| Why do women appreciate motercycles but not airplanes Posted: 6/17/2008 1:56:24 PM | Actually, no. Not me, anyway. You need too much runway for a Lear to just park it any old place. If you throw the thrust reversers out while the wheels are still about 6in off the ground you'd be surprised just how quick you can stop :)
Took my kid up in a JetRanger last year, She's hooked :)

^^^THIS will be WHY I will NEVER get on a bike with YOU beef.
I actually don't own a motor cycle, just a couple dirt bikes.
Much less in a fricken plane with ya.
Pfffft...I was born with wings...I admire aircraft...I'm obsessed with the idea of flying...had I persued my dreams instead of falling in with the wrong crowd I would have been a pilot by 16. Flying for Air Canada instead of working in software development in a lonely room with only me and my cat.
Lets see how close we can fly to the fricken ground without dying Kyn.
Haha...nothing like that no...when I do something I'm passionate about I do it with the desire to be the best of the best, not a stupid dumba$$.
Lets see if these parachutes actually DO work, ya know I set them up myself dontya...are ya proud of me Kyn?
Haha...you really think I'd try and kill you? Naw...I have never hated anyone so much that I would want to kill them, except maybe terrorists, but I don't think I could pull a trigger and kill someone in sight. I'm more a push a button, launch a missle from 1000 miles away kind of guy.
They do have backup parachutes ya know, so if the first one fails, the other one hopefully works.
Sometimes OP...its all about the pilot. Infact...now I think a little more...Im jumping in the plane with you...cos I sure as shit aint gettin on a bike with beef.
Fine....fine...sheesh. I'll just club you over the head and throw you in my trunk.
Car accident.
Ouch, they suck. I've been in two, where I wasn't driving (my record has been clean for over 13 years -- no accidents yet *knock on wood*). I kissed the dashboard both times but never broke my neck. I guess it's a trade off, you break your neck, or screw up your face. I wasn't born this good looking, I'm a result of several beatings, accidents, car crashes, etc.

Are you flying because you love it? or to pick up chikkas? Someone needs to get their priorities sorted out. Leave the women behind, and get INTO the plane.
(this was not meant to aggravate to OP) I just realise that flying and the ability to do it is ONE HELL of a great gift.

| Why do women appreciate motercycles but not airplanes Posted: 6/17/2008 3:49:13 PM | Since when do pilots have trouble getting laid? I always thought they were nailing the airline attendants.
I have always wondered why boats have life jackets, cars have air bags, but there are NO parachutes on an airplane.
OP, I wouldn't worry about impressing anyone, as they'll likely think you are desperate and needy, or over compensating. Just play it cool, and save the flight date for later in the relationship.
Or you could just drive her to the airfield on a motorcycle.

Wrong type of aircraft, you fly the equivilent of a Corolla. Show up in a P51 or Lear & the women will be swarming like bee's to honey.... Even the smallest aircraft that require a license to fly are, in terms of performance, gas guzzling ability, and expense, are in the same class as a Lamborghini. Plus they can fly- a Lamborghini cannot, well, not for very long anyway. I have also flown higher performance aircraft in the past, and I personally think that light aircraft are more fun to fly than the high performance ones. I would even take a pitts, stearman, or a decathalon over a jet aircraft.
As far as me not being confident, or doing this for women. Well, I have been interested in airplanes longer than I have been interested in women. When I was a child one of my favorite places to go was with my dad to the local aerospace museum. I would get some kind of toy every time we went. I did balsa wood airplanes, put together plastic model, when I was a bit older I messed around a bit with RC aircraft, then I got my pilots license at 18. By then, yeah, I was interested in women, but not when I was six years old. Going up in an airplane with the neighbor who was a pilot was a very thrilling experience for me when I was a kid and I could never get enough of it.
As far as confidence and experience go, I may have confidence issues with women but not with airplanes. I have thousands of hours of flight time, a commercial license(technically certificate), multi-engine, instrument rating of course, flight instructor certification, ATP, and a couple type ratings. I am qualified to be an airline pilot if I really wanted to be one. So no, I don't think I have confidence issues with my flying ability. I first got my license the summer before my freshman year in college, so when I went to college, since I saw in high school how impressed women were with guys on motorcycles I thought that I could REALLY impress them with a pilots license. Instead they seemed to mostly be afraid of them, even a girlfriend I had only went up reluctantly with me once and didn't seem to particularly care.
As far as safety, yeah, a light airplane only has one engine as opposed to larger aircraft. But if you lose an engine in a multi engine airplane, that can be dangerous too if you don't know what you are doing. If one engine is producing thrust and the other isn't, and you take the aircraft below a certain airspeed it can go into an uncontrollable yaw which can be very dangerous too. I am simplifying things a bit but that is what happens.

