>>>I participate in SETI@home project...

Searching for alien life in the universe and searching for alien life in your backyard are two entirely different things.

of course it wouldnt be a deal breaker.millions of people in the world say theyve seen stuff like that.and lots of them are normal people .somes with good jobs.highly educated and very smart people with a good head on theyre shoulders.theres many planets in the entire universe.to assume were the only living beings in all of it and to assume were the only species on all thoses planets is to be pretty ignorant.u dont need to believe in it.but at least just dont say its not possible.

Since there is no evidence to prove they DON'T exist - I probably would date someone who believes in them because I, myself, believe in life beyond our planet. I find it incredibly self-centered to believe we are the only intelligent, sentient beings in the universe. I probably wouldn't date someone who's family vacations consist of week long trips to Marfa and buying alien urine, but someone who believes in the possibility and probability of life outside of earthlings? Yea, I would (and have) go out with them.

to let you know ufo has been in acient history on myan and aztec temple walls and have seen the drawings first hand, egyptians had them in their markings from a friend in the research field so its not to far fetched. SETI is another topic id like to not discuss, as well as the roswell and area 51 sites.

Why not? Far more reasonable to "believe" we've been visited than to believe that something that created billions of galaxies would love the smell of sacrificed goat meat or even care what materials you can or cannot wear together or what you eat :D

I notice alot of people would say they'd date an alien. I wouldn't for ethical purposes. Can't have my Earth germs destroy their immune systems :D Humans have killed other Earth humans with Earth based diseases, if you think Natives had a tough time with European diseases imagine an ET not even from the same planet adapting to us? Plus dating an ET would be bestiality (unless the ET was also human, still would be weak against Earth germs).

I am a sci fi nut so if I came upon a little grey man I would think aw you are a cute little guy and ask it "Are you Thor?". The wide world around is full of stuff and I say can't we just enjoy the stars? I like thinking of ways we could live in space and build ports on the moon and mars. God never said we were the only place life would be found He says that this Earth is ours to fill not that we would have to stay here or others could not visit.

I would not date a person who believed in ufo's to the point of hunting them out because it does no good. No matter how the crop circle got there what ever happened is over. No matter what the light was it is gone. No fear if you were tagged you did not find the "How to Serve Man" cook book on board. So why go on about it?

Let's not forget what UFO stands for "Unidentified". There are thing out there like animals, etc. that no one has seen before because of cross breeding or because you couldn't get to their habitat before or whatever.

They eventually give it a name.

And from what I heard from someone who watches the news all the time...they found water on mars. Meaning there was life at some point.

You may find more people believing now

Sure, It doesn't matter if it's a late model UFO, as long as it's a smooth ride.

I'm into abstract thinking in any way, shape or form. Creative thinkers need apply. If I could get together a decent costume I would BE a big grey girl, ... for the photo shoot, maybe stick around for the after show party.

If UFO's have round beds you couldn't get lost going to the loo.

Would you date someone if they saw something in the sky they couldn't explain, but insisted it was an alien spacecraft?

Assume this person was employed, fun to be with, and a seemingly thoroughly reasonable person in every regard, but insisted he had seen a flying saucer and he thinks that we are "not alone"?

Would that be a deal breaker for you if you didn't also believe?

Okay, not be be a jerk, but TECHNICALLY if it WAS a spaceship, it was NOT a UFO. A UFO is LITERALLY an Unidentified Flying Object. Your date said he/she saw a flying saucer. Not a UFO, he identified it.

That being said, there is a HUGE difference between stating as fact and DENYING as FACT.

With hundereds of Billions of stars and scientist claiming the "random" actions that caused life on Earth were a billion to one, it would seem logical there were HUNDREDS of stars that had one or more planets with life. And if one believes in God, as I do, it is entirely within His power to create life elsewhere.

Until EVERY last planet in universe has been explored, it is NOT scientifically accurrate to say life CANNOT exist elsewhere.

Consider the Iraqi war. Bush stated there were "weapons of mass destruction", so far they have not been found. It is impossible to STATE as FACT that they did not exist until you have searched entire country. Semantics, YES. But important. Failure to PROVE is NOT PROOF OF FAILURE. (EDITED: each day we remain there is a possibility, however small of finding something. )

So since UFOs happen ALL THE time, no, I would not hold that against ANYONE. Simply means someone saw something they could not identify.

Now, if someone told me they saw a flying saucer land in Central Park. THAT I would have an issue with until I saw it on the news.

Sure, there's more evidence for the existence of UFO's than the existence of God, and plenty of people believe in God. At least there are pictures of suspected UFO's

I swear I've dated women who must have been from outer space.

I can just imagine the first encounter with an alien from a planet 37 light years from here:

me: "Hi, welcome to Earth."

alien (2 heads, 6 eyes, 4 legs, green and smells very strongly like jasmine incense): "Hi, we just had to come by and ask- Why did they cancel the original Star Trek after the third season? It was just getting good. And what's with this bald guy, Picard? He never scores with the chicks and hardly ever uses a phaser."

Original Question: Would you date someone if they saw something in the sky they couldn't explain, but insisted it was an alien spacecraft?

billinme's answer: Okay, not be be a jerk, but TECHNICALLY if it WAS a spaceship, it was NOT a UFO. A UFO is LITERALLY an Unidentified Flying Object. Your date said he/she saw a flying saucer. Not a UFO, he identified it.

Props to you for reading the question, billinme.

It's one thing to think that there MIGHT be something out there, it's another thing to feel that you specifically know the history of other planets left here by visitors, their cultural customs, appearance, tragic wars, all because someone in Switzerland saw something in the sky and photographed it.

So, would you date someone who had SPECIFIC knowledge of aliens based on seeing something in the sky?

What about if a person you were dating claims to have been abducted, taken aboard a craft and "proves" it by showing you a red rash on their hand, or explains they experienced a period of memory loss and then finally remembered all these events on an alien space-ship or planet?
