| Senate proves Bush lied us into war. Posted: 6/9/2008 7:54:33 PM | You want to talk about "selective truth telling"? Try reading the actual full report and not cherry picking things. Yep, it's posted online at http://intelligence.senate.gov/080605/phase2a.pdf
Here's a brief rundown of the conclusions both bad AND good:
Iraq and al-Qa'ida: Too many to quote, so here's the rundown from page 71-72 - Yes, the SINGLE meeting between Atta and an iraqi intelligence officer in 2001 was not confirmed (read "not confirmed" not "most defenitely did not happen") - Iraq supported terrorist groups other than al-Qa'ida - Iraq gave safe haven to Zarqawi and other al-Qa'ida related terrorist members - Iraq did have contacts with al-Qa'ida - Iraq and al-Qa'ida's "partnership" could not be substantiated, and neither could the statements that Hussein was going to give WMD's to al-Qa'ida.
Direct quotes from here on about various WMDs:
Nuclear ambitions Conclusion: "Statements by the President, Vice President, Secretary of State, and National Security Advisor regarding a possible Iraqi nuclear weapons program were generally substantiated by intelligence community estimates, but did not convey the substantial disagreements that existed in the intelligence community" - Page 15
Biological Weapons Conclusion: "Statements in the major speeches analyzed, as well as additional statments, regarding Iraq's posession of biological agents, weapons, production capability, and use of mobile biological laboratories were substantiated by intelligence information" - Page 28
Chemical Weapons: "Statements in the major speeches analyzed, as well as additional statments, regarding Iraq's posession of chemical weapons were substantiated by intelligence information" - Page 37
Chemical Weapons (again): "Statements by teh President and Vice President prior to the 2002 National Intelligence Estimate regarding Iraq's chemical weapons production capabilities and activity did not reflect the intelligence communities uncertainties as to whether such production was ongoing" - Page 38
WMD's: "Statements by the President, Vice President, Secretary of State, and Secretary of Defense regarding Iraq's possesion of weapons of mass destruction were generally substantiated by intelligence information though many statements made regarding ongoing production prior to late 2002 reflected a higher level of certainty than the intelligence judgements themselves" - Pages 49-50
WMD's (again): "The Secretary of Defense's statement that Iraqi government operated underground WMD facilities that were not vulnerable to conventional airstrikes because they were underground and deeply buried was not substantiated by available intelligence information" - Page 50 (That's the SoD... Rumsfeld, not Bush)

It's to keep the oil underground, to keep it off the market. Supply and demand. Less oil available the more the big oil companies can charge and make more profit. Last thing they want is to flood the market with cheap oil.
You do realize that a grand total of 6% of the oil in the world is held by US companies right? The other 94% is held mainly by the nationalized oil fields of countries that aren't exactly our greatest friends.
http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives2/2008/05/020589.php
"With 94% of the world's oil supply locked up by foreign governments, most of which are hostile to the United States, the relatively puny American oil companies do not have access to enough crude oil to significantly affect the market and help bring prices down. Thus, Exxon Mobil, a small oil company, buys 90% of the crude oil that it refines for the U.S. market from the big players, i.e, mostly-hostile foreign governments. The price at the U.S. pump is rising because the price the big oil companies charge Exxon Mobil and the other small American companies for crude oil is going up."
So no, it isn't a grand evil scheme by OUR government to raise gas prices and make more money. It's the rest of the world finally waking up to the fact that we're very much dependent on them for oil, so they can take advantage of us.

| Senate proves Bush lied us into war. Posted: 6/9/2008 10:28:05 PM | | In regards to this topic I would highly recommend reading Bob Woodwards' (he broke Watergate) trilogy of books on this topic-- 1) Bush At War (9-11, the begining of the War on Terror and the invasion of Afghanistan) 2)Plan of Attack(the events leading up to the invasion of Iraq) and the last one, State of Denial:Bush at War, Part Three(how the Bush administration mismanaged the war in Iraq after the invasion). These three books taken together answer lots of questions. Without giving too much away, Rumsfeld is given lots of blame. And Bush lied?? What a shock!!! Presidents fibbing....the horror, the horror.... | |

Once they have a taste for fun they will push for a us democracy when they get some power and influence in iraq.

It is really a step up from sending more troops and 100 more years in Iraq, to qoute McCain. Why not flood Iraq with cheap free porn and booze, that way people would be too busy to fight. Open a few Hooters there too. Would be cheaper then sending bombs and jet fighters.

