| GOP convention button asks, ‘If Obama is president…will we still call it the White House?’ Posted: 6/25/2008 11:43:40 PM |
All rich black people are white. That is one thing I have never fully understood. Questioning if a man or woman was "black enough". You don't pick the colour of your skin, you are born you grow and you make the best of whatever opportunities you have. One would think that successful members of any community would be held up as examples of how to succeed rather than being questioned on the legitimacy of their relation to the community BECAUSE they have succeeded(albeit from most often a minority of that community). Safe bet that little fiasco intentional or not has cost them some votes from black republicans(brilliant tactic alienate a portion of your voters) and socially conscious republicans. How many will be hard to quantify.

It's not like being black has vaunted any other candidate into a presidential run. Obviously Obama has something that was missing from these other candidates, one of them is mass appeal.

I just point it out because the inverse would almost certainly be mentioned as evidence of continuing 'mass racism.' Obama pulled in about 80% of the black vote during the primaries. If Hillary had pulled in 80% of the white vote, you don't think we'd be beat over the head with what terrible racists we were?
Just to be the Devil's advocate...
And the half white/half black thing is irrelevant --> our society views anyone with even a slight black appearance as black, most likely because they're the minority and therefore the 'other' to the majority. I think I've read that 78% of the African-American population in the US has some European ancestry, with European ancestry accounting for as much as 20% of the total genetic contribution to the population. (In comparison to about 2.3% African contribution to the European-American population). In this country, the black identity is just as social as it is ethnic, perhaps moreso. So, its essentially meaningless that Obama is half-white, society will identify him as black anyway. And this is really not a new phenomenon.

Yup , blacks are voting for a black , since they feel they will benefit from representation . They want to make sure they get as big slice of the pie as is possible. The old saying "blood is thicker than water " comes to mind.
The point is that despite all the politically correct rhetoric , people will vote along racial lines . Blacks do view other blacks as having their interests at heart and rightfully so . This is very natural . As whites become a minority and begin to see themselves as a distinct group and in need of representation as such , they will do the same . It is inevitable .
In fact , for the first time ever in American politics , Hillary alluded to gaining the "white vote" Ironic that it came from a democrat. ..

Since when does Hillary think she has the white vote? Didn't she turn her back to us years ago?
Liberals find out the hard way. No matter how much they fight for black causes and build up a fine track record of helping them; all it takes is ANY black opponent to get 90% of the black vote. Now that Hillary needs us, she comes running back. http://www.nypost.com/seven/05092008/new...
Too late! Most of us white folx still remember her actual record. Most of us remember her anti-white practices: Upholding Affirmative Action. http://clinton.senate.gov/~clinton/news/... Pro-illegal immigration. http://www.boston.com/news/nation/washin...

Actually, i'd like to SEE one of those buttons instead of just hearing about them.
I'm starting to wonder if it wasn't just an Urban Legend Smear against the Reps...
Lotta poo being thrown by folks this political season...
I can't post a picture on this site, but pics are available all over the internet!
Way to be a skeptic though! (not being sarcastic)

Does colour REALLY matter to you that much?!? If it does, perhaps you should avoid voting until such time as you develop a frontal lobe.
Now you know why democracy is an absolutely horrendous form of government. ANY moron that turns 18 gets to vote, and statistics prove that MOST people are indeed stupid.
Welcome to the tyranny of the stupid.
