Is reading someone's diary _ever_ justified?

No, it's not justified. One can't open their partners' brain (legally) and pull out thoughts and feelings, hence, stooping to snooping is just as wrong, IMO. We all have that inner voice that tells us that something isn't right, yet most strive to not hear it. Shutting it out by b*tching and moaning instead of confronting it head-on, like a supposed adult should do. I'd had the chance to read my ex's emails (once upon a time) and I didn't do it. They were to a woman that lived a few cities away and they worked for the same company. By not snooping and just paying attention to what was going on, I let that voice direct me down the right path. I have no regrets, and wish them all the happiness that their deceptions provided them..... *shrugs*

A better question to ask is why they felt the need to have to hide something in a diary and not communicate with you? I post my diary on the web for all the world to see, I have nothing to hide from anyone and actually have a little pity in my heart for those people who think that they can't be themselves and let the world love them for who they are!

Different people have different levels of comfort.

I'd say yes, it would be justified - when they say you can.

I heard it said "people who have nothing to hide .. hide nothing"..

if someone has a diary they need to keep it some place so I can't be found..

I think CarolAnn nailed this one. Reading someone's private communications would ONLY be justified if you suspected your minor child of some sort of DESTRUCTIVE behavior, not just something that you didn't necessarily approve of.

But if you're at the point that there is the least little doubt about your significant other, it's either time to "discuss the matter" or stop being exclusive, because there are probably other issues affecting one or both of you. Not all relationships last forever, and I think that when you become suspicious it's time to think of ending it. No trust--no relationship.

funny how certain answers to certain topics in theses forums can really make someone look bad depending on how they answer.thats why i think most people should treat theses forums as purely fun and not a profile on a person posting.i imagine that most people who will say yes to the topic up here will be looked at from the oposite sex as someone with issues or im sure someone they wouldnt date.this is kind of a touchy question with a touchy answer its kinda like asking if u tought your partner was cheating on ya for sure would u check on them? most people on this site wants a partner that doesnt have trust issues people.answering yes to this thread makes u people instantly pinpointed has having trust issues even tough it might not be it at all.so to thoses who say yes to this question think about this or dont be surprise if your mailbox gets less messages after this lol