History should record the events and the results of this time period, if lies and deception are proved in a court of law history should show that anyone who knowingly participated in this deception was tried and sent to prison for life
So why is slick Willie not behind bars?
His lies and deception were proved in a court of law.

Simple, a bj is not taking a country to war based on lies where thousands of people are killed and millions are now living like refugees.
Didn't you're mother teach you the difference between a bj and an illegal war?

Does getting a hummer even compare remotely to terrorism(yes by the Bush administrations own definition of terrorism they are guilty themselves). That moronic view is about on par with why I laugh at "Christian" parents or people with "strong moral values" getting so ticked over the "hot coffee patch" for Grand Theft Auto....... It was fine for junior to play being a pimp, to beat hookers for money, to start a war with cops, but heaven forbid the little guy see something about a BJ.

| Senate proves Bush lied us into war. Posted: 6/10/2008 10:56:13 PM | you certainly put alot of faith in our government if you think bush is the only president who has ever lied to us: FDR lied as an attempt to drum us into WWII (secretly helped the british, then taunted the germans until they fired on our ships) then claimed the germans were attacking our ships. -of course he lucked out when the japs bombed pearl harbor.
instead of fighting, wouldn't it be easier to simply buy Iraq then corrupt it with mcdonalds, wal-marts, coca cola and dvds? send steve wynn over there to screw them out of it, demolish the whole country with a firey implosion, then put another mega monsterous gaudy resort there with dolphins, and hookers, escolators and firetrucks

Buy it with what? The price-tag on this fiasco has your nation leveraged to the hilt. If foreign debts were all called simultaneously it would be time for a national chapter 11. Along with leaders that remember they work for the public not the other way around, you'll need some financially responsible representatives aswell.

| Senate proves Bush lied us into war. Posted: 6/11/2008 12:41:45 AM | Approaching $15 Billion per month, last I heard, with vast majority of it going to the corporate friends of Bush & Cheney through no-bid or other "exclusive" contracts. Congress had to fight with Bush to even provide the troops with armored vests because he didn't want to deny a single nickel to Halliburton, KBR, Schlumberger, Exxon, Royal Dutch Shell, and a few others; and they're STILL fighting over trying to get the troops reinforced vehicles for all those roadside bombs and whatnot! WHAT A DISGRACE!!! | |

Ummm.... It really doesn't matter what is being lied about. Perjury is perjury. The judge will still administer the same punishment if the lies were about a hummer or terrorism. Hell build your case and take him to court.

| Senate proves Bush lied us into war. Posted: 6/12/2008 6:55:31 PM | Our Op has cherry picked statements from the Senate Record.Another poster showed statements that directly contradicted the OP's post. The US had no reliable Human intelligence in place in Iraq. All of the intelligence came from other countries and paid informants inside Iraq.Since the Church Committee hearings in the 1970s,the USA has relied more and more on Sattellite intelligence and paid contractors.Paid contractors tend to tell you what they think you want to know.Electronic intelligence is easy to misinterpret.
He could have lied, but you will never be able to prove that he knew he was telling a lie.I tend to wait and see what provable information comes out before I call people liars.I try to take a non-bias point of view until something is proven before I post a bunch of random information to prove my personal beliefs. Especially when the same source has info that contradicts my statements.

| Senate proves Bush lied us into war. Posted: 6/12/2008 10:59:33 PM | I can't believe this thread is still going...its full of liberal BS. Get a life...and stop shoving your garbage down other people throats...its a free country to choose..it is not up to you to pass judgment on anyone...we are all allowed to have an opinion and make our own choices. I bet no president has ever been completely, flawlessly, truthful in office...I can bet you haven't either. Take your own inventory and take a basket weaving class or something. PS slick willie said "he did not have sexual relations with that woman"....should we believe him??...Did it turn out that he was telling the truth now? What a puke of a leader he was. HE LIED and expected all of us to buy it...eye rolling inserted here...enough already! Issue for whom? NOT ME!!! | |

| Senate proves Bush lied us into war. Posted: 6/12/2008 11:18:13 PM | | ^^^I am about as far from being a liberal as you;however, I do not see it as BS and I think you are grosely misinformed. When other republicans, and libertarians harp against Bush, you know that it is no longer "LIBERAL BS" it becaomes and issue common good. | |

If a comparison about sex and a soiled blue sheath dress and a war started by outright lies in which thousands and thousands of people die and are maimed is appropriate in your mind, go for it.

I think you need to get your facts straight and realize we are all entitled to OUR opinions. I don't care if they aren't yours. A LIE IS A LIE BLUE DRESS OR NOT... Pack your bags people we are about to go on a liberal guilt trip..and don't forget your toothbrush.
