| Should Britain scrap the royals? Posted: 6/14/2008 6:54:59 AM | United Republic of Great Britain and Ireland ? UR instead of UK.
Not having a monarch would not cause the consequences you outlined and totally unrelated. Thats very naive.
You wouldn't have to lose everything British. There would be very little different. This is the sort of non rational thought that stops us doing the right thing. Its not a socialist manifesto to rid yourself of a dated concept. Many nations as they are now never had monarchs and many are successful without them, the UR could be as well.

Thats very naive
You read Orwell's Animal Farm, he was spot on with Russia, didnt work out too well for those peasants either. Took 80 years for the USSR to collapse onto its knees with the super rich taking every penny from them. Forbes Magazine, put Russia into second position by the total amount of billionaires in the world, and you want to do it to this country.
Its not a socialist manifesto
You for real!!! | |

| Should Britain scrap the royals? Posted: 6/14/2008 7:57:25 AM | ^^ Msg 50: where do I start ? Oh well what about
every Nation in the World, used to have a Royal Family, but over time they've all disappeared under the socialist manifesto
Like the Union of Peoples Democratic Socialist Republics of America under comrade Bush ??????

Twat...Read my postings properly...I didnt say they remained socialist because socialism never works
Even so America is unique in that it is now an emalgamation of nations, initially a british colony reigned by King George III, over thrown by what could be considered at the time as more socialist reform and home land rule.
I would sooner be reigned over than ruled over.

| Should Britain scrap the royals? Posted: 6/14/2008 9:16:23 AM | | I say keep the royals, when the EU finally get's it's way and we scrap the pound for the euro, they will be all we have left of being resoundly british!! | |
|
| Should Britain scrap the royals? Posted: 6/14/2008 9:31:15 AM | So if the UK gets becomes a Republic and joins the Euro it will no longer be "resoundly british"
Just like: Austria is no longer resoundly Austrian ? Finland is is no longer resoundly Finnish ? France is no longer resoundly French ? Germany is no longer resoundly German ? Ireland is no longer resoundly Irish ? Italy is no longer resoundly Italian ? Portugal is no longer resoundly Portuguese ? Spain is no longer resoundly Spanish ? Greece is no longer resoundly Greek ? Slovenia is no longer resoundly Slovenian ? Malta is no longer resoundly Malteese ? Cyprus is no longer resoundly Cypriot ?

Yep , as I said - very naive. Obviously Russia is the only country to remove a monarch. france, germany, italy - much of europe (not to mention the rest of the world) obviously never had monarchs did they. Of course they are all hot beds of rampant socialist/capitalist see-sawing. NOT!
Its not a socialist manifesto
You for real!!!
Yep & bright. Fascism also dismantles monarchies e.g. Italy. Being anti-monarchy can be part of many manifestos and doesn't make you a socialist, it makes you a meritocrat, republican and a democrat if anything. Socialism is a very broad church also - but thats another story.

Whats naive about that...only stupidity to ignore it. When you have drastic changes in power, the only people to suffer are the little ones. The rich get richer. Its a good comparison because what republicans are asking for is to join a superstate which, as history shows us never works, the beging of that is the abolition of the monarchy. Even America is on the verge of bankrupcy as a superstate.
Being anti-monarchy can be part of many manifestos and doesn't make you a socialist
oh so my table is made of wood therefore everything thats made of wood is a table. Dont reverse the statement to look smart ok. It a socialist manifesto but it is also a meritocrat, republican and a democrat if anything...So whats your point.
|
| Should Britain scrap the royals? Posted: 6/14/2008 11:43:21 AM | When you have drastic changes in power....... because what republicans are asking for is to join a superstate
Naive because this story mimics the events in a particular situation not an absolute result of removing a monarch. Nations can improve their lot by removing monarchs as well.
There would be no drastic change in power if we removed our monarch, how?
Republicanism doesn't imply wanting to join a superstate.
Look at History, every Nation in the World, used to have a Royal Family, but over time they've all disappeared under the socialist manifesto. Don't have to look smart, I am. I didn't reverse anything, you said it was a socialist manifesto that caused them (monarchies) to disappear - I correctly pointed out this was not true. Thats my point - to correct your wild uncorrelated statements that are a bit like your table, made of wood.

