Here's a tip: crop your photo to be as square as possible. Check out my Red Hat and bike-bridge shots, both taken as horizontals. I cropped the sides and made sure that the aspect ratio didn't change (because POF's thumbnails do that already, if the photo isn't square). Try to make it 4" x 4" or 3" x 3" and it will show up well in the thumbnail galleries.
