Soulmate Vs Playmate...

I've wondered for a long time now if there is such a person we all think of as a "soul mate". It seems as though we all have our own definition as to what this humanly experience might be. I personally have never experienced such a feeling with another person, love maybe, but not of the spiritual type. Maybe that's because I have my own idea of what I would consider a "soul mate". My first thought when I hear the word "soul", I think of "spirit". I believe the soul signifies the spiritual principle in humans, of which some religions believe was created in the image of God, by God (Higher Power if you prefer). I believe our spirits were created long before these human bodies came to be and when we die these bodies will rot away here on earth and our spirits will move on into the after life ( which many of us believe is heaven) .

We should look deeper into the words Gary shared with us all before his passing. Does God really have a soul mate waiting for us? Do we need to look deeper with in our soul / inner spirit, to find out what is really in there, who we are and what is it that we really want? And why do we confuse the physical, mental and emotional attraction with the spiritual or should I say the "soul mate" type of attraction.

imagination08, I would say that you have brought something out that is most important in the idea of a soulmate, and that is, the spiritual.

According to Wikipedia, the idea of a soulmate goes way back in time. It says that "one theory of soulmates, presented by Aristophanes in Plato's Symposium, is that humans originally consisted of four arms, four legs, and a single head made of two faces, but Zeus feared their power and split them all in half, condemning them to spend their lives searching for the other half to complete them."

Here's what Wikipedia also has to say about religions that promote the idea of reincarnation: "According to theories popularized by Theosophy and in a modified form by Edgar Cayce, God created androgynous souls, equally male and female. Later theories postulate that the souls split into separate genders, perhaps because they incurred karma while playing around on the Earth, or "separation from God". Over countless reincarnations, each half seeks the other. When all karmic debt is purged, the two will fuse back together and return to the ultimate."

During many phases of history, priestesses lived at temples and had sex with the worshippers of various gods and goddesses. It was believed that a man would see the face of their god during sex. I think this probably had much more to do with something going on spiritually than just a bunch of skilled prostitutes who could make a man shout hallelujah at the appropriate time.

For those of us who are Christian believers, the Bible states that God is three in one, and he created mankind as two in one. He did indeed take a part of man and create the woman from it. Therefore, not only are people created in the image of God, the sexual union was created in the image of the oneness, communication, and pleasure that the Holy trinity enjoys spiritually among himself as one. This really is a great mystery. The Apostle Paul says that the sexual union causes a man and a woman to be as one. Can you imagine what Adam and Eve had when they were in the garden?

In recent times, Tantric sexual practices have become more popular as people attempt to tap into the spiritual side of sex which would elevate the participants to a higher spiritual plane of consciousness. Mankind yearns to get back to that perfect state.

What would this have to do with a soulmate? Well, perhaps we must consider the spiritual side of who we would become "one" with. I would say that this would make a big difference as to the degree of oneness that could be achieved and the heights that could be reached.

Lots to think about and contemplate on this subject.