| Should Britain scrap the royals? Posted: 6/14/2008 11:50:45 AM | Send them all down the Jobcentre. See if anyone will actually give them a job. Doubt it as they are so interbred. If this was Austria they would all be in jail for shaging each other. They are just another bunch of dole scroungers. Just get a bigger Giro than the rest!! And they live in a council house. Roll on the Revolution. | |

| Should Britain scrap the royals? Posted: 6/14/2008 12:38:36 PM | 62p a year to finance the royals is absolutely tosh. Theres 60 million people in this country, even if we pretend that every one of those 60 million is over 18 years old and pays taxes thats still only like £38 million a year
i personally dont believe theres one reason to keep the royal family, not one
Tourists dont come to england to see our royal family, they come to see the palaces or the castles. They come to see what the royal family used to be not what it is today
I mean its not even like these tourists end up meeting the queen. They fly into london stand outside buckingham palace for 20 minutes then leave
so what difference would it make if theres a queen inside or not? If anything if there wasnt a monarchy then we'ld be able to totally open up buckingham palace and all the other residences and that would probably generate more income
the gulf between rich and poor is going to get bigger and bigger, with the amount of poor getting larger and larger
Subsequently there wont be any patience or tolerance for seeing royals (both minor and major) wasting or being extravagent with tax payers money
helicopter rides just to play golf or holidays or just generally living a life of luxury and extravagance is not going to play happy with those living on the bread line
back in the olden days when the king/queen actually ruled the country then you could say that they earnt their palaces and land. But now they still have their land and their palaces and their lifestyles but they dont actually do anything to earn that amount of luxury
it would be like being you being at work but them removing all your responsibilities but keeping you on at full salary
and the fact that they are trying to reduce the amount of money they cost the country is a sign that they realise people just arent prepared to put up with it anymore.
Sooner or later the people will speak, there will be a referendum or such a public outcry that the monarchy will have to step down and there wont be one anymore

your maths is good
http://www.royal.gov.uk/textonly/Page4965.asp
Head of State expenditure has reduced significantly over the past decade, from £87.3 million in 1991-92 to £37.3 million in 2006-07. In the year 2006-07 The Queen cost the taxpayer just 62 pence per person.
|
| Should Britain scrap the royals? Posted: 6/14/2008 1:25:08 PM | There are actually about 31million tax payers so this under estimate of royal cost is nearer £1.20 each. But of course this is pure royal PR: the real cost of the royals is nearer £150 million per year to factor in security costs (police+army), grants, unpaid tax and other overlooked 'indirect' costs - nearer £5 for each taxpayer each year. | |
|
| Should Britain scrap the royals? Posted: 6/14/2008 1:29:11 PM | how much does the taxpayer cough up each year to keep some toerag in prison? to fund legal aid to defend such toerags? tax which keeps benefit scroungers in fosters lager? MPs with 'expenses'? at least the royals have some reciprocal financial benefit 62p? £5...£10 per year???? peanuts | |

| Should Britain scrap the royals? Posted: 6/14/2008 3:27:02 PM | OK so it isnt xmas, soon will be
NOt going to get into my personal reasons why we should keep the Royals, its my personal opinion and I dont fancy getting into a serious debate over the matter.
Its a very simple YES.
And as for the Europeans sticking their nose into our business, as usual, they should quite simply "stop doing it" and go and find something worthwhile to discuss about making the world a better and safe place..........and so should our politicians.
|
| Should Britain scrap the royals? Posted: 6/14/2008 5:59:12 PM | The paraphenalia of tradition is quite pretty and reassuring in its way. I saw some Trooping of The Colour footage on the news last night and it looked wondrous. Now, throwing all that away might be a bit like pulling the wings off a butterfly. What else would we find to jolly up our National life? It's tradition innit? The Royals matter less as living breathing individuals than they do as mascots and symbols.
Maybe at a future time we could replace them with a set of gaffe-free lifelike android replacements but until then I vote to keep 'em.
