| Bombers Releasing Troy Westwood: Posted: 6/17/2008 4:53:56 PM | Im not a huge sports buff, and cannot quote stats like some do here...but I look at it this way:
If we have the metrics in place to measure Key Performance Indicators...and he is slipping into the Not Performing section, it is time to go. Why should an athlete be afforded the slide into not performing-ville and be kept on, when in real life, if we do not perform as expected, we are 'punted'?
I enjoy the games, and have met Mr Westwood, he seems nice...but that is no reason to keep him on.
|
| Bombers Releasing Troy Westwood: Posted: 6/17/2008 8:19:54 PM | | I agree completely. Troy Westwood has written cheques his talent could not cash for a very, very long time. That may have been forgivable it it weren't for his huge ego...demanding to be treated like a star. The best thing Bomber management has done in years is give Mr. Westwood his walking papers. | |
|
| Bombers Releasing Troy Westwood: Posted: 6/17/2008 8:33:05 PM | dakota you seem to think that I wrote the bit about what has dave ritchie done for the lions lately but in fact....it was your direct quote. I merely pointed out what he did do for the lions lately 1st overall in the cfl. mark mcLoughlin? retired in 2003 came out of retirement in 2005 to play one year for bc the man is 42 yeah thats who we need | |

True enough, DocRock13 however, to think of it tho, what has Dave Ritchie really done for the Lions, nothing too much, if anything really.
And that is why, Ritchie and Buono are such good buddies, because, what do they really do, except a bunch of BONEHEAD trades, like the Casey Printers situation, and now, the Doule D, and theier QB situation, they used some of their starting QB's in the game against the Riders, and the Riders just thrashed them.
So, you had a good point, DocRock13, what DID Ritchie do for te Lions lately.
Oh, I can tell ya, that Lions Management System, tho DocRock13, is something else, ya have t actually live here, to hear what goes on in the Lions Den, from the Management prospective, are they ever something else.
As for Mark McLoughlin, maybe Bombers should get him out of retirement, AGAIN, then, because, who do Bombers really have in training camp, to replace Westwood? N ONE, of any substance, at least with good old Lefty, they had something, despite some of some of his shortcomings.
However, tho, by letting good old Lefty go, before getting someone else decent, in his place, is DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUMB. It will be interesting to see how Taman works his mastery at wizardry in finding someone decent now, and PDQ like.
Because, letting good old lefty go, before finding someone decent in his place, NOW leaves Taman's and Barry's heads on the chopping block.
Oh, those two have now got themselves into a very interesting situation, it seems to be almost like a Mutt N Jeff scenario, between Taman and Barry.
Good lord, what next.
They had better get that decent Troy replacement, PDQ like, or ELSE.
And so the soap opera continues, in search of a replacement for Westwood.

| Bombers Releasing Troy Westwood: Posted: 6/18/2008 10:38:09 AM | I think the major point on this issues has been ignored. Its about game wins, and building a team that will do just that. Its not about players whining in the media about why they let the team down. Personally I am sick of the years that Troy Westwood whined when interviewed about why he blew the game. He is not alone as there were others and they men are paid to do a job - quite simple and when they dont do it, its bye bye, cause there are other that will. I hate players who are so full of themselves - my gawd, these are just people doing a job and getting good benefits because of their job. So their lack of performance should be no different than the slacka$$ at the next desk to your that is also not doing what they are paid for.
Well if the Bomber office wants bums in the seats, they should be putting together a good team that will win. Bottom line. Milt is not enough, there should be excellent players in each of the special teams. The coaching should be doing a better job after that fiasco with Dinwitty in the playoffs.

| Bombers Releasing Troy Westwood: Posted: 6/18/2008 11:06:24 AM | My opinion (and, as always, solely my own): at the end of the day, life goes on
Does Westwood being released make a difference in my life? No - I am not going to lose an iota of sleep - or brain energy - because of it
I can respect those who enjoy football and some of its soap-opera-y moments but when all is said and done, life goes on
Thanks for listening - I return you now to your regularly scheduled programming

| Bombers Releasing Troy Westwood: Posted: 6/18/2008 1:56:53 PM | My only 'crying' about Troy is that they probably cut him too early, just for the simple fact that they've got nobody better so far. I have no problem replacing a player if he's not up to the coaches' expectation...just make sure you have someone better.
Now he can be the poster child for the Banjo Bowl!

