| Use of Marijuana for medicinal purposes. What's your take on this? Posted: 11/7/2007 1:37:02 PM | I smoke pot fairly regularily. I think all drugs, from marijuana, to oxycocet, to herion should be completely legal and unregulated. I do not believe it is the role of the government to try and make us 'moral'; I do not believe prohibition ever works. What it does is create massive profits for illegal gangs like the hells angels, wastes billions of tax dollars (currently 25% of those incarcerated in our country are there for drugs), drives the price of drugs way, way up forcing addicts into a life of crime and makes it very difficult for those who need help to receive it. I believe drug addiction (not to marijuana, which is not physically addictive but to heroin and cocaine and other addictive drugs) is a serious problem and these drugs do have negative consequences on the lives of their users and the families involved, but I do not think that means we should have a monolothic central government attempt to use coercion to make us better people. I believe the answer to the social/medical problem of drug addiction is voluntarism; I endorse families, friends, churches and doctors as the solution, not the cudgel of brute force or the tyranny of incarceration.
So yes I like medical marijuana should be legal

Go for it. Just don't abuse it. It all depends on how you use it. I've personally tried it for medicinal purposes and for sure....it does not cure you...but it can actually help you sleep for 7 consecutive hours. Best way to use it is to actually eat it. Not smoke it. Has a longer lasting effect. Put the stuff in melted butter and do your favourite brownie recipe.

Posted: 11/9/2007 12:54:29 PM | I have Multiple Sclerosis & I smoke the marijuana, it helps with my constant muscle spasms in my back, especially when walking. I take 60-80mgs muscle relaxers(baclofen), & take percocets 2-3daily, which gives me gut rot. I would choose weed over pills anyday.besides, I dont like the "buzz" I get from pills would rather smoke a fatty to decrease my pain & increase my productivity."word"

| Use of Marijuana for medicinal purposes. What's your take on this? Posted: 11/10/2007 11:25:49 PM | there is nothing wrong with a joint or two to help with the aches and the pains. I would prefer to smoke a joint, at least that way I kno what would be in My system.most of these drugs the government feeds the sick end up pulled off the shelf oh this one has been found to do cause cancer that one causes something else. if the government has smart it would legalize pot for everyone. why not? then of course comes the taxes.ok ok settle down you pot heads and listen. if the government would step up and legalize it then you can be pretty sure there are no pot umm "additives" a gram would be just that. a full gram. ahhhh yes and with it being taxed, how long do you think canada would stay in the red? I figure even just a year will knock off some of that. ~steps off My soapbox~

It's also good for the side effects of chemotherapy and eases the nausea. As for what it does long-term use, you'd have to ask hippies from the 60's about that.

| Use of Marijuana for medicinal purposes. What's your take on this? Posted: 11/11/2007 6:39:35 PM | There have been a few times I wouldn't mind having a little bit around. I tend to have a lot of battles with insomnia, I've tried sleeping pills (no good), tried those herbal relaxtion tea's (nu-uh) But a couple puffs on a joint and I'm pretty much ready for bed.
However I never have any around, I know I have a somewhat addictive nature, so I will not lead myself inot temptation.

Hydroponically grown stuff with all the crystalizations on it sucks I dont care what anyone says about it. It gives me rapid heartbeat and paranoia followed by being lethargic. Try cess! It's plain old weed grown outdoors. It even looks better - its a dark colour of green (almost like dirt) and is full of stems and seeds and doesn't smell as strong... it actually looks like a plant! I find i dont get paranoid, the buzz is smooth and relaxing and i can still go about my day and function. i didnt like weed much until i discovered cess... yep, Jamaican marijuana users know best!

| Use of Marijuana for medicinal purposes. What's your take on this? Posted: 11/14/2007 8:53:50 PM | THC, the main active ingredient in marijuana, produces effects that potentially can be useful for treating a variety of medical conditions. It is the main ingredient in a pill that is currently used to treat nausea in cancer chemotherapy patients and to stimulate appetite in patients with wasting due to AIDS. Scientists are continuing to investigate other potential medical uses for cannabis.
Smoking marijuana is difficult to justify medically because the amount of THC in marijuana is not always consistent. It would be difficult-if not impossible-to come up with a safe and effective use of the drug because you could never be sure how much THC you were getting. Moreover, the negative effects of marijuana smoke on the lungs will offset the helpfulness of smoked marijuana for some patients.
Finally, little is known about the many chemicals besides THC that are in marijuana, or their possible negative impact on patients with medical conditions. . . . . .

