Subject: What`s on your regular grocery list that is unusual.
Message: Loz Hunter,
Most of the people I have run into are living on toaster pastries, packaged dinners, ice
cream and the like. But I guess this thread is drawing alot of health conscious people.
It`s surprising I guess.

_______________________________________________________________

My point exactly - d'oh

I eat healthy food as opposed to processed crap, that is why I said "nothing unusual about the list"?? Was wondering why you put it up as unusual? That was why I posted it.

Most people eat healthier food because it is cheaper than the processed rubbish on sale, and a lot quicker to prepare, there is less packaging, and it tastes nicer, you dont pile on the pounds from all the sugar, or is that just me and my friends

_____________________________________________________________

EDIT: What would be unusual on my shopping list is anything processed, over packaged, stuff that is supposed to be edible,

I wouldn't call them unusual...just a little harder to find:

My list.
- mozzarella di bufala
- pecorino affienato
- live shrimp (has to be live)
- sea urchin (when I can afford it)
- monk fish (when I can afford it)
- free range organic eggs
- proscuito di san daniele

Hmm, things that seem odd to me as staples (but there I go, getting them almost every week) would be :

bleu cheese
little cans of low sodium V-8
redi-whip
dark chocolate Hershey kisses (I get 2 per day)
canned beans

Other than that, I think it's pretty boring...lettuce celery, carrots, potatoes, sweet potatoes, radishes, cilantro, parsley, oranges, strawberries, grapes, corn squash, beef, pork, chicken, pasta...I make everything from scratch, so I'm always getting some kind of fresh food or produce.

I dont shop much because I can eat for free at work, plus eating only once or twice a day helps lose the weight.

When I shop its mostly fruits and veggies to snack on. The only thing "strange" I buy from time to time is tahini. From how hard it is to find around here you would think it was the most exotic thing ever.

Going to the grocery store on a regular basis would be unusual.

Being single and busy, I find it more economical to just eat out or take out. All I buy is coffee and milk for the mornin'.

Dragonfruit. I think it's the most painful for me too, since it's 7.99 a pound... but I have to get it anyway.

And dulse. My kids love it.

There are my manic basics; though not that unusual:
.....Sugar free bread (from Braums)
....Honey & Oats cereal with Almonds (not much sugar there)
....Fresh, very fresh milk (whole D, pints or 1/2)
....chewing gum, Arizona sugar free tea, Earl Grey bags, Triscuits (Fat Free)

Then there are those items that you don't find on a regular basis because they only produce them or carry them at certain times.... I am doing the Joy dance in the store over:
....Brazil nuts
....Green Tea ice cream
....No added sugar ice creams that have nuts or something cool other than vanilla
....Holiday items, like peppermint taffy.

Then there are things that only certain stores carry; I may have to go out of my way for these:
....Edemame ( the good ones in the shell)
....Jicima
....Texas Salt n Black Pepper kettle potatoe chips
....Big Hunk candy bars (when I find them I stock up)
....Pan Dulce - Empanadas with pumpkin - ooo yeah (thanks for reminding me^)

and then, those things which jump into my lap:
....Specialty sauces that I stumple upon
.... on sale at 75% off - I go crazy for those kind of sales!!!

I don't know why but I always want corn nuts. Hated them as a kid can't get enough of em now. Also there is always some kind of healthy sweet treat....I'm diabetic and constantly looking for a sweet that is satisfying but won't wreck my blood sugars. The last time is was some kind of prune, cocoanut, chocolate, nutty kind of energy chunks. They were awesome but could only have a bit at a time. Very satisfying though and a little went a long way.

JAVAN...a man after my own heart. Avacados! They are good for you...so are the Florida ones, is you can find them. They are much larger han the standar HAAS Avacado, half the fat and half the carbs. I mix my avacados with a small bit of lime juice, cilantro, onions salt and pepper. YUMMY. :)
