| Doing Cardio To Burn Fat Posted: 6/18/2008 4:19:39 AM | I've included his entire PT because he has been running every morning. This is part of a course he is currently taking, (for his job) and otherwise wouldn't be doing. I'd say that due to this cardio, he lost some mass, but his definition has increased; especially in his abs. I'll try to get a current pic on the computer from my phone.
Edited to add: The pictures did email, but are too small to see any details. He has been away training for three months and will be back in the middle of July. I'll post pics then if he can't get me current ones otherwise.

| Doing Cardio To Burn Fat Posted: 6/18/2008 4:23:45 AM | There is a time to give it a rest.
Using gear isn't that big of a deal, if you dont want to use it then dont!
Here is a better question for you... why is it people need to consider themselves superior to others to make themselves feel better and reassure themselves?

Why is that so hard for you to accept?
That's not hard for me to accept, but that's not what you originally said.

| Doing Cardio To Burn Fat Posted: 6/18/2008 4:27:24 AM | | Oh, by the way, I just checked out your guy's picture, and if he's been lifting for 20 years then he's tiny. | |
|
| Doing Cardio To Burn Fat Posted: 6/18/2008 4:38:54 AM | | The picture is old - as I said - note the hair? He wasn't tiny then and he's not tiny now. I think it's funny that you need to put that rub in there though. | |

Didn't say he was tiny. I said that he should be much bigger after 20 years training. That's the sort of point I would've expected your average guy to reach after 5 or so.
It wasn't about rubbing anything in, it was more by way of rebuttal to the who you should take advice from. Just because someone's been training a long time doesn't mean they know a lot. I'd rather take advice from someone who's made 3 years worth of progress in 1 1/2 than someone who's made 5 years worth of progress in 20.

| Doing Cardio To Burn Fat Posted: 6/18/2008 4:47:18 AM | ^^^ Ive seen Squelchy's before and after pics. They are really astounding, talk about a hard-gainer.
If you're really nice to him, he might show you just how much progress he himself has made.

What a lot of people don't even realise about them is I took a LOT of time off doing other stuff when they were taken, so even though they were two years apart, the actual time spent bulking up was probably no greater than 18 months, if that.
My interest and dedication does tend to wane quite often.

| Doing Cardio To Burn Fat Posted: 6/18/2008 4:56:22 AM | I'd love to tell you the date of the photo, but I have no idea when it was taken. I know it was when he first started feeling like his body building was making a difference. He said he was proud of his "horse-shoe" and that was what he wanted the picture for / of.
In any event, I do look up to him and go to him for advice. Obviously, I always will. Upon looking at that picture, I can say I'm glad he decided to start removing the hair from his forearm - lol, how weird that looks (to me).
I'm sure Mr. Squelchy's success is noteworthy, I just disagree with some of his ideas.

| Doing Cardio To Burn Fat Posted: 6/18/2008 6:17:08 AM | The art of BB is all subjective. What one person considers "good" another person might look at as "needs improvement"
For the lady who made the comment about being superior. BB has nothing to do with being superior to anyone. Its about personal growth and the sense of achomplishment. Sure their are bozos out that that want to get jacked to intimidate others (those dudes usually have self-esteem issues), but for the most part we train hard because we want something better for ourselves. We set goals and see if we can reach them. Its no different than wanting to push yourself with your career, the only difference is that you are doing it with your bod. As long as your doing it in a healthy way I see it as a huge positive.
Again, opinions will differ but I think the advice Jay gave regarding his cardio intensity is something to consider if you have busted your butt in the gym to gain muscle the natural way and want to trim some fat off without burning off exsesive muscle mass. If you wanted to be a fast sprinter, who would you rather listen to. An olympic athlete(who no doubt has used performance enhancers) or a top level HS runner. Im sure both have great advice, but you'll prob wanna listen to the Olympic Athlete because at some point he was at your level and he knows what it takes to get all the way to the top.
As for the plateaus in the gym or in life, If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you always got. Change up your routine, diet and even your attitude.

"cardio is a must."
... Another Myth That Won't Die.
I don't mean to pick on you, but increasing aerobic fitness (improved work rate at VO2max and lactate threshold) increases fat-burning enzymes in the body.
The body is constantly burning a certain amount of carbohydrates and fats in a certain ratio depending on energy demands. Improving aerobic fitness shifts that ratio more towards fat-burning than carbohydrate-burning.
So you're right in that it's not the aerobic exercise itself that burns the fat, but improving aerobic fitness is "a must" for speeding up 24-hour fat-burning.
It could also be why people with very high levels of fitness and activity lose fat very quickly on high-protein, low-calorie diets whereas unfit, inactive people lose weight pretty much equally on any diet so long as the calories are low enough.
That's my $0.02

If you wanna look like a sprinter, train like a sprinter. If you wanna look like a fitness athlete, train like a fitness athlete and if you wanna look like a bodybuilder, train like a bodybuilder.
I wanna be tall. I'm gonna start training like a basketball player.
If you want to look like a sprinter, and you presently don't, then travel back in time and slap your parents for not handing down the genetic gold that would have made you a sprinter.
|
| Doing Cardio To Burn Fat Posted: 6/18/2008 7:38:07 PM | | Your height is genetic. Muscle mass, strength and speed although influenced by your genetics can all be enhanced and improved with time and the proper training. If I wanna look like a bodybuilder Im not gonna train like a sprinter. Come on, this is common sense. | |