B I N G O, good one, Danooooo, and how so true.
Ya sure at times, Troy would complain about certains, however, tho, have we forgotten s0 easily, about what the guy DID DO RIGHT, yet, on the other hand, it is probably about time for the guy to step down, he has done his best, and he has set all kinds of records, it was not like he was a total slump or loser, non at all.
However, as Danooooo said, and it is true, if you are going to cut a guy, then WHY, would you cut him, when ya have NO ONE in camp that can do anything, or very little.
DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUMB, Management move, prevails, once again, ONLY, thinking about their bottom dollar line, and thats all, and nothing more.
WHEN, will Management EVER LEARN, to think beyond their bottom line of the all mighty buck?
Short term losses DO NOT, make for long term GAINS, NEVER have, and NEVER will.
And the LAST thing that Bombers need, is another Lions Management System, goooooooooood, lord, they do not need that, as if one is not enough.
And to take that one step further, is Canucks, ya, the Canucks, playing for the Canucks, or Managing the Canucks, or even Coaching the Canucks, has been one heck of a total, complete nightmare, and a place in h e l l to be at times.
So, at least with Troy, Bombers DID, have something, and something is far better then nothing.
Now, since they have nothing, both Taman's and Barry's heads are on the chopping block as said before.
Nope keeping Troy until at the very least, they find someone good to take his place, would of been better.
And since Mark McLachlan is now retired they cannot get him either, unless, Bombers can woo him out of retirement, but, McLachlan, is the type of guy that Taman and Barry should be looking for, instead of what the meager group that they have got.
Also, here is another thing I do not beleive, Juran Bolden, they let him go?
Good lord, which makes ya wonder, who the heck have they got in the defensive backfield that is any good.
IS there ANYONE back there of any decency
If they have not got ANYONE back there, then the front defensive line is going to have to do MAJORITY of the work, just like Ty Jones did, of zereoing in on the oppositions QB, and saking the guy for a loss, forcing the opposition to punt.
Sounds like Bombers have still have, quite of few players to replace, an maybe more then they realize, or do they.
And so the drama continues in Bombers Head Office, to find the right mix and combination, of needed players that CAN, do the JOB, and get it DONE, and hopefully not too late in the season either, especially, if they are going to make another run for the playoffs, and Grey Cup.
|
| Bombers Releasing Troy Westwood: Posted: 6/18/2008 7:34:21 PM | One more thing about Troy....if he was soooo bad.......why was he still beating out all kickers Berry brought in last year to replace him?? As a fan of the GREATEST TEAM in 2007 (maybe in history) it makes my green blood curdle to say this but .....I REALLY WANT THE BOMBERS TO WIN THE GREY CUP THIS YEAR! But.................. I know he does alot of things right....and he has made a difference in this team....BUT! Berry made a ROOKIE decision during a game last year, that lost the team a game....and 1st place. ....he has also got it in his head that Westwood must go....no matter what.!!!! I hope he doesn't cost THIS CITY what they deserve to have this year because of stubborness.
Hey ! A QUESTION!!
MaBloney or something like that, said he is a "changed man" from the days when he left the Bombers Hi and dry ! Disappeared ! no less
Good for him I say !
However!
No one wants to say why he did what he did.....
I strongly believe people can change if given the right motivation...not who they are...but some of the things they practice BUT
We are a publicly owned team.....Troy was well liked and by most indications was still quite respectable as a kicker......and ALOT is lying on a bet that this guy, MaBloney is for real.... Do you not agree that some disclosure should be made about why he did what he did and why we should believe he has changed???

