| Useful things to know and knowledge to share Posted: 7/1/2008 9:31:52 PM | "bounce fabric softener sheets really work as mosquito repelent, and smell soooo much nicer than off"
I didn't know they made clothes out of fabric softener sheets. Do they come in camo? I hate it when bugs bother me during the early bow hunting season. Now I have to find out if it works as a deer repelent or if the scent will attract them.

When you aren't being serious use or after posting something on a thread. Someone may try to give you advise because they may think you are being serious.

| Useful things to know and knowledge to share Posted: 7/13/2008 7:38:28 PM | | Ok, great minds out there. I need help with something. Our condo buildings are being power washed this week so I had to remove all my screens. I get home from the Plymouth Art Fair and there has got to be at least 30 house flies in my house. Ick. I took the vacuum around and sucked them all up. All the windows have been closed and locked since Friday but I can't figure out how all the little buggers got in. Any ideas? I have wood windows and it looks like all the seals are good. | |

| Useful things to know and knowledge to share Posted: 7/13/2008 9:13:36 PM | They sell those wonderful sticky things at any store, meijers, walmart... they come in a little tube you pull open... my parents used to use them up north...the flies are attracted to them and land and instantly become stuck...disgusting but work wonderfully! I bet your flies will be gone in 24 hours or less! Hang one in every room and you'll be surprised. Good luck...I hate flies! Never could figure out God's reason for them | |

| Useful things to know and knowledge to share Posted: 7/16/2008 4:40:51 AM | OMG...help, the dogs have fleas...yes lots of fleas! I can't tolerate bugs of any kind much less on my animals in the house! I'm sure they came from the rabbits running rampant in the back yard but none the less they are on the dogs! Don't suggest those drops from the vet because that's what I was using....how do I get them off and gone...ewww? Anyone have any secret home remedies that work fast??? I love my dogs to pieces but ummm...I don't want them near me til these things are off them! If they give them to my cat...I'm gonna scream! Quick hurry fast...they're making me itch watching them scratch! | |

| Useful things to know and knowledge to share Posted: 7/16/2008 5:43:38 AM | Robin, They do make a flea shampoo also. I didn't care for the drops myself either. I didn't find them to really work. With the shampoo the fleas are dying as you wash the dog. You have to lather them for about five mins but it is worth it. I got my dog Karley from my brother when his dog had puppies and they lived on a farm in Kamden, MI.... I didn't realize she had fleas till I got her home... I can't stand bugs in the house either. I was freaking.. I tried so many dang drops but I liked the shampoo better. Least I could see them dropping off and dying in the tub. I still put the drops too... to kill any eggs that were left. Hope you get rid of them soon. I can totally sympathize with you on that. | |

| Useful things to know and knowledge to share Posted: 7/16/2008 8:17:14 AM | | Yikes @ fleas!! Robin,,i know you said not to mention the drops but when i moved into this house, this house was literally infested with fleas. My cats (2 of them) almost died because they were so infested! They got so anemic they couldnt even scratch themselves anymore. I went to the vet and got the drops and to my relief, it really did do the trick! I also bought a flea comb (those things word WONDERS!!) and got an old plastic butter bowl and filled it with bleach. Each time i ran the comb thru my cats, id have LITERALLY hundreds of fleas on the comb. Id take the fleas with one swipe of my fingers (cuz they were attached to the cat hair in the comb it worked GREAT!) and throw them in the bleach. *poof* Those ucky things would disintegrate. Just for reassurance, i also sprayed everywhere in the house with flea spray (carpeting, furniture, my room, heck everywhere!). | |
|
| Useful things to know and knowledge to share Posted: 7/16/2008 8:41:15 AM | I've given the both a flea bath but they were reinfested in two days...eeekkkk and I only have carpeting in one room,(my bedroom ewww does that mean there's fleas in there?) what the heck! So okay...I need to buy a flea comb...never heard of it before but I'm going looking! So i wonder.....can I add alcohol or peroxide to their bath if bleach kills fleas??? Wouldn't want to bleach my rott puppy though...he'd look funny as a blonde.... | |
|
| Useful things to know and knowledge to share Posted: 7/16/2008 8:50:38 AM | Yup Robin,,those flea combs are the sh*t! They really really do catch the fleas bigtime! You are going to be totally amazed at the amount of fleas you get. Mine was hundreds and hundreds cuz like i said,,,my house was infested. When i put the drops on my cats, the fleas would jump on my cats and id comb the hell outta my cats and throw the nasty fleas in the bleach bowl to kill 'em right away! lol
Not sure you wanna pour alcohol or peroxide in your dogs bath water tho. One or both may really irratate their skin and actually would hurt then worse cuz of the flea bites. :(
Nah,,,not sure a blonde rotty would quite look right! LOL
Oh and yes,,,spray your room too! Everywhere! Those fleas jump on you too so wherever you go,, those fleas are bound to go too!

| Useful things to know and knowledge to share Posted: 7/16/2008 2:29:41 PM | i use frontline...dog has never had fleas in her life...around a lot of other animals too...if you get them in your house dear robbittydodah you'll have to bomb the place...lol, flea bombs that is | |
|
| Useful things to know and knowledge to share Posted: 7/16/2008 2:30:26 PM | i had fleas BADDDD for 2 yrs running. THIS year.. im clear. Bug bombs i tell ya..
First i had a friend tell me, yA.. spread salt all over the house.. and in a few days.. vacuum it.. they will cling to the salt and die. LIARS.. :))... you could see the lil fleas jumping all over the floor. Then i had another friend tell me Borax.. so i try again.. NOTHING.. didnt bug the bugs at all... then i was told.. NOOO>. its BOric Acid. So i tried that too.. nothing.
The key is the bug bomb.. then bug bomb again. Flea shampoo and then the drops.
And if you can.. spray your yard.. yes they make a spray. Fleas love to live in your lawn. And next spring.. do the flea bath..AND the drops BEFORE flea season. its prevention.. or nothing.
|
| Useful things to know and knowledge to share Posted: 7/17/2008 3:29:17 AM | Yes, you need to spray the yard and put down those bug killer granules......unfortunately, they ARE in your house too..... The BEST spray is the kind the vets sell.....you need to spray the carpets, couches, and wash all bedding.....wash animals again, then put on the drops to prevent reinfestation.... A friend of mine's house had it BAD......after using 3 cans of vet spray, house was finally clear..... You need to do ALL the above on the same day though.....for best effectiveness! | |