| Why do women appreciate motercycles but not airplanes Posted: 6/17/2008 4:32:07 PM | For the record - I would like to let the OP know that there is a third kind of woman - the one who is afraid of motocycles and small planes.
I am one of those women - I don't fly in small planes, and I definitely do not ride motorcycles. I have responded to too many motorcycle crashes in my career and too many light plane crashes where picking up body parts was part of the job!

| Why do women appreciate motercycles but not airplanes Posted: 6/17/2008 4:40:12 PM | | Another interesting thing I notice, I have done scuba diving and got a Padi dive card. I notice there are quite a few women scuba divers out there, much more than pilots. I would put scuba diving in the same category as flying in terms of risk taking. | |

Sorry man, when I said you lacked confidence in yourself, that came out wrong. I wasn't doughting your ability to fly or your confidence in yourself, what I meant was that, maybe you didn't excude confidence around women and make it clear to them that YOU ARE PILOT HERE YOU ROAR kind of deal.
Most guys who genuinely enjoy planes, love planes from early childhood, in fact every guy I know that is a pilot grew up liking the idea. It's that passion though that makes you want to fly, not the fact that it impresses women, so why care?
I hear your pains man, I really do, ask anyone that knows me well, and they'd say all I talk about is airplanes & computers. I have never and probably never will meet a woman through any of those industries.
I am qualified to be an airline pilot if I really wanted to be one
Ummm...why would you go through all the trouble of getting your commercial and ATP if you had no intentions on being a professional pilot?
So no, I don't think I have confidence issues with my flying ability. I first got my license the summer before my freshman year in college, so when I went to college, since I saw in high school how impressed women were with guys on motorcycles I thought that I could REALLY impress them with a pilots license. It's all in the advertising, tug at their heart strings. If you sell something with no passion in your voice, of course they won't be interested. I've managed to get some women playing around with JavaScript and HTML so I know it's possible.
But if you lose an engine in a multi engine airplane, that can be dangerous too if you don't know what you are doing
Yes but you wouldn't be flying a twin engine if you didn't know what you were doing, so that is a moot point.
My argument for Kyn was that small aircraft are simpler machines. Simplicity always results in less failure. A amatuer pilot is simple in his skill sets when compared to a professional pilot who has 20,000 hours of flying time. So while the captain of a 747 might be extremely skilled, it's his aircraft that has many many many failure points. Likewise, a small single einge amatuer pilot, might have a few hundred or thousand at best, but his machine is simple and will not likely explode mid-air.
I am willing to bet that most small aircraft accidents are mostly pilot error and rarely mechnical troubles, so in theory a small plane is intrinsically safer, it's the person behind the yoke that determines the destiny.

| Why do women appreciate motercycles but not airplanes Posted: 6/17/2008 5:06:48 PM | Statistically, small planes are more dangerous than automobiles and much less dangerous than motorcycles.
Most small plane accidents result from one of two factors (both pilot errors):
1. Flying into weather that the plane, or pilot, is not equipped for, trained for, or prepared for.
This can be mitigated by getting a current weather briefing, not flying when the weather's bad, and by the pilot having an instrument rating and being proficient at instrument flying.
2. Getting lost and running out of fuel. This happens a lot less than it used to since most planes (or pilots) have GPS these days.
And yes, if the engine fails (which is rare, excluding #2 above, which also doesn't happen that often) the plane becomes a glider, not a rock.

If you don't stop this, I will find you and put you STRAIGHT. I GAVE UP a LTR realtionship for a PPL. I have just got my Category 1, and am awaiting a lantern test. DUDE. STOP IT.
FLYING IS AWSOME. If you keep being a****I will come to your'e house and kick the crap outta you. YOU CAN FLY... what the **** ELSE do you want? Screw women, they are non understanding.
PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.. REALISE WHAT YOU HAVE. A motorbike is nothing... (granted I want one- only for the danger aspect) Stop this shit... so many guys out there would give ANYTHING TO BE A PILOT. I REALLY DONT CARE IF I GET BANNED FROM THE FORUMS AGAIN. You really don't see how lucky you are. Flying is a godsend. Stop being a****and appreciate it. I left a LTR to get a PPL. THATS HOW MUCH FLYING MEANS TO ME. No woman even comes close. COME ON MAN.
STOP FEELING SORRY FOR YOURSELF.
you can FLY. What the **** ELSE do you need?
Andy
PS
"I am qualified to be an airline pilot if I really wanted to be one"
I've wanted to FLY since I was 5. So fuck you mate. If you're prepared to WASTE IT. Go ahead. It pisses me off- I have a Category 1, with a Daylight restriction. And all you can think abou tis WOMEN. YOU PISS ME OFF.
I think about FLYING. Why even start this thread smartass? I'm colourblind and there's NOTHING I want more than to work as a pilot. You are so FOOKING ungreatful IT MAKES ME SICK. TIS ALL IVE EVER WANTED. TO BE a PILOT.
And all you can think about is if women like it or not. GO you. DICKHEAD. ban me. If there are people like this who forego great oppertunities, then fuckit. What the HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?????

