All he did was rant and rave - march up and down the stage and make racists remarks.
"I bet the last time you saw a black man in a room like this he was serving dinner"
Over 1000 people and the room was just hushed in embarassed silence - it was cringe worthy.

| Britains greatest funny man Posted: 6/16/2008 7:41:58 AM | | good to see that this thread had a positive outcome and that many people can remember the older comediennes (have i spelt that right?). I know its down to personal preference and choice and what ticks your boxes but c'mon eddie izzard, lenny henry etc etc. dont get me wrong funny in their own right but not a patch on Cooper, Dawson, Dodd, Everitt, Cook and Milligan. I know i've left out many more but just take a look at Tommy Cooper and you cant tell me that you dont laugh when he tells a joke or fcuks up one of tricks (on purpose). This man was the ultimate comic genius with such impeccable timing and delivery. I urge everyone to look for any dvd or video or repeat of any of his programmes and watch it and believe me laugh, i nearly paid my rent. | |

| Britains greatest funny man Posted: 6/16/2008 8:14:28 AM | Oh I remember Morecambe and Wise they were very funny. The Two Ronnies was great as well. The Young Ones, The Monty Python team.
John Cleese was great in Fawlty Towers Ronnie Barker in Open all Hours The original Lenny Henry Show back in the day
One guy that does always make me laugh when he compares a show though is Bruce Forsyth.

| Britains greatest funny man Posted: 6/16/2008 8:44:54 AM | | Anything by Mike Harding still makes me laugh out loud, Tony Hancock, pure genius and perfect comic timing ! The big yin, you never know where he's going with a story, but they always finish with a belly-laugh, Peter Kay needs a new act, I loved the Blackpool tower dvd, but the Bolton and Manchester arena ones are much the same. | |

| Britains greatest funny man Posted: 6/18/2008 8:29:24 AM | Billy Connolly is my favourite
He has just done a 2 week run here in Dublin which I couldn't get tickets for due to the fact that people bought them in bulk and then flogged them for appalling prices on an auction web site despite the fact that the ticket site says you can't do that! But thats another thread - if Iknew how to start threads!!!

| Britains greatest funny man Posted: 6/18/2008 8:46:13 AM | This thread could actually be broken down into catagories.
Movie funny man - Peter Sellers Stand up comedian - Billy Connolly Sketch show - The Two Ronnies Sit com - The Young Ones (yes it was a sit com)
The best thing about comedy is that it's as individual as the person laughing at it so in effect everyone is right when they name their favourite as being the best, because in their eyes they are.
|
| Britains greatest funny man Posted: 6/18/2008 8:51:08 AM | ^^^^^^ Agreed with Ian C, it's individual...
Because I don't find Billy Connelly funny at all!
And Peter Kay might be still funny if he ever wrote a new joke in five years. I mean, how many times did he release a dvd of the same show, just in a different location?!
|

Ok, I know he isn't strictly a comedian, but come on, no-one has mentioned Jeremy Clarkson?! He's just hiarious!

| Britains greatest funny man Posted: 6/23/2008 11:54:32 AM | At the moment Alan Carr and Frankie Boyle are the two best stand-ups as far as all time John Cleese is far out in front in my eyes.
He has written and starred in Monty Python, Fawlty Towers and A Fish Called Wanda which are arguably the funniest sketch show, sitcom and film this country has produced.
Take a bow Sir | |