| Use of Marijuana for medicinal purposes. What's your take on this? Posted: 11/16/2007 5:51:06 AM | | The potential for the legitimate medical use of marijuana is ususally overshadowed by the potential for misuse by the whiners and wankers that would use it for every minor ailment they could think of....basically the ones that would scam the system to get pot for recreational use. Those that seem to think it is their right to violate the law of this country and openly use it for recreational purposes also weighs heavily against legitimizing its use in the eyes of the powers that be. Its situation normal...The whiners and selfish ones spoil things for those that could actually benefit from it. I know it works for some serious medical conditions. I also know that people that think its their "right" to violate the law by using it recreationally are unthinking, self-absorbed whiners, totally taken in by these "its all about me" societal and political times. | |

| Use of Marijuana for medicinal purposes. What's your take on this? Posted: 11/18/2007 4:03:38 PM | I take MJ pills twice a day prescribed by my doctor here in Ottawa. I am in the process of getting my license to grow...I have a "green" thumb for pot. *GRIN* Go figure!!
I have Adhesive Arachnoiditis and Cauada Equina Syndrome. No, I am not supposed to be able to walk. I am not supposed to be able to do a lot of things. I do them because if I don't, I will spend the day crying and screaming from pain.
I take many medications for these conditions. These conditions cause chronic pain that causes burning, throbbing, stabbing, twisting, walking on glass and kitty litter kinds of pain that runs from my hips and down as well as the fact that you either become extremely overweight or extremely skinny with these conditions and medications. You would not know it to look at me or to see me but watch me when I get out of my vehicle, I take it slow and make sure I am steady on my feet. When I am tired my foot will drag a bit...but for the most part...I am happy. I refuse to let pain rule my life. I do whatever it takes.
MJ will ALWAYS be a daily part of my life. I don't get "high" I get pain relief and I actually get hungry. If I smoke or eat it...I get differing results as will everyone else. It's about time that people stood up and said..."Governmental and any other busybodies...GET THE HELL OUT OF MY PRIVATE LIFE."
At night, I take 3 little capsules of THC, have a snack *lol*, and put my head down so I can get 4-5 hours of straight sleep. Those 4-5 hours straight give me enough time to recharge and be able to function. The MJ also helps with the depression that can and DOES occur with chronic pain.
If I don't take the pills, I have difficulty with eating (I lost over 1/3 of my body weight), sleep, muscle spasms, extreme pain and sensitivity to any type of touch...meaning blankets, clothing and even my own children hugging me hurts so I'll take the pills, smoke as many joints as it takes, keep "baking" my goodies and my breads, "buttering" and "spicing up" my cheese toast, putting it in my portion of food from a shaker or whatever it takes to slow the pain down because chronic pain never really goes away...and LIVE life to the FULLEST.
I may have chronic pain...but I am still a person. You have the choices of respecting my choices and wishes in regards to how I deal with MY health or the door is that way. I have no time for people with closed minds, my sympathy oilcan ran out years ago. Let people do whatever lessens their pain and mind your own damn business.
Thanks for listening!!
*gets off her soapbox and says...end of rant!*
As Always, NPY
PS: I read in an earlier post on this thread about the drug Depo Medrol...PLEASE PLEASE go read up on this very dangerous drug that is STILL being used here today in Canada. They even use it on pregnant women for their EPIDURALS...this drug is so highly toxic to the spinal column and nervous system that it is BANNED in many civilized countries of the world. www.burtonreport.com is the website and you will find much information there and doing a web search will give you even more. Depo Medrol took a large part of my life...don't let it take you or yours...RUN, DON'T WALK to the nearest computer or library and READ!

