Chris Rea's ......."I can hear your heartbeat"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M82t3K7VDPI

In the silence of the side street
In the whisper of the night
From the darkness of the empty hours
To the early morning light
From the hustle down on main street
With all it's lights so bright
To the trucker on the highway
Pressing through the night

I can hear you heartbeat
I can hear you heartbeat
Girl, the sound of you is so sweet
To me

And i'm sailing on your wind song
Oh, i can feel the summer breeze
You've got me walking on my tiptoes
You've got me standing on my knees
From the mills way down in pittsburgh
To the clubs of gay paris
Ah, no matter where i roam, girl,
You can always get to me

I can hear you heartbeat
I can hear you heartbeat
Girl, the sound of you is so sweet
To me

We got freezing coca-cola
We got anything you want
I moving on that back beat
Girl, but it's you that sings the song

'cos i can hear you heartbeat
I can hear you heartbeat
The sound of you is so sweet
To me

Oh i still hear your heartbeat
Yea i still hear your heartbeat
Girl, the sound of you is so sweet,
To me

Serena Ryder's What I Wanna Know
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7GX84abtu8Q

You brought me a country
You brought me a voice
You brought me a reason
You gave me a choice

To fall without landing
To hold onto love
To live the impossible

What I wanna know
Is if you're leaving me now
Where am I gonna go
If it's not in your arms

What am I, what am I
what am I to do
who am I, who am I
Living without you
What am I, what am I
what am I to do
who am I, who am I
Living without you

You said I was dreaming
You spilt all the beans
You said keeping secrets
Is what happiness means

Suppose you were lying
Not just in my bed
I can't shake the pictures
You've locked in my head

What I wanna know
Is if you're leaving me now
Where am I gonna go
If it's not in your arms

What am I, what am I
what am I to do
who am I, who am I
Living without you
What am I, what am I
what am I to do
who am I, who am I
Living without you

Do I watch you leaving
Do I have no choice
I got inspriation
Tearing up my voice
Can I make you want me
Can I love you more
How can you leave me here
Broke on the floor

Gotta move on got to be stronger
Gotta move on got to be stronger
Gotta move on got to be stronger
Gotta move on got to be stronger
Gotta move on got to be stronger
Got to move ooooonn
Got to be stronger
Got to be stronger
Got to be
Got to be

What I wanna know
Is if you're leaving me now
Where am I gonna go
If it's not in your arms

What am I, what am I
what am I to do
who am I, who am I
Living without you
What am I, what am I
what am I to do
who am I, who am I
Living without you

What am I, what am I
what am I to do
who am I, who am I
Living without you
What am I, what am I
what am I to do
who am I, who am I
Living without you

Johnny Reid, that kinda lonely...........never felt my soul bleed till I heard this song

Sittin in a hotel, all by myself
Me and my six string, and no one else
Strummin to the rythm, of the rain outside
Feelin like Memphis, the night Elvis died

Have you ever been that kinda lonely
Have you ever felt that kinda sad
Have you ever missed somebody,
that kinda bad
Have you ever been that kind of lonely, I have

I took a walk out in the pourin rain
Thinkin that it just might help to ease the pain
Those delta blues, they got a hold of my soul
Got me thinking bout a woman,
that I can't let go
Have you ever been that kinda lonely
Have you ever felt that kinda sad
Have you ever missed somebody,
that kinda bad
Have you ever been that kind of lonely, I have

Have you ever heard the sound,
of your own heart breakin
Have you ever cried your self to sleep
Tell me, tell me
Have you ever been that kinda lonely
that kinda lonely
Have you ever been that kinda lonely
I have

Billy Squier - In the Dark

Life isn't easy from the singular side
Down in the hole some emotions are hard to hide
It's your decision it's a chance that you take
It's on your head it's a habit that's hard to break

Do you need a friend would you tell no lies
Would you take me in are you lonely in the dark...
You never listen to the voices inside
They fill your ears as you run to a place to hide

You're never sure if the illusion is real
You pinch yourself but the mem'ries are all you feel
Can you break away from your alibis
Can you make a play will you meet me in the dark...

Don'tcha need me...hey, hey
Don'tcha need me...oh yea
Don'tcha leave me...hey, hey
Don'tcha need me...oh yea

You take no int'rest no opinion's too dear
You make the rounds oh you try to be so sincere
You guard your hopes and you pocket your dreams
You'd trade it all to avoid an unpleasant scene
Can you face the fire when you see me there
Can you feel the fire will you love me in the dark...

BIG SUGAR RED ROVER

(Brothers and sisters, are you ready?)
Sometimes I stop and I wonder
How to keep myself from getting plowed under
'Cause everywhere I look I see people who suffer
For the things in life they can't get enough of

Me, I got lightnin' run through my wire
I'm gonna walk and never get tired
'Cause this a game of red rover
Where they send the righteous on over

As the struggle gets hotter and hotter
You're gonna feel your head slip below the water
If you think yu need to get a little higher
Just be careful 'cause you walk through the fire

This is the game of red rover
where you Send the righteous on over
Brothers and sisters, are you ready?
(Hey red rover, red rover)

Brothers and sisters, are you ready?

