Here's a brief rundown of the conclusions both bad AND good:
Iraq and al-Qa'ida: Too many to quote, so here's the rundown from page 71-72
- Yes, the SINGLE meeting between Atta and an iraqi intelligence officer in 2001 was not confirmed (read "not confirmed" not "most defenitely did not happen")
- Iraq supported terrorist groups other than al-Qa'ida
- Iraq gave safe haven to Zarqawi and other al-Qa'ida related terrorist members
- Iraq did have contacts with al-Qa'ida
- Iraq and al-Qa'ida's "partnership" could not be substantiated, and neither could the statements that Hussein was going to give WMD's to al-Qa'ida.
Direct quotes from here on about various WMDs:
Nuclear ambitions Conclusion: "Statements by the President, Vice President, Secretary of State, and National Security Advisor regarding a possible Iraqi nuclear weapons program were generally substantiated by intelligence community estimates, but did not convey the substantial disagreements that existed in the intelligence community" - Page 15
Biological Weapons Conclusion: "Statements in the major speeches analyzed, as well as additional statments, regarding Iraq's posession of biological agents, weapons, production capability, and use of mobile biological laboratories were substantiated by intelligence information" - Page 28
Chemical Weapons: "Statements in the major speeches analyzed, as well as additional statments, regarding Iraq's posession of chemical weapons were substantiated by intelligence information" - Page 37
Chemical Weapons (again): "Statements by teh President and Vice President prior to the 2002 National Intelligence Estimate regarding Iraq's chemical weapons production capabilities and activity did not reflect the intelligence communities uncertainties as to whether such production was ongoing" - Page 38
WMD's: "Statements by the President, Vice President, Secretary of State, and Secretary of Defense regarding Iraq's possesion of weapons of mass destruction were generally substantiated by intelligence information though many statements made regarding ongoing production prior to late 2002 reflected a higher level of certainty than the intelligence judgements themselves" - Pages 49-50
WMD's (again): "The Secretary of Defense's statement that Iraqi government operated underground WMD facilities that were not vulnerable to conventional airstrikes because they were underground and deeply buried was not substantiated by available intelligence information" - Page 50 (That's the SoD... It's to keep the oil underground, to keep it off the market. Supply and demand. Less oil available the more the big oil companies can charge and make more profit. Last thing they want is to flood the market with cheap oil.
You do realize that a grand total of 6% of the oil in the world is held by US companies right? The other 94% is held mainly by the nationalized oil fields of countries that aren't exactly our greatest friends.

Posted: 6/9/2008 10:28:05 PM | | In regards to this topic I would highly recommend reading Bob Woodwards' (he broke Watergate) trilogy of books on this topic-- 1) Bush At War (9-11, the begining of the War on Terror and the invasion of Afghanistan) 2)Plan of Attack(the events leading up to the invasion of Iraq) and the last one, State of Denial:Bush at War, Part Three(how the Bush administration mismanaged the war in Iraq after the invasion). These three books taken together answer lots of questions. Without giving too much away, Rumsfeld is given lots of blame. And Bush lied?? What a shock!!! Why not flood Iraq with cheap free porn and booze, that way people would be too busy to fight. Open a few Hooters there too. Would be cheaper then sending bombs and jet fighters. | |

Does getting a hummer even compare remotely to terrorism(yes by the Bush administrations own definition of terrorism they are guilty themselves).
That moronic view is about on par with why I laugh at "Christian" parents or people with "strong moral values" getting so ticked over the "hot coffee patch" for Grand Theft Auto....... FDR lied as an attempt to drum us into WWII (secretly helped the british, then taunted the germans until they fired on our ships) then claimed the germans were attacking our ships.

Congress had to fight with Bush to even provide the troops with armored vests because he didn't want to deny a single nickel to Halliburton, KBR, Schlumberger, Exxon, Royal Dutch Shell, and a few others; and they're STILL fighting over trying to get the troops reinforced vehicles for all those roadside bombs and whatnot! Posted: 6/12/2008 6:55:31 PM | Our Op has cherry picked statements from the Senate Record.Another poster showed statements that directly contradicted the OP's post.The US had no reliable Human intelligence in place in Iraq.All of the intelligence came from other countries and paid informants inside Iraq.Since the Church Committee hearings in the 1970s,the USA has relied more and more on Sattellite intelligence and paid contractors.Paid contractors tend to tell you what they think you want to know.Electronic intelligence is easy to misinterpret.
He could have lied,but you will never be able to prove that he knew he was telling a lie.I tend to wait and see what provable information comes out before I call people liars.I try to take a non-bias point of view until something is proven before I post a bunch of random information to prove my personal beliefs.