| Use of Marijuana for medicinal purposes. What's your take on this? Posted: 11/18/2007 4:10:37 PM | | I saw an ad for some organization called C.A.L.M. that supported medical marijuana use, their slogan was "I smoke responsibly"... how do you smoke pot irresponsibly may i ask? Like do you get reckless and eat all the chips? Have a weed nap on the couch? People are so uptight about marijuana use! People scam the medical system for all sorts of drugs like prescription painkillers for example. It hasnt stopped the government from issuing those drugs as prescriptions. .. but this is a reason for them to not legalize pot? That form of breaking the law is nothing new and would happen anyway and it's no reason to not legalise it for medical use or otherwise IMO. | |

| Use of Marijuana for medicinal purposes. What's your take on this? Posted: 11/22/2007 11:35:53 AM | I believe it should be legalized for medical purposes. I've heard that it helps for a variety of pain and illnesses. I know that it helps AIDs patients with appetite, etc. I don't think possession of small amounts should be a criminal offense. The Liberal party were looking into de-criminalization of possessing small quantities until they got voted out.
You should be able to get a prescription if you need it and have it filled at a pharmacy like others meds. I think the reason you can't do this is that Big Pharma won't make any money off of it as it would be relatively easy and cheap to grow. If it was done this way, then there would be fewer illegal grow-ups etc. Some people who are legally allowed to grow it for their medical conditions, may not physically have the strength or energy to do it and yet if they buy it from someone else, they get charged. Not fair.
Are there places where people who have a doctor's order and are legally allowed to have it, can buy it? Does the government grow some for medical purposes that those that medically need it can buy it?

| Use of Marijuana for medicinal purposes. What's your take on this? Posted: 11/22/2007 1:51:28 PM | Here is my argument against the legalisation of pot.
First off, I'm not going to look down on those who smoke pot... that's counterproductive and besides, i was a user for many years. However, given the fact that prescribed drugs and pot both have their advantages and disadvantages (side affects), there should be no reason to allow the trafficking of marijuana. Those who prefer the use of canibas (rather than pharmacuticals) as a relief for their situation, should be allowed as permitted by law, presently.
On the other hand, I believe that misuse and exploitation will be rampant if canibas is permitted to be used ambiguously. For instance;
1 If the government approves the use of pot, what would the present pot growers do in the face of competition?
Keep in mind, drugs are notorious for turf wars. I realistically couldn't imagine the present day growers would willingly give up their operations. I could just imagine a grower threatening a local drug store to use their product.
2 How should a person (legally permitted to purchase prescribed canibas) be treated if they purchase through a "street vendor" as opposed to a pharmacist?
I bet that person would be harrassed (to say the least) by a street vendor if the user purchased through a pharmacist.
Unfortunately, pot growers can be likened to a Pit-Bull owner who trains their dog to fight. They ae vicious, mean and unrelenting.
So, in short, it is the "user's society" that has proved to be their own worse enemy.... that is a valid reason as to why pot is not legalised.

| Use of Marijuana for medicinal purposes. What's your take on this? Posted: 11/22/2007 4:09:48 PM | Well, my personal use of the stuff stopped eons ago, and unfortunately, the mere smell of it makes me gag nowadays. Kinda sad though, 'cause I think I'd much rather burn one, than take all these confounded pills for my RA. My doctor is also looking into legal permission for me, but that may take a while to come through; yet I'll probably give it the old college try when it does come through, lol. Anything has to be better than taking all these gut-rot pills, er, I mean medications every day. As much as I appreciate the extra mobility and pain relief they offer, holy Toledo, the side effects are crazy. Even the tylenol in Oxycocets is as, or more harmful to your liver and kidneys than the codeine can be addictive. The anti-inflammatories have to be taken with another pill, so they don't burn holes in my stomach lining, and they raise your blood pressure to boot. And don't even get me started about the Prednisone...It's a cruel trade-off, I think, as any and all of you in this situation know first-hand.
As for non-medicinal purposes, I bartended for 16 years, and I've got to say, I'd rather deal with a pothead than a drunk any day - in the bar, or even encountering them behind the wheel on the road (<not advocating either as acceptable).
And just to play devil's advocate here, anyone want to take a wild guess at what our national debt would be like if the government controlled it's sale in an LCBO/Beer Store kind of way? My bet is we'd have a surplus in the budget, especially if growing your own was as legislated and illegal as bootlegging is...
