I think it's healthier than alcohol - and I love a good bottle. But I'm sensitive to situations where sole caretakers take risks which could result in legal problems or custody transfers. | |

Posted: 4/10/2009 12:29:35 AM | In general, I have nothing against smoking, but I do think it's incompatible with parenting. It just seems to me that being a parent means, in great part, being "on alert" pretty much all the time, and really any kind of high makes that impossible.
I have to agree with the original criticism levied. I don't know as I'd go so far as to say it means a person is a terrible parent, that seems extreme; but I'm sure I wouldn't recommend combining pot-smoking with having a child. Or a pet, for that matter. An emergency might arise anytime. We have to be ready for it, and able to deal. | |

Posted: 4/14/2009 7:28:34 AM | It doesn't make you a BAD mother, IMHO it does make you a bit irresponsible. The things you mention are normal, basic parenting and as such won't win you any awards. Some things are expected of parents.
The problem, again, in my opinion, is that we teach more by example than buy words alone. What's your example? It's ok to break the laws or rules you dissagree with?
I'll use my life as an example. I used to smoke up to 3 packs of cigs a day. I don't have to wonder why all 3 of my kids are smokers now do I? (please don't tell my ex I admit she was right!)
Or what of some one that tells their kids to be racialy tolerent, and then avoids interaction with people from different ethnicities?
Kids don't come with user or owners manuals, so outside of blatant neglect or abuse, no one should judge anyone elses parenting.
In response to smoking weed being unpatriotic and making you a mindless zombie, our last two presidents both have admitted drug use in their past and they both got elected, TWICE! and of course it made John Lennon a complete idiot! get a life. | |

Put it this way.. if social services knew you were doing illegal drugs.. you would most likely never hear from your kids again. i find it quite disgusting to be honest and heart breaking that a child has to watch you with your illegal drug addiction. | |

Weed is nothing serious unless you put it before everything that is important A drug is a drug weed is one too some people i know don't sleep because of need to smoke, sell things steal, lie cheat you name it.. As long as your not pushing it on your children, exposing them to it in any way such as rolling in front of them or talking about it, spending money intended for your child's well being ect "Remember monkey see monkey do". I have seen time and time again families that have the parents smoke and they let word to their kids about it and then the whole family smokes and I find that tacky and tasteless how do you get respect when they can hold that over your head???.
You are a good mother if you never let it control you.
I would say nothing to anyone but people who are your friends and you can trust.

Sounds to me like some man just dosnt know how to deal with rejection and started acting an ass to try and attempt to save face. I support legalizeation it would save alot of money for the government and be benefical to the people. i dont think the current president will make it legal he has special intrests to protect he dosnt give a damn about everyday people. This man who told you this crap about you being a bad mother becuase you smoke (or eat) pot, is just another mindless person who has been programed to ignore the benefits of cannabis yet he probably chugs whiskey and eats pills like candy. im voteing for ron paul in 2012 he has the nerve to speak the truth and has the peoples best intrests in mind , and he has the voteing record in congress to prove it. I admire your honesty with the world. Marijuana is far less dangerous than a lot of the legal controlled drugs out there like Oxy-Contin, and should be legalized for medical use ONLY!!!! As far as her being a bad mother. Well, as far as I'm concerned, anything that impairs your motor skills, or judgment while caring for a small child cant be good, and if this story began with her saying that while in her care the child was injured while she was high on marijuana ... all of you would be singing a different tune. I kind of have a problem when people feel that because they don't agree with a law...then it's okay for them to break it. How about if you were opposed to stopping for red lights which is the law? That would end in disaster.
I think there is a mentality where people have disregard for the law. I know, my older son was one of those people. And now the law is telling him that they have a disregard for his disregard for the law. He is now in prison after being arrested for a second offense of selling marijuana. So that has not gone well!!!
I'm grateful to say that the light is beginning to dawn however. He's realizing that it was not a smart thing to do and that breaking the law will always eventually bring penalties.
Once a young girl thought should would say something discouraging and damning to me about my smoking cigarettes. (Used to smoke cigs, quit quite a good while ago.) She brightly told me that she might smoke pot...but what was the difference???...'cause I smoked cigarettes. I frankly told her..."Well cigarettes are not illegal."
Honestly I do think it is detrimental to society when people decide that the law is meant for others but NOT for them. Then society is faced with the consequences of their decisions.
If OP has very strong feelings that marijuana should be legalized then I think it's her right and she should work to get legislation passed to see it legalized. But in the meantime, I don't think she should be breaking the law.
There are a variety of reasons why we fishes might approve or disapprove of smoking pot. My primary reason to disapprove it, is that it is a disregard and violation of the law. Others have argued that it could mean that OP is endangering her child. That is quite true and I have actually heard of more than one public incident in the news where people using public transportation have been endangered and killed because of operators of subways, buses, etc., using drugs, including marijuana.
I expect that anyone who reads these forums would come back with a strongly negative attitude about the use of marijuana if their child or someone they loved very much were killed in a public transport accident because the driver/pilot/operator were high on pot. There's a reason why it's illegal and as of now it is illegal and anyone who uses it is breaking the law.
I mean if it's really OK for Op to smoke pot...then I want it to be okay for me to go to the grocery store and take milk, eggs and butter without paying for them. I know it's not legal to steal things from a grocery store...but hey...I don't LIKE that law. So I say it should be okay for me to just steal what I want. Right? | |
