| Manchester United reporting to FIFA............ Posted: 6/16/2008 12:20:25 PM | "they should have gone through the proper channels to ask about Ronaldo instead of using the Spanish media"
well what do you mean by 'proper channels'? what does it mean? of course Ronaldo is a contracted player. no-one denies it! Madrid have gone through the media because almost everyone does it. any footballer desires to play for Madrid.
if Madrid had talked to Man United they would have got a negative answer, sure! Madrid have used the media to make the devils know that Ronaldo wants to leave. also the media/press 'told' the devils that Madrid will pay 80 or 90 million Euro for the transfer (120 million Dollars i think).
so what is the difference between Madrid and others? have almost all clubs not done the same, and still do it?

| Manchester United reporting to FIFA............ Posted: 6/16/2008 2:06:19 PM | I think Fergie actually mentioned that over his many years as manager of utd he has had a lot of inquiries about his players. He then says that most of those are done officially through the club, without hte involvement of any media.
I think that was the main reason he is angry with Reals approach, not every club acts this way, especially when the other club makes it clear they won't sell.
But yeah other clubs do this, butReal have done it to a much higher degree, there was a period when not a day went past without another quote from the Real president regarding Ronaldo in our newspapers, and I think this only stopped due to the Euros!

Posted: 6/17/2008 5:11:12 PM | | Completely agree with wonderfulguy, ya ronaldo has been brilliant, but it was the amazing team effort which won them the premiership and champions league. He did say after winning it that he would stay, but lets see what happens.

| Manchester United reporting to FIFA............ Posted: 6/21/2008 4:50:31 AM | If Ronaldo was to stay at Man U, then surely his weekly wage would be way beyond anyone elses and that would represent a major headache for the club financially. Rooney will want a raise, then Tevez etc etc.
Yes, if Ronaldo left for Madrid, Man U would have a huge windfall for which they could buy the best right-sided wingers in the world (if that is what Sir Alex wanted of course).
If I was the United Manager, I would cash in on him and therby avert financial hell on the club and then buy Spanish right winger Jesus Navas for a much more bargain price than to keep Ronaldo on the books.
Hey, for the money I could probably buy Spanish left winger Silva as well.
Two for the price of one.
Okay.........end of fantasy LOL

The United players and manager are saying that he will not leave and will be playing with United this coming season. Others are syaing the direct opposite. Your initial point Pedro was that in football, anything can happen...I agree...which is why I'll wait and see, I would not be surprised by anything AT ALL...this story is not over yet!
As for this particular story...I am simply saying that it's a bit naive to not anticipate further twists and turns in this particular saga...United would of course look to cash in on ronaldo when and if he goes...that goes without saying. However, I think it is clear that Fergie wants Ronaldo to stay, that being so, I would not be surprised if Fergie is working frantically behind the scenes and playing all sorts of games.
Not to say I told ya so...but I did say that this story wasn't an open and shut case...soooo...I told ya so!!!!!!!!!

| Manchester United reporting to FIFA............ Posted: 7/8/2008 10:42:50 AM | do not listen to the English media.
the fact is that Real Madrid are offering 85 million Euro, whereas Man United want 100 million. just a few million dancing around

Fortunately the N.A.s you refer to are usually too dense to figure out that FIFA means football and they are clueless to the names of the great clubs.
Pasquel, speak for yourself. A large percentage of North Americans understand and appreciate football (soccer). I and a lot of people I know here in California are huge Arsenal F.C. supporters. Your statement about your fellow countrymen is ignorant and snobbish. Many more Americans than you realize are in touch with what goes on in the rest of the world. Next time, try not to unnecessarily bash your own continent.

| Manchester United reporting to FIFA............ Posted: 7/8/2008 3:18:01 PM | Thing is though, and this is what is getting United`s fans annoyed - Real Madrid are in no way shape or form a bigger club than Manchester United. Yes, United poach players from other teams, but it`s always from smaller clubs and ultimately footballers in general want to play for the biggest club they can find. Madrid only have the money to pay for something like this because they are part bankrolled and have been since Franco`s days by the Spanish Government.
If ever a sporting ranchise deserved the moniker "Evil Empire" it is Real Madrid, not the New York Yankees.

| Manchester United reporting to FIFA............ Posted: 7/9/2008 2:01:45 AM | Sorry Pedro...it is Calderon who came out and made comments indicating that he felt that he had failed to land Ronaldo. I said at the beginning of the championships that ANYTHING could happen and yet you all got carried away reading the same few soundbytes being recycled and spun out and recycled again day after day in the Press. Real and United are in the middle of a cat and mouse game. And it was not the foregone conclusion you all insisted it was...it never is in football.
And if Real fail...well, it's a massive blow for them in my opinion. I wonder how badly they need the franchising revenue they have lost from players like Beckham (giving one of the most lucrative names in world sport away for NOTHING...very, very stupid) given their financial situation...they wanted Ronaldo because he is the most marketable footballing commodity on the planet...what will they do if they don't get him...try and steal Messi from Barca??? Would you cheer for Messi if he pulled a "Figo" move?

| Manchester United reporting to FIFA............ Posted: 7/9/2008 4:49:47 AM | Funny enough as far as transfers between Real Madrid and Barcelona go, it doesn't seem as so absolutely taboo between those two as say Man Utd and Liverpool.
Case in point: I can remember Michael Laudrup moving from Real to Barca; Fernando Hierro moving from Barca to Real; Ronaldo (Brazil) moving from Barca to Real; Luis Figo moving from Barca to Real.
I'm positive there have been others too during that era, but the names elude me right now.
So why not Messi to Real too? No offence to Barcelona fans ............ LOL

| Manchester United reporting to FIFA............ Posted: 7/13/2008 6:13:53 AM | Oh, for sure Kirk. The fans hate the betrayal of moving to such a bitter rival. Every player I just mentioned experienced the same treatment for crossing the great divide.
But my point is that the two clubs don't seem to mind selling to and buying from one another (a bit like A.C Milan and Inter Milan). Something that may never happen again in England between Manchester Utd and Liverpool FC.

| Manchester United reporting to FIFA............ Posted: 8/11/2008 1:23:07 PM | | Looks like Man U is trying to lure Henry away from Barcelona since Ronaldo won't be back for months & Rooney is still out of action. This makes sense seeing the attacking duties have been thrown squarely on the shoulders of Teves. I remember Sir Al was after Berbatov but that potential deal hit a road block. | |
