Ok have spoken with the houseboat people and I am waiting for a response, I have outlined the problem to them and asked that they present a solution that would enable this trip to go ahead and meet with the guidelines of fish admin

As far as food is concerned there are a number of ways to go as there are 3 eating places within easy walking distance ie no more than a few hundred metres in any direction, and there are also free lectric BBQ at the camp site.

I have been told that parks and marine queensland govt now charge a small fee if you want to stay and use cooking faclities, its a bout $2.00 per head ...so I think this solves the food issue....either bring your own and cook on the boat, use the island facilities or go to one of three cafe type places.

I understand timming issues, ie when yo leave, the only reason I suggested friday pm is because the hireboat weekend starts friday afternoon and finishes monday morning...so I was attempting to get as much bang for the buck as possible

So come on let me know your thoughts, this would be a great weekend.....

So is there anything else , Insurance , Fuel , etc.

Can we get a discount for 2 or 3 boats?

What would be the price for 24 hours Sat lunch to Sun lunch? just as an option.

Have we checked the tides , maybe we could drift while we are doing some fishing , or drinking , or both.

Also is there camping faciliteis at the camp ground , what if we camped as well , maybe an option for those who want a cheaper option. Whats the load limit on the boat , ie No of Adults , life jackets etc.

Maybe get one boat and use it for cooking and socializing and the rest of us can camp around the fire on the beach. Just a thought.

Is there a party pontoon available for hire maybe or something that caters for more bodys.

All just Ideas

Cheers

Pete

not sure about how many can go on one houseboat, it would certainly be possible to take more than it can sleep and have the rest camp
the price quoted is for aprox 40 people taking enough boats to sleep evryone
need to think more about it and get response back from the hire mob about how the money could be organised given the moderators comments

fuel is extra but the price quoted of 119 per head included 5 or 6 hours
tenders for each boat with an outboard attached and a full tank of fuel

It sounds like great fun Losenut... am afraid its just not something I can commit to, and I realise that's what you need.

The cost is a lot to wear if something comes up (as it has for a few of the informal gatherings that dont require specific numbers) so you might find that's what has people hesitating.

If you're in the position to hire a boat, why not set a date and shoot out a few invites via your inbox? That way you can maybe make some new friends too, and its a bit more personal. I got one the other day from a boat owner who is organising a trip in the next few weeks... it sounds like fun. I can pass your name onto him too, if you want?

Hey loosenut

I'm in, either way. Plenty of notice - so I will organise to have the weekend off. Just let me know what's doing.

Hi all..................

I would definately be in for this, with this much notice I would think anyone can arrange the weekend off if necessary. The cost is not that bad really when you consider what you are actually doing, going for a weekend cruise.

It would be extremely easy to pick anyone up after work on Friday evening and same thing Saturday morning. Return could be Sunday evening, or stay aboard until Monday morning.

These boats are only licensed to carry a certain amount of people, therefore I think the idea of carrying heaps of passengers to camp on a beach is a bit dodgy, especially with carrying all the camping gear etc ( extra weight )

Another idea of drifting with the tide to save petrol is a definate no go with me, you are looking at a 9 Ton boat drifting totally out of control ( engine switched off ) these are houseboats not yachts, I agree with using the tide to get somewhere ( its really slow going against the tide )

Is early days yet so................... don't erase the thread yet

I would love to be able to go but for me, don't feel I can commit because anything I tend to pre-book, pre-pay one of my teens will throw a spanner in the works - like break a leg, end up in A & E or something like that, it's happened before and I have been the organiser!! Don't have ex to fall back on, too far away so I will have to dip out on this on.

As you said, Ulyssian, this far ahead we should be able to at least pencil in!
Pete - Count me in - sounds like a good weekend! And a good price individually, for a whole weekend away. Don't forget to pack your woollens!

That may be an option , a damn good one , PM those who showed interest and see if you can get No's for one , hire it , then post the event and see if you get interest for two and a skipper , get them to hire it then so on. That should work , per the rules..................I just dont know what Im up to around then so cant commit til about mid July.

I do think the price is a bit of a deterant , $150 plus for the weekend + alcahol + extras , but that includes activities and transport costs for the weekend as well. If you add up everything from Tentafield , not including drinks , I spent over $250 including getting there , accomodation , food , extras etc. But what a bloody good weekend. Antibiotics , pain killers , flu tablets , cough medicine and drip fed Ouzo and coke all Sat nite , I was surprised I didnt pass out.......................

I think it should work well as an event and do hope I can come. If in mid July I can I will hire a boat and skipper it , providing your boat is full mate..................

Hi Losenut I would love to come along but I think it is the same week as the ekka, family tradition to go every year, so I do not think I can afford the boat trip