(Send the righteous on over)

I love Eddie Vedder's cover of Last Kiss. That song always chokes me up whenever I try singing along.
Another song that strikes a chord with me, is the song SOMEONE'S IN HEAVEN, by the Reverend Horton Heat. They usually have rockabilly songs about beer, cars, gin&tonic, women, martini's.... but the Rev wrote a nice slow song about his mother passing away, and being reunited with his father in heaven. I'm not a religious man, but I am spiritual! When my grandmother died, I played that song at her funeral. My mom thought it was too bizarre how that song suited everything about my grandmother and my grandfather. I still get choked up whenever I listen to that song, thinking about her.

Kind of sappy but this one got me the very first time I heard it.
" I hope you dance" by lee ann womack

I hope you never lose your sense of wonder
You get your fill to eat
But always keep that hunger
May you never take one single breath for granted
God forbid love ever leave you empty handed
I hope you still feel small
When you stand by the ocean
Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens
Promise me you'll give faith a fighting chance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance

I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance
Never settle for the path of least resistance
Living might mean taking chances
But they're worth taking
Lovin' might be a mistake
But it's worth making
Don't let some hell bent heart
Leave you bitter
When you come close to selling out
Reconsider
Give the heavens above
More than just a passing glance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance
(Time is a real and constant motion always)
I hope you dance
(Rolling us along)
I hope you dance
(Tell me who)
I hope you dance
(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)
(Where those years have gone)

I hope you still feel small
When you stand by the ocean
Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens
Promise me you'll give faith a fighting chance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
Dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance
(Time is a real and constant motion always)
I hope you dance
(Rolling us along)
I hope you dance
(Tell me who)
(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)
I hope you dance
(Where those years have gone)

(Tell me who)
I hope you dance
(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)
(Where those years have gone)

My feel good song is Black Water by the doobie brothers, If I'm alone I'll sing to it and it always sets my mood right. Saw them do it live, way back when.

Well, I built me a raft and shes ready for floatin
Ol mississippi, shes callin my name
Catfish are jumpin
That paddle wheel thumpin
Black water keeps rollin on past just the same

Old black water, keep on rollin
Mississippi moon, wont you keep on shinin on me
Old black water, keep on rollin
Mississippi moon, wont you keep on shinin on me
Old black water, keep on rollin
Mississippi moon, wont you keep on shinin on me
Yeah, keep on shinin your light
Gonna make everything, pretty mama
Gonna make everything all right
And I aint got no worries
cause I aint in no hurry at all

Well, if it rains, I dont care
Dont make no difference to me
Just take that street car thats goin up town
Yeah, Id like to hear some funky dixieland
And dance a honky tonk
And Ill be buyin evrybody drinks all roun

Old black water, keep on rollin
Mississippi moon, wont you keep on shinin on me
Old black water, keep on rollin
Mississippi moon, wont you keep on shinin on me
Old black water, keep on rollin
Mississippi moon, wont you keep on shinin on me
Yeah, keep on shinin your light
Gonna make everything, pretty mama
Gonna make everything all right
And I aint got no worries
cause I aint in no hurry at all

Id like to hear some funky dixieland
Pretty mama come and take me by the hand
By the hand, take me by the hand pretty mama
Come and dance with your daddy all night long
I want to honky tonk, honky tonk, honky tonk
With you all night long

And other all time fave is Blood Sweat and Tears, with David clayton thomas from there second album- And when I die. That is a great album, really worth a listen.

I'm not scared of dying,
And I don't really care.
If it's peace you find in dying,
Well then let the time be near.
If it's peace you find in dying,
And if dying time is here,
Just bundle up my coffin
'Cause it's cold way down there.
I hear that its cold way down their.
Yeah, crazy cold way down their.

Chorus:

And when I die, and when I'm gone,
There'll be one child born
In this world to carry on,
to carry on.

Now troubles are many, they're as deep as a well.
I can swear there ain't no heaven but I pray there ain't no hell.
Swear there ain't no heaven and I pray there ain't no hell,
But I'll never know by living, only my dying will tell.
Yes only my dying will tell.
Yeah, only my dying will tell.

Chorus

Give me my freedom for as long as I be.
All I ask of living is to have no chains on me.
All I ask of living is to have no chains on me,
And all I ask of dying is to go naturally.
Oh I want to go naturally.

Here I go,
Hey Hey!
Here comes the devil,
Right Behind.
Look out children,
Here he comes!
Here he comes! Hey...

Don't want to go by the devil.
Don't want to go by demon.
Don't want to go by Satan,
Don't want to die uneasy.
Just let me go naturally.

and when I die,
When I'm dead, dead and gone,
There'll be one child born in our world to carry on,
To carry on.
Yeah, yeah

I can't post the lyrics to this song.... but you should check it out...

It strikes a personal chord because it is how I would write a song.
