I really have heard it all; this is one of the most ridiculous questions I've seen on POF. How this affects a relationship is so beyond me.
There are better things to think about than this as a deal breaker. You really need to get out more.
I definately need to get out more.
Considering you posted 16 times on these forums today (including my ridiculous post) and over 21 times on Saturday, I'm thinking you might need to get out more as well. | |

Posted: 6/15/2008 7:07:35 PM | I don't think it would be a dealbreaker unless he was obsessed with UFOs. On the other hand, I agree with sanderick that we can't possibly be "alone" in the universe. My view is somewhere between the UFO crowd and we are alone crowd: Yes, there are alien persons, or intelligent life forms in the universe, BUT they are too far away to realistically be able to travel here. Although it would be fun to meet an alien  OK, maybe this banana is one or this?
Of those who believe there are other persons in the universe, what do you think they look like? | |

Great....I don't necessarily want to re-read Project Blue Book or any other "proofs". I'll watch "alien autopsy" that she taped, just for the laughs.
I'll even discuss it a bit...as long as it doesn't become "the" topic in every conversation or outing. | |

I'd be careful for some more fibs on their way to evoke sympathy, like it was so traumatic I can't work and the experience made me mentally and physically ill. Agrophobia! I'd ask them to prove it. You can usually tell if their pulling your leg for their own self interest, which might include anything in a beginnning relationship. | |

Posted: 6/16/2008 6:54:12 AM | Would you think a person mad if they said they believe in life after death and jesus and god and that, doubt you would but thats far more illogical than there not being other life forms somewhere out there in the unexplored infinite of space, neither has ever truly been proven but for some reason the one that makes more sense to possibly exist is the one less believed in.
There are depths of our own oceans that have never been seen or explored so how can we rule out life forms from another planet that we have no idea exists, yet people are happy to believe that when we die we go up to heaven or down to hell  , no offence to anyone but thats madness in my opinion. | |

If they start telling me with wide-eyed earnestness that they've been abducted and anally probed, or that they are a 9/11 conspiracy theorist, then they're on my "no fly list."
I have trouble relating to folks who cannot comprehend the theory of Occam's Razor. They wouldn't like me either...........

I don't accept that UFOs are extraterrestrial vehicles, until I see the wreckage and/or bodies myself.

When I'm up really late, I listen to that show on AM radio where they talk about the supernatural and other crazy phenomenon. It's fun to entertain the ideas of life in outerspace, Bigfoot, and ghost visits. I think I would give a person with a UFO sighting the benefit of the doubt. I know psychology so I hope I could decipher between the delusional and sane having an unexplainable experience. | |

If they believed one time they saw a UFO, and wouldn't listen to reason, I guess we'd have to agree to disagree and move on with life- I don't hold the delusion that everyone has to share my beliefs, merely the hope that not everyone is delusional
Now, if they're the kind who goes around ranting about it like they're somehow special, going to UFO sighting events and support groups and the like, then there is just no way I'd be able to respect them. | |

I would place my bet on the UFO. Better odds. Afterall... a UFO is an UNIDENTIFIED flying object.

I believe life exists outside earth, but I think the possibility that alien civilizations wasted all that time and energy to come to earth of all places, is very remote. It would depend on how they evolved on their home planet. It is probable there are many planets in the universe which resemble Earth, so if life is carbon based, aliens may share organs or appendages which have a similar function to those found on Earth (such as eyes or circulatory system for example). However, it is very unlikely an alien being would look like a human, despite what is shown in science fiction shows. | |

Posted: 6/17/2008 9:00:39 AM | Hmmmm...yeah, sure, why not I guess. I can't really fault somebody for simply believing in an idea despite the fact that there's no solid evidence for it. Millions of people do that on a daily basis and few of them are actually nuts.
I personally don't believe in UFOs (well, the "alien" kind anyway) Wait...that's not quite true. I believe in the possibility I suppose but since I'm a critical thinker as much as possible, I don't yet have any good reason to believe anybody on Earth has ever seen one. So far, science is on my side and so is the lack of evidence.
People love an interesting story. They see things they can't explain so they figure it has to be the most interesting thing they can think of that 'fits' the scant evidence they have. I can't say that I necessarily respect this method of mental filing but it also isn't necessarily a sign of either stupidity or instability. So sure, I'd date a woman who believed in UFOs but I doubt I'd be dating her for her critical thinking skills. | |
