Posted: 7/6/2008 6:44:00 PM | Yes, athletic men in GENERAL want someone that's fit......i.e.....perhaps a toned body or just thin. If you are into athletic men, then you'd probably have to lose that weight. But then there are athletic muscular men who are into overweight women. So you never know.

MOST of the other guys at my gym, don't want anything to do with the women there.
Most of us like feminine women and the women at our gym have the same fitness goals as us. Mass. Mass is and extreme definition in a woman is NOT sexy to most of us.
Personally I tend to like a woman that has just a few extra pounds. Shows they're not obsessed with their looks which is ALMOST as big of a turn off as a woman have no self esteem is.
The guys I mountain bike with however tend to want women that can ride with em, and the type of riding we do ain't easy, so they like a woman in great shape, that doesn't mind getting muddy or hurt. | |

I am average and I don't like athletic men. I find that we have little in common. While I really like the outdoors and doing things like trekking and camping, and lots of travel - most of the 'athletic' men are gym junkies and quite dull in personality and lack intelligence as well. Their time is divided between work, sleep and exercise - so they don't have anything to talk about. That's a big .
And an athletic body definately does not make up for an ugly face or personality.
Wow, talk about a complete generalization...
I work out everyday, I hit the gym a minimum of three times a week and sometimes I go 5-6 times a week. I have a 3.89 collegiate GPA, read science fiction and fantasy books, work on computers, am really into tuning cars, and I'm now trying to teach myself how to play electric guitar.
Fitness is a lifestyle, not everyone who values physical fitness is a dumb meat head. One of my role models is a guy named bob. Bob is in his sixties, I meet him on a local basketball court at the beach, Bob was showing up most of the guys half his age. Later on I met Bob at my gym, turns out that he lifts weights once a day on top of playing basketball or running. After conversing with Bob on multiple occasions I learned that he owns multiple businesses, has patents for his own inventions, and is financially secure enough that he no longer has to work. Bob also looks like he is in his late thirties.
I brought Bob up because he is an excellent example of an athletic man who works out on a daily basis but is also highly intelligent and very successful.
I agree that are some people who do not have a life outside of lifting weights, running, or engaging in their chosen activity; but to group everyone who has a personal commitment to physical fitness and good health into this category is not only incorrect, but also incredibly ignorant.

Since I was 16, I've been curvaceous, never atheletic (thin back then, now a bit overweight in my 30s). I've almost always dated athletic guys...in fact can't think of any of the top of my head who weren't...
I don't think it's a contradiction that they are attracted to me even though I'm not athletic...I like his toned bod, he likes my curvy one, we're both happy :)
One guy was a real sports fanatic (endless team practice, weekend games, volunteer coaching, tv games and series etc), which was a bit of a problem...it seems to have worked out better with those who just go for a jog to keep fit. | |

There are two kinds of athletic. There's guys like me that are cosmetic athletic, then there are the real athletes. I work out for cosmetic reasons and health is secondary. Any men pumping iron unless they compete that's the case. I think non-steroid muscles are attractive on men. Steroid muscles BTW in case you don't know are the ones where men look like the HULK?
I think real athletic men prefer athletic women. I mean if they bike, play tennis etc. alot they probably prefer women of the same Ilk. I do those things occasionally and stay in shape enough so I can when I need to.
Cosmetic athletes like me however, prefer women soft like women should be, not hard like us. I think women bodybuilders (most are on roids) are freaks and would NEVER date any of them. I think men that do are closet gays and want to actually date a man but with a vagina.
Being soft however doesn't mean you can be fat. It just means you don't have to be toned. Stay within a HWP size and you'll find men will think you're fine. | |

I got a friend who is close to 30% bodyfat, is about 6 feet, 230lbs, he is "athletic" in that he 's active in recreational soccer and floor hockey, goes to the gym, does cardio, but he is "fat". No way you can hide that girth in the mid-section lol. But on a dating profile he would put athletic or fit (he is a terrible example to use for promoting people to be active to lose weight!)
Now I imagine a gal meeting him would be disappointed in person to see that he's a chubby thick guy. But at the same time, he is "Athletic" based on his activity level. Logic would state he puts "extra pounds" but he wouldn't.
Its a catch 20-20... | |

I have always been somewhat overweight but i am an outdoorsy person and am energetic. Its actually been pretty hard to find a guy who can keep up with me lol and ive dated thin guys and semi overweight guys. I like guys with a little weight on them but have a healthy lifestyle as well that at least matches mine. I dont go for the gym rats but i would like a guy who was like me in the fact that hes working on bettering his health and such. It goes both ways though and everyones preferences vary so i wouldnt shy away from a guy i was into because of fear he wouldnt like how i looked.. if he didnt so what find another lol. | |

Posted: 7/7/2008 4:59:27 PM | never say never, but personally i am attracted to women that lead a similar lifestyle to my self, which would mean staying healthy and active. I believe (and lets not have a conversation about this) that some one's physical condition is 80% mental and 20% physical. Sure some people are born to be a little bit bigger and their bodies naturally absorb and store more fat, but there are plenty of people out there with plus size parents who them selves are living healthy fit lives. Food choices and activity level can have a huge effect on the way you look and feel.
I believe that one should only judge potential partners on the attributes which they can control, ie: women shouldn't write off a guy if he is balding, its genes and there is little to nothing that can be done, men shouldn't ignore a woman who is taller as again this is just genes. But if the guy is fat and the girl has yellow teeth then by all means pass them up for someone who takes better care of themselves. | |

