Or, if you want to be discreet, do as others have suggested and give it to the hostess or waiter without your date's kn0wledge (and after you two know each other better -- that's your date, not the waiter! LOL) it can be a cute "backstory" that you can tell your GF/BF about "that time we went to the expensive place..."
This answer also gets a vote, in my opinion:
I would be happy to see a guy using gift cards or coupons on a date. It shows that he is careful with his money. I would suggest not bragging about how little the date cost or how much regardless of how or how much you paid. *emphasis added
As with most things in life, it's not what you do, so much as how you do it. If you've already shown signs that you're cheap, using a giftcard might be the straw that broke the camel's back on that issue, in your date's mind. But, if you have previously exhibited behavior which shows you're a generous soul who's simply careful with your money, that's a plus in many people's books!
And I also propose Kyn for President. An Aussie would be just about right! I can just imagine the North Korea Talks, under her fine hand.  | |

I went to a movie with someone, and paid with a movie gift card someone had given me - what's the big deal? Heck - bring a coupon if you want! Either you like each other, or you don't. If they're mad about the gift card, it wasn't going to work out anyway. | |

Cheap is one thing, as in MAKING me go somewhere I don't want to go in order to use a 2 for 1 coupon LOL, that's just cheap and gross...but a gift card is just money on plastic :) I don't mind it. | |

And anyone who is a single parent knows you do what you can to make ends meet and to have fun with your kids. So it's commonplace for me to use coupons when I buy groceries, go out to eat, or even when I buy clothes. I get the best deals I can. And I have all those frequent shopper cards too.
So if a guy took me on a date and used a card or coupon, frankly I would not care, especially in this tough economy. | |

if we went on in the evening and he never mentioned it, and just uses it at the end, it'll feel like the only reason he took me to something "nice" was because he got a gift card. | |
