Good example, I applaud China for doing that but i would take capitalism any day, lol. Unfortunately, the poorest of the poor are the one's who taking the most beating out of this, for example, since we have to turn to alternatives like ethanol, food prices around the
world have more than doubled this past year. Most people around the world cannot afford the basic staples such as rice. And yet here we are blaming each other because such company made ridiculous profits--which is a witchhunt, what about the credit card companies who make these obscene profits, banks, tech, pharma-- and on and on...

There is no supply problem at the moment.

^^^
In your dreams. You mean, there is no shortage. Supply is tight, very tight. Anything can disrupt the tight supply. Now, if there was a large supply available, any fart around the world would not affect demand. Right now there are tight due to Nigeria's wells practically shut down due to their fighting there. Saudi Arabia is pumping to capacity. All other producers are pumping to capacity.
Some people do not know the law of supply and demand and very little of the futures' market. By the way, it was under Jimmy Carter and the Democratic congress that allowed for the future/speculation market. Right after OPEC's embargo. It has taken price control from OPEC. The markets set the price, OPEC has little to do with it but they can cut world supply.

Many people think speculators are arbitrarily controlling price in ways that have nothing to do with the market and its actual fluctuations. Economic experts say and all have the same answer, and it basically is, No, that's not the case. The speculators, in fact, are good for the market. Thomas Sowell's book, Basic Economics, says that speculators play a valuable function in a market, something about accepting more risk so that other don't have to.

Walter Williams on futures markets, quote, "The futures market, which takes into account both the present and the future availability of goods, is a vital part of a smoothly functioning economy. Unfortunately, that fact provides little comfort to people frustrated over the high prices of food and fuel. As such, it provides fodder for political demagogues, charlatans and quacks who rush in with blame and prepare "solutions" for the problems they themselves have created. The high prices for food and fuel are directly linked to the policies of the White House and Congress.

Why not get the oil Rupert Murdoch promised when he backed the invasion of Iraq? Only 30 dollars a barrel!

More realistically oil is sold on a world market, the USA can't produce sufficient oil to significantly reduce oil prices world wide. You consume 25% of the worlds oil, more than the next four countries combined. You produce only 9.5%

You can't drill out of this problem, the economics don't work.

The speculators, in fact, are good for the market.

THe left wing dems want to socialize oil , healthcare thats the beginning of socialism thats why they will not drill our suffering is awin for there agenda OBAMA is a muslim first its in his book and he hates us he is a phony marxis socialist vote for him and you will regret it !!!!!

Gee, I wonder why these topics keep getting closed. Certainly not because of well thought out arguments like this.

Oil's a limited resource. Spending millions to drill for more doesn't fix anything long-term, it just temporarily drops prices.

"Lower reliance on foreign oil" is the problem; conservatives want to just drill for more oil, liberals realize that oil as a whole is finite and we're better off investing that drilling money in finding a substitute for oil that's more renewable & better for the environment.

Announce that the Federal Government will dump a couple million barrels a day on the market and that America is going to open the closed areas to drilling. That would have a quick downward effect on price...show the oil prducung countries that America is gettting serious. It would also have an effect on the oil bubble that is occuring in the futures markets.

With their motive of cutting America down, liberals attempts to stop oil production has always backfired on them. Recently in South Dakota they failed in stopping the construction of a new refinery. A new refinery in the making after some 30 years of having none built. What happened Elk Point, S.D., was not supposed to happen if oil prices were at $40.00 a barrel. Development projects like this are supposed to be outright rejected by residents and neighbors. But this refinery is a testament to our balancing the needs for growth and demand for oil.

Thanks to high oil prices, we can now tap into the tar sands crude from Alberta. It has been impossible since it costs about $15.00 a barrel to obtained compared to $2.00 a barrel of Saudi oil. Tar sands crude is a higher sulfur crude from the rest of the high-crude in the area. The refinery in South Dakota would process 400,000 barrels of tar sands crude from Alberta into low-sulfur gasoline, diesel and jet fuel.

The usual 60 to 70 percent crude produce in the U.S. could have been more if there was more offshore drilling. With ANWAR and further offshore drilling would have the importation of crude down to about 15 percent instead of the 9 percent from Saudi Arabia, 10 percent from Mexico, 11 percent from Alberta, 7 percent from Venezuela and 3 percent from Nigeria. If ANWAR and more offshore was done 20 years ago, that oil would have been flowing since 2000. So it's never too late to start drilling. Already there are old wells producing that couldn't a few years ago. All we need to do is reduce or stop the exporting of gasoline to countries that have no refinery such as Venezuela and most of Canada. That will bring the price of gas down.

A leftist site..... Do you have a site that will correct this if it is wrong???

Fact, Alberta has no sweet crude. It takes special refineries to refine that high-sulfur crude. America has sweet crude and Venezuela buys it's gasoline from America. It's the reason the left's hero, Chavez cannot shut the valve as he puts it. No oil-no gas! America exports sweet oil to countries that does not have it and does not have oil at all, like Japan. This in turn forces us to import more oil.
It's in oil industries newsletters, and Newsweek andTime have had articles on it. So have the Network news from time to time.
Be informed do not be like many leftists and having only talking points of America's the evil in the world. Consumes the most, pollutes the most, eats the most and all that leftist University garbage that's as old as a 57 Chevy. Obama still uses those talking points, making himself a featherweight. Hillary was right about him, he's an idiot.

This is ridiculous!

OPEC has even said, and it is why they are calling a meeting, that there is no shortage!
And have blamed this on US mismanagement.
Those F$%*kers are getting rich on this and you fools have gone right along with it.

THERE IS NO SHORTAGE!
Wake up and stop drinking the koolaid!