It's funny how the average person in North America watches 4 to 6 hours daily. More likely a person that doesn't work out that much probably watches tv. Wow tv is so exciting. I rather do something that is constructive with my time then just watching tv. An hour a day working out is not that much really. Exercise actually helps oxgyen get to the brain which means better thinking. Arnold Schwarzenegger for example has a business degree.
I myself will date non athletic person but I am going to sit and watch tv all night with her or go to the bar and drink my money away. I prefer to do something more enjoyable. Obviously some people never went on a nice long bike ride or a good hike. | |

Posted: 7/7/2008 8:53:29 PM | I am a borderline athletic guy. I work out a lot, eat right, but am not exactly ripped. I put any fat on right at the gut, so I have to be really in shape to not have a little gut. Just where I put the weight on. 6'4" / 230# , if you need numbers to get an idea.
I'm not a fan of large women. If you have a couple extra pounds, but eat right, and take care of yourself, but tend to just be stuck 10-15 pounds over where you want to be, like I am, that's OK. If you are obese, (and lets face it, about half the "BBW" here are obese) I'm not going to be interested. I saw my ex wife go from 6'/155# to 310#. Just seeing what all that weight does to ones health, and the general not caring enough about yourself to keep your weight in a healthy range is something I choose not to deal with.
I'm not a health nazi, but I take care of myself. I work out, but the gym is not my life. I expect something in the ballpark from any potential girlfriends. I don't expect a fitness instructor or supermodel, (although I am not opposed  ), but I don't want to date Jabba the Hutt's sister either. | |

Posted: 7/7/2008 9:37:15 PM | I'm of the mindset that a sculpted physique is inherently male (thus, that is what I work incredibly hard to achieve), and that women who are soft, curvy and beautiful (emphasis) are the epitome of femaleness. I love the big girls. I truly do. Gotta qualify that, though, and ladies I'm just being as honest as I can be:
Obesity, in the female pattern, is very attractive to me - large hips, shapely legs, and ahem, a beautiful big butt - oh yeah - in fact a woman can be very, very overweight, but if it is in this pattern it's an incredible turn on.
Conversely, obesity, in the male pattern ie: thick neck, large midsection, flat butt and skinny legs does absolutely nothing for me, and there are women who fit in this pattern.
So what I'm saying is, all bbws are not created equal, and it has nothing to do with numbers on a scale | |

I've known many "athletic" girls with huge ego issues, and quite a few girls who aren't Barbie that were extremely sweet and very sexy. I would never state what size of woman I'd be looking for; that would be extremely limiting, and I would have missed out on someone wonderful just because I was being superficial. and for the record,I'm "curvy" and I do some walking and yoga and belly dancing and whatever else tickles my fancy. I can certainly admire a nice hard body,but I would probably rather have an average body type guy who would rather work out his mind with me rather than go to the gym together.
but although I've never even contacted anyone on pof until today(and he doesn't even have a picture),I have wondered if an athletic guy would even think about such a cuddly slice of womanhood. | |

To be honest, I think quite a few men realize "genetics" or after having kids, etc, play a big role against the ladies-- as we age gracefully! However, I know someone special who believes some extra weight is not an issue if the woman is eating healthy and takes care of herself. I do think there is a difference between being curvey, pleasantly plump to being obese. I can't speak for those profoundly overweight. To be real, however, I have read profiles seeking heavy ladies and one specifically REQUIRED 400LB. In his photo, he appeared to be sharp looking and fit. I personally know a gent who thinks I am too small-- he likes tall, heavy set ladies...but they must be confident enough to sport heels and a skirt too. And let me tell ya, he's a hunk!!! They are out there. Question is, what do you prefer in a man???? A lot of men suggested preference to athletic builds because they want a partner for exercise, common interests. NOthing wrong with that. | |

Once upon a time ago, I was "Barbie"-- men everywhere..but for all the WRONG REASONS. Never felt as though any of them were into ME. Over the yrs, the Barbie-build faded and I put on a few extra pounds.... which I don't like... but let me tell ya, I am meeting men who are interested in ME. It's a nice feeling, too. For the most part, I am told my curves are in all the right places, so I still feel a bit lucky-- as I am aging gracefully!! | |

However, I've personally dated several guys were skinny, slim and athletic ... including an amateur bodybuilder and one amateur MMA fighter. I only dated them once I'd gotten over my own Mut and Jeff body image issues, but I also never approached them. I pretty much feel that if a guy has such a different lifestyle and/or body, then he probably isn't going to be interested and if he is then he'll let me know. to scale the barbie dolls neck would be 14 inches long ...and she would be well over 7 ft tall ...and really long feet also...the guys at Mattel were not very realistic designers
me dated a really slim girl when i was young .....she was a looker...but...she had this bone stuck out just above the nookie ...didnt pay much attention when pounding the kitty but the next day I thought my legs would fall off ....can you say pain!!!!.....now i wouldnt and didnt hold it against her and we had some great sex ...it was always worth the pain ...but chubby gals are just more comphy ...one thing i will say and will run from if i see it ..a lot of the barby doll type girls think they are all that....some how better than other women and some of them think themselves better even than the guys they date ... i cant stand arrogance /stuck up attitude....show it to me and i will put you in your place | |
