Affirmative Action Outdated?

Review the statement you made again. It is very stereotypical. It is not a fact people with unusual names are poor and uneducated. However is a fact that they are often discriminated against. People should not assume if a name is unusual to them, that the person and their parents as you stated are poor and uneducated, just as they should not assume because a person is a minority, they are poor and uneducated. Do you seriously not see the similarity in the manner of thinking?

*sigh* the horse is dead...stop beating it already. You are not comprehending what I have been saying at all and continue to repeat the same argument (part of which I agreed with a number of times.) Most stereotypes are based on some form of reality, this one is based on statistics. Lets agree to disagree and be done with this irrelevant argument.

That was worth a good laugh.

MLK envisioned a world where ALL PEOPLE would be judged on their merits and character and NOT on their race.

Yes, it's pretty simple. Not sure why people don't understand that government sponsored racism flys in the face of MLKs dream.

I highly doubt that if MLK were alive today that he would be making a speech "I have a dream that minorities would not take jobs away from the hard working white man." All minorities combined whites still hold majority of the jobs, so really, stop whining.

I just watched a show where they said that in some Southern towns for every 100 black women there are roughly 70 black males of marrying age (I'm assuming 18-40 or so) . What this tells me is that the rampant violence and incarceration of black males in many areas is very evident.

I haven't seen any statistical measure that shows blacks having any fortified position against white males save for the NBA and NFL. No one has provided any evidence that minorities are being sought after and hired over whites regardless of qualification. If this is true then please show me because there is a littany of information showing racial discrimination as it exists in current times.

Years ago I worked as a counselor in a domestic violence treatment program. The men who were convicted had to attend weekly for a year as a condition of thir probation. They really didn't like having to do that.

The cops used to tell them all the same story. "Ever since OJ, our hands have been tied. We have to arrest you and the DA has to press charges. We don't like it any better than you do." The cops really didn't care about OJ and they really didn't blame him. Most of them preferred making the arrests because it was simpler and less risky for them. Go in, break it up, make an arrest, get out, get the conviction and you won't have to go back there again. When the guy gripes, blame OJ so he doesn't get mad at you and start resisting arrest. Scapegoating OJ was just SOP for them.

I wonder what percentage of the stories white men hear--that they weren't hired or promoted because "AA forced the boss to hire a woman or minority" are just lines to divert a disgruntled employee's anger over not getting picked. Just because a hiring manager tells you that you weren't hired because of AA, that doesn't make it so. In fact, most employers won't tell you the reason you weren't picked because doing so opens them up to potential liability. So if a manager of a big company does hand you an excuse like that, it's most likely just scapegoating.

I don't know of anonymous scientific surveys of hiring managers to assess how many use AA to justify discrimination against white applicants. I am sure there are some. However, I seriously doubt that they are nearly the percentage that some folks claim.

Sounds like a plan, Erik.
Let's try that for a generation or two.
We can see just how equal it all is.

You are the one not comprehending your own prejudiced statement. You say you are for Affirmative Action which is good, but I bet if you met someone with an unusual name, you would automatically believe they are poor or uneducated. That is sad.

Let's also end corporate sponsored racism while we're at it. After all, corporations are legal constructs, which means the public has a right to specify the terms and conditions under which they operate.

Really? In what country is this true? This appears to be a rather broadly-worded statement.
