Hi everyone :)

Sorry to say I wont be able to make it to the Mt Warning climb, I'm going up to Brisbane to help my Mum organise a retaining wall at her place and then I'm catching for a BBQ at my Cousin's. I was really looking forward to doing the climb with everyone, I've done a Sunrise climb once before and it's awesome :).

Take care one and all ,and have a great time :)

Update on my health situation: I went to the specialist yesterday and it appears that I most likely "DO NOT" have cancer as my doc had previously thought...... phewwwww!!!!

What a stressed out time it has been! The specialists prognosis is now 80% bet on an infection and 20% bet on cancer... I have another CTScan in 5 weeks so fingers and toes crossed it will show up with nothing abnormal.

Thanks so very much for the support and love so many of you have given me......

The last few weeks have been the toughest ones of my life and I wouldnt have been able to do it without the support of my POF friends. Cuddles to you all

Gypsy,
thats excellent news! and here's hoping theres more good news to follow for you.

as for this event,
as has been previously mentioned there's really not a great lot to do as the people that are still going seem to be pretty well organised from what i can tell and we'll be sticking to the origional formula of a 2am carpark with climbing from around 2.30am~ish.
so if you're late to get there, just start walkin...
there's a possible meet for satdy afternoon around 5pm ish but i'll need to confirm that,
so any idea's/offers. throw your two bobs worth up here and we'll go from there.

best of luck for you Gypsy and we'll all be packin camera's.

Gypsy, I'm really happy to hear that. Take it easy and get over this chest infection, then we'll all go back up the mountain with you.

Vandy, Just wondering about this Sat'dy Arvo meet? Do you know any more details?
And is there to be a picnic on the Sunday in the Tweed Valley still?

See you all there.

Howdy Rick,
Satd'y arvo?
in reference and confirmation to post #321 on page 13 of this thread, anyone in the area that will be along for the climb can wander on down to the Tourist Park at the base of the mountain for a casual meet 'n' greet from around 3pm onwards.

given there's a fair amount of travel involved for most of us attending this event and that some of us will be guessing as to what each other looks like, as i'm sure you'll all be aware, we'll just need to keep an eye out for each other and hope we get it right.

as for a sunday picnic get together,
we'll see how many are there for the climb and we can decide that whilst there but it is still in my thinking to do something like that.

anyone reading this thats still planning on being a part of this event,
now might be a good time to check in here to give us a bit of an idea as to who we'll all be looking out for. i'm taking a guess that the numbers will be a fair bit smaller than the 40 odd people that are listed on page 1 but we 've still got climbers, so we're good to go!

thanks again to Gypsy for starting all this and a big "WELL DONE" to all the smoking quitters!

Again, a very big "GET WELL SOON" to Gypsy. Will keep my fingers crossed for you.

To everyone coming down and staying at the Mt Warning Holiday Park, mention "PoF"
when you book, and they might put us all together. Or at least let you know where the other "PoF"ers are.

Hope to see a lot of you there.

Rick.

well here we go,
a very big thank you once more to Gypsy for setting the wheels in motion for this event.
the weather treated us well, the stars were out with only a few clouds about, a light cool breeze which didn't seem to bother too many of us, with evryone getting along well and being supportive and encouraging to those that needed it. a very patient understanding crew of people to say the least.
saturday afternoon, a few of us managed to catch up and say g'day but with mobile phone coverage in the area not being the best, a few people kind of missed out but the 2am carpark saw 10 people ready to climb. 8 from POF and 2 guests.
so up we went with the obvious fit and younger taking the lead, torches flashing all the way up the trail in the fresh morning air. regular breaks were had with the leaders stopping to allow everyone to catch up and check. conversation on the climb covered a wide variety of topics and sometimes bordering the ridiculous. it's amazing how much chat there was even with all the walking/puffing we were doing.
it was inevitable that the question be asked, but i really didn't think it was going to happen a 100metres up the trail,
"are we ther yet?"
to anyone contemplating doing this, do it. i'm sure all on this group would agree as the smiles were all round.
the trail itself takes many turns & twists as it rises, a challenge for some and a walk in the park for others and in the darkness, your vision is only as good as your torch. the moon was out but the majority of the trail is under the canopy of the rainforest so only the odd glimpse was avaiable to us and i think we were on the other side of the mountain to the moon anyway. closer to the top the trail becomes much steeper and a chain has been run next to it for climber safety. it can get a little steep in places and a few of us were nursing some physical problems but as it was no race and we were making good time, a more steady approach saw all on top a bit after 5am.
so out came the stories, snacks, food, chocolate, champers, bullsh!t,bush turkey, mist, camera's,other climbers, clouds, dampness, aches, pains, support, more bullsh!t,olives, crackers, tins of tuna, nuts, camanbert, cordial, water, steamy breathes, thermos, tea, jumpers, gloves, mobile phones and holy bloody dooley whats that orange thing over there!
sunrise was beautiful.
we were lucky to be treated to sky mixed with those big white fluffy things and clear with a great view when not. i'm not too sure exactly what time the sun came up but we were all snapping off pictures left right and centre to capture the moment. it was quite misty up top with a high moisture content in the air, most photo's i took of the sunrise are quite misty due to my lense misting up but the experience itself is well worth it.
so we stayed up top for a while with our descent being when we all agreed it was time.
once again, everyone just got along so well. a great group of people for sure.
so what goes up, must come down.
back to that chain again, at least we didn't need our torches this time round and with the sun now well and truely up, we were able to take in a little more of the beauty this place has to offer. stunning views out over the tweed valley, the sound of the wonderfull birdlife, and that crisp fresh morning air.
time didn;t seem to matter anymore and i have no idea what time we hit the carpark. plans for the sunday were pretty loose and there was no group picnic as mentioned as a possible earlier in this thread. the carpark was pretty much where a few of us said our goodbyes and is pretty much where my climbing buddy adventure concluded.
it was amazing on the downward leg, just how many people we saw going up, that had no water or food with them. give yourself around 5hrs and take the neccesary supplies for your own safety.
i'd like to take this opportunity to encourage other fellow climbers to throw up a story about thier experience as it'll be great for the other readers to share should they be considering this as an event for themselves in the future.
i'm unable to load photo's for this event but am happy to share what i have even if some of them are a little blurry.
cheers to all that shared this experience, best of luck to you all and very nice to meet you's!
and once again for Gypsy,
i'm sure this climb will suit you perfectly.
cheers!

Hey all,

Sounds like it was an awesome event , and I presume that by the lack of response that those who went are still recovering.

Vandy/Gyps , I have a few questions you may be able to answer ,

1/ How long was the walk (km?)

2/ Roughly how long did it take (average?)

3/ What is the elevation of the summit of Mt Warning (mts?)

Kool

Glad you all had fun and returned safely.

Pete.
