to spend half her time keeping Bill's shenanigans out of the spotlight. There's only so many hours in the day. At least if she were pesident she could keep him locked up in the basement, but I don't think the VP has that authority.

It is a big conundrum!

People like myself would possibly change their support away from Obama if Hillary was on the ticket. I have Clinton Fatigue so bad....the last thing I want to see on the news is Bill making some dumb ass statements. If it was just Hillary then I would say ok...but Bill?
Enough already!

First of all I believed that he had a good chance of winning the nomination from when Oprah
endorsed him. Seems everything Oprah touches turns to gold!! Then when Ted Kennedy came out strong in his support I knew Obama was on his way!! As for VP? Yes Hillary would be a good choice given that she can really hustle votes!! Obama could give Bill a position as a foreign diplomat keeping him on the other side of the world and out of Washington. This would suit Bill fine he can chase women to his heart's content away from the eyes of America!!

Even after Obama wins the nomination his zealots can't stop with the juvenile antics...If Obama is anything like his supporters, I certainly hope he gets defeated in the General...Hillary should not accept any position that Obama offers if any...why should she help him get elected when he and his supporters have done nothing but say derogatory things about her and her husband...

No way in HELL should he pick Clinton as a running mate. I've said it before that although Obama has taken the high road on all of her "typical political tactics", she's the LAST person that should be on the ticket.

Was Clinton's behavior (her speech) a slap in the face to Obama as some have seen it to be ? Has she done more harm than good by not throwing in the towel ? Doers she REALLY think she can force Obama into picking her as Vee Pee ?

Again, my pick would be Janet Napolitano of Arizona, but I saw someone mention Joe Biden. The irony there is that rediculously patronizing statement hemade about Obama back when the campaigning started. That aside, he may be a viable choice.

Pick the opponent that was siding up with the republicans against Him during the democratic runoff....but has a huge following?

Ill be honest, in some way im happy Obama got the nomination. I've been having this reoccuring dream/nightmare about the white house being occupied by a Bush or a Clinton for 44 years strait (Bush senior, Bill Clinton, Bush, Hillary, Jeb Bush, Clesea Clinton)

With apologies to "The Ode to Billy Joe"

BARACK H. OBAMA IS THE DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE

It was the Third of June, the final day of a long campaign
Bill and Chelsea were out stompin while the faithful were still hoping to drink champaign
And as the polls in Montana finally closed and the race was nearly complete
Terry McAullife hollered to the crowd "y'all better brace for a sad defeat"
And then he said with a sigh and a surrender to inevitability
"Looks like Barack H. Obama is now the Democratic Nominee"

And then Harold Ickes interjected "C'mon, it's too early to write the epitaph"
"Old Hillary's a scrappy fighter and we're still working to redo the math"
There's still a chance with a prayer that by August we may even find
A number of the Illinois senator's supporters have changed their mind
But Governor Rendell shook his head despite his sympathy
As he echoed "Barack H. Obama is now the Democratic Nominee"

And the moment came for Hillary to speak up and face reality
While all the nation waited for her to concede the loss with dignity
But to everyone's surprise, her speech was utterly devoid of any deep despair
And when she was done, she made it clear her future plans were still up in the air
And though she commended her democratic rival for a race he ran most expertly
She'd not agree that Barack Obama was now the Democratic Nominee

But the writing was on the wall long before that fateful night
Even Bill had said that morning "There's no point in continuing the fight"
"But though it's true we lost the prize, there's no cause for us to weep"
"We have to focus now on making Hillary Rodham Clinton the nation's Veep"
"After all, 'if you can't beat em, join em' makes perfect sense to me
Now that Barack H. Obama is the Democratic Nominee.

All the liberals and conservatives are bracing for a new campaign
Now that the final choice has come down to Obama or McCain
And as Hillary is left in the lurch to sing her political swan song
While neary 18 million followers wonder just what went wrong
But looking back 16 months, it's hard to imagine how it came to be
That Barack H. Obama is the Democratic Nominee

INSOLENT dude ...

I haven't really been paying very much attention to this whole "election" -thing. So could you just cue me in and tell me some of these derogatory things he has said about her and her husband?

I think she could help him win in November- though there are downsides to her presence on the ticket as well- she has a large disapproval rating, she voted for the war, she's polarizing and will fire up the despondent Reps to come out and vote, she clearly doesn't fit the mantle of 'change', and it will look like he picked her because he was backed into a corner- but Hill and Bill would make O's life hell for the next 4-8 years. I don't see that it would be worth it in the end.

Her actions during the campaign were so ego-centric (note that Obama says 'we', while she says 'I') and became increasingly vulgar- mentioning 'hard-working white people' and Bobby Kennedy's assasination for god's sakes- not to mention Bill's own rather revolting comments (and his own 'me, me, me' attitude) that I can no longer tolerate the idea of her on the ticket in any capacity, and I'm feminist as all get-out.

Her die-hard female supporters will be unhappy, but I do not believe that once the smoke clears they will vote for hawkish, anti-choice old white guy McCain, nor will they stay home, regardless of the threats currently circulating.

I would love to see him pick Vilsack (from my home state), Biden, Dodd, Kathleen Sebelius is a possibility (that could help with women), even Edwards (from my adopted home state). There are a lot of good choices.

It would be nice to see a woman on the ticket but if it's not HRC, her voters would kill everyone on the internet before they go into seizures.

Obama would not want Hillary on the tickets unless he wants to lose the election. Hillary Clinton is so poralizing that GOP base would actually come out and vote out Clinton more than Obama out of power. Gotta understand, IF Hillary is VP McCain wins anybody knows the Clinton have made people disappear in the past. Obama and McCain will pist off thier certian core groups this will be 2000 election all over again.