I think each to their own man...I mean I not everying is going to be in flying...just like I don'tsunderstand women spending hours in the bathroom...
I thnk those little gender differnces is what make women so sexy.
I geek out and they make themselves pretty
Meh...life is a crazy adventure.

| Why do women appreciate motercycles but not airplanes Posted: 6/18/2008 12:39:24 AM | Yeah- but lets face it. He has the qualifications to live and work as an airline pilot. To me- he is being ungrateful... more that is humanly possible.
I shall reafrain from kicking the crap out of him, but.
Holy Jesus. What an ungrateful **stard.
Tis true.
ban me if needs be.
Toodles. | |

| Why do women appreciate motercycles but not airplanes Posted: 6/18/2008 1:25:37 AM | | Flyboy, you have plenty of time ahead of you, I am certain you will make it if that is what you really want. I still love flying, I just love to do it on my terms. I am by far not unique, many, many pilots, once they get out of the military, may be qualified to be airline pilots but have no great desire to for whatever reason. Others try the airlines for awhile and decide it is not for them. Maybe they have another passion besides flying that they want to pursue. And to be honest, it is not as great of career as it used to be, at least not in the U.S. We are all different and I am sure you will get there-where there is a will there is a way. | |

| Why do women appreciate motercycles but not airplanes Posted: 6/18/2008 1:28:39 AM | | And no, I am not upset what women think, I have known this for quite some time and could care less what they think. But since this place had a forum called "ask a girl", why not ask "why"? | |

| Why do women appreciate motercycles but not airplanes Posted: 6/18/2008 6:15:11 AM | I have responded to too many motorcycle crashes in my career and too many light plane crashes where picking up body parts was part of the job! And just how many car wrecks have you responded to?
I think you've been playing to much flight simulator. Nope, just happened to be present when someone did that at a very short field one day.
& remember, if you are flying on an aircraft with two engines & one craps out, the other will carry you all the way to the scene of the crash.. :)
I have always wondered why boats have life jackets, cars have air bags, but there are NO parachutes on an airplane. Because the self loading cargo are too stupid to use one in an emergency. Most of the planes I mess about with have parachutes tho.....

| Why do women appreciate motercycles but not airplanes Posted: 6/18/2008 7:55:16 AM | In answer to TheLimey's question - my car wreck responses are few. I dealt with the really bad sites, plane crashes, murders, suicides, etc. I dealt with the mortocycle accidents where they were doing over 120 mph and smacked into a tree, or hit a bridge barricade and went over a wall, mostly the extreme speeders.
Like I said - I would not get on a cycle or in a small plane, and it is not about having anything against small planes or cycles - it is about my not being comfortable with either of them.

But I was just So annoyed at the fact you seem to think women arent' into planes. It doesn't matter at all if they are! I would give absolutely ANYTHING to have my restriction lifted. Hopefully the lantern test will prove helpful... I hope.
Sorry for the outbursts- I had no right to say what I did.

| Why do women appreciate motercycles but not airplanes Posted: 6/18/2008 9:42:52 AM | | not too many fly planes also . with what only 1 out of 25000 people flying them probably? lol, it's too uncommon of a thing for the average person to comprehend or think about , trust me airplanes are fantasy for 99% + of the population , when in today's world even driving a car is becoming a sickeningly costly affair to afford let alone a airplane... and it's hefty price-tag | |

| Why do women appreciate motercycles but not airplanes Posted: 6/18/2008 2:11:09 PM | OP, so you like girly girls who are into planes?? My advice is, stop complaining, sell your plane and buy a pink Chihuahua. You'll charm your target audience at once. You can't eat your cake and have it. (And I LOVE planes... and pilots.)

| Why do women appreciate motercycles but not airplanes Posted: 6/18/2008 2:57:32 PM | I was in a small plane once...it was over Sedona and the the view was spectacular. The pilot had many years of experience including being an Alaskan bush pilot. I was very very nervous and claustrophobic until I found out these 2 facts. Aside from this experience, I'm not a fan of flying or small spaces and I am not about to just get into a plane with just anyone... and having known 3 guys who have had accidents within the past year...not a motorcycle either. | |
