Despite what many people have said here, there are a LOT of folks hung-up on powertrips in relationships these days. Whether it be the smug & condescending "bad boy" that every woman seems to drool over, or the hot "Mean Girl" that steps on everyone who isnt a size 2 like her, its all around us and it transcends age & nationality.
Id be a hypocrite if I didnt say I prefer a more "powerful" woman, myself. Its just what I look for in a personality. The difference, though, between a preference and a powertrip is communication, though. I dont want someone who "makes rules" and tells me what to do, but rather someone who is more apt to take charge of a situation in life when I simply dont want to deal with it. (IE--seeking Cougars).
If we all really think about it, there's some sort of power balance we seek in anyone we date. Whether it be someone who's more laid-back or aggressive, I think we all seek someone that balances our own personality out a little. Hence the old saying of "opposites attract". | |

There's a section of Brooklyn basically populated by people that look like the guy you've just described. They do it to get a rise out of innocent bystanders, they get a kick out of it. As someone said earlier, the two of them are probably laughing at you right now.
The controlling, mind-game-playing types are usually FAR more subtle than that, which is what makes them so scary. It would've been really nice if they all advertised their beliefs that blatantly, so that those who are not into all that could avoid them like the plague they are. | |

Good point. I think you have to be able to tell the difference between control, which is in not giving the SO any say in decisions, as opposed to being the decision maker. I would say that even if one spouse does a little more of the decision making, input from the other spouse is considered and used, and not simply disregarded. But that is not the same as somebody who just makes all the decisions without regard for the SO (selfish), or just likes to manipulate and/or order around the SO (control freak).
Of course there are people who would rather leave the decisions up to somebody else, not exactly my cup 'o tea (I consider that wishy washy and milquetoast). | |

OP, I'd guess it's probably just an insecure person wearing a t-shirt like this, who figures he has to "prove" something to the world at large in a 'tough guy' sort of way. Just a thought, but maybe she wasn't his girl friend???
While having complete control would be great, there is one small problem with that approach. Totalitarianism would stiffle innovation. Being challeneged is what makes life such an interesting learning experience. Only in defeat do I ever learn something new.
Sure I like things done a certain way, but having a woman submit to my every request would be mundane & boring.
Some people are control freaks and others are submissive, shy and/or quiet. I personally would like to meet someone in the middle of those two personality types.
Someone who can listen to reason, and offer a counter argument if they do not agree. Personally, even if I do agree, I still argue as a devil's advocate, just to make sure all bases have been covered before making a decision.

~OT~ I'm perfectly happy letting the SO, bf, spouse, whatever he is, call the shots that matter the most. There are some benefits to that. If something goes terribly awry, I'm not responsible and at the end of the day, all I have to do is worry about a happy homelife. He can stress about the things that need stressed about. To each their own, I only know what works for me. (Withholding sex is the silliest concept I've ever run across ~ the sex-card...pft.) JMO  | |

He may be rich, he may be supplying her with drugs, she may have such low self esteem that she feels lucky to be with him (not all pretty girls have high opinions of themselves), he may have a 14 inch pecker and know how to use it 4 or 5 times a day... you don't know what the situation may be. | |