| Bombers Releasing Troy Westwood: Posted: 6/18/2008 9:25:50 PM | duncan Omageorgeclooney,is said to have entered rehab sometime after his infamous no show. why do we enter rehab? draw your own conclusions. mine is that he developed a crippling fear of flying and/or greyhound buses. the kicker they have now- serna is said to be fairly accurate but cant punt The punter ^^^^ The aforementioned duncan oscarmeyerbaloney cannot punt high (hangtime for defense to get downfield) or seemingly for distance. he does however have a knack for placing the ball well. | |
|
| Bombers Releasing Troy Westwood: Posted: 6/18/2008 11:31:51 PM | DocRock13, I totally agree that, it is not only the distance, or positioning of the ball that is important, but, man, that hangtime, of kicking the ball high, sure does help in a big way to buy your defense time to get down field, to surround the punt returner.
Got give the guy 5 yards tho, (don't need that no yards penality) and once ya give the punt returner 5 yards, and he just moves, then he is open game, and ya can jump all over the guy. But ya, that hangtime DOES really counts, no matter how far or where, the ball is going for positioning and good old lefty, Troy, was really good at the hangtime, kicking that ball high.
As for these new guys, of Duncan, and Serena, well, will have to see, how they turnout, if, IF they do.
|
| Bombers Releasing Troy Westwood: Posted: 6/18/2008 11:45:02 PM | Oh, also, how about that line-drive punt that Troy made about a couple of years back, against the Argos.
That ball took off like a missle, hit one of the Argo players in the helmut, bounced back to Bombers, and Bombers retained possesion of the ball, however, it was so funny how that happened, and totally caught the Argos off guard.
And the surprised look of diebeleif on Pinball Clemons face, was just priceless.
A cool call, by Troy, that worked.

| Bombers Releasing Troy Westwood: Posted: 6/19/2008 8:26:22 AM | Good Hang Time? Opposed to Good Positioning?/
Maybe its time we should get some lady's opinions on which they prefer??

Good one, tempt your kharma.
Hmmmmm, Good Hang Time Opposed to Good Positioning to get some lady's opinions on which they prefer eh.

| Bombers Releasing Troy Westwood: Posted: 6/22/2008 9:40:43 AM | Ok, I'll bite on this one............... Or would the correct verb be chew? Where is spelly when you need her?
Good Hang Time - opposed to Good Positioning, and you are asking for a lady's opinion....................hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Why choose, hang time is only important if the positioning is right - LMAO
JMHO, Haywiresue

|
| Bombers Releasing Troy Westwood: Posted: 6/23/2008 9:59:12 AM | But wouldn't you agree that if the hang time is sufficient it is very important inorder to get your defence set up to stop those little guys from scoring a touch down ??
Mind you if you position the balls...oops I mean ball, perfectly , then you are more likely to be able to corner that one litlle bugger who runs like the wind and tackle him before he scores that touchdown.
|
| Bombers Releasing Troy Westwood: Posted: 6/23/2008 3:24:03 PM | Its important to have a good QB on the football playing field, is to be able to read the field and adjust his throwing to accomodate what is happening on that play. This includes knowing the appropriate hang time when he releases the ball, that will allow his players get in postion.
Nothing at all like a competant QB............
|
| Bombers Releasing Troy Westwood: Posted: 6/23/2008 4:12:53 PM | Ok Winnipegers, if you are going to post anything about the Bombers, make sure your facts are correct! I think they will have a great season coming up, with lots of game winning plays. (I've checked my facts, and they are correct! ) | |

| Bombers Releasing Troy Westwood: Posted: 6/23/2008 10:50:24 PM | Love some of the nicknames for Sgt Mahoney of the Police Academy!
Ya, him and Sarena will make quite the pair, however, after hacking out about who, what, and where the kickers will be, time to get away from that one.
Sue, has a point there about a competant QB.
Dinwiddie, sure proved that he will be Glenn's backup once again this year, and
Dinwiddie sure showed a lot of poise against the Al's, that he can get it done.
By taking the Bombers down the field without ANY, huddle(s) and capitalizing on a TD, so, Bombers will have Glenn, and Dinwiddie in tandem as the starter, and first string back up, and then, their third stringer, but, at least Bombers will have the 1 , 2 knockout punch at QB, with Glenn / Dinwiddie.
