| George Carlin Passes away at 71.. Posted: 6/23/2008 7:19:54 PM | | I always loved Carlin as a comedian but I strongly suggest that fans rent or buy the Lonesome Dove mini-series Streets of Laredo where he is wonderful in a dramatic role. Carlin plays an aging cowboy who loves in vain the mother of a killer Captain Call is sent to bring to justice. I was so impressed the first time I saw the subtle and human quality of his performance that I was amazed and angered that he was not nominated for an Emmy for best supporting actor in a mini-series or made for TV movie. I've watched the mini-series many times and my awe for his performance grows with each viewing. | |

| George Carlin Passes away at 71.. Posted: 6/23/2008 7:39:44 PM | | Aside from Cliff burton this is the only time the death of a celebrety has made me cry...And I was 12 when Cliff died. I am kiciking my self for not seing him last year in Santa Rosa at the Wells Fargo Theater of the performing arts ( formally the Luther burbank center fot rthe performing arts) I find solus in the fact that he always made me laugh and I agreed with him 90% of the time ( which is a great feat since I am a skeptic) By the way it reminds me of a quote he made " The true cynics are those that say everything is going to be ok" . aSIDE FROM HIS ALBUMS AND MOVIES TO STILL MAKE ME CRACK A SMILE, i HAVE ONE LESS REASON TO BE HAPPY IN THIS SICK SAD LITTLE WORLD. | |

| George Carlin Passes away at 71.. Posted: 6/23/2008 8:45:53 PM | | George Carlin will be missed. He explained his philosophy of life in an interview where he said he loved individuals but because scared when they became groups of two or three or twenty and began to have slogans and agendas............ For all his sarcastic humor, he was a decent guy. And his humor forced us to face things in our society that made us think instead of just accepting the standards. His routine on "stuff" had me rolling on the floor in laughter. | |

| George Carlin Passes away at 71.. Posted: 6/23/2008 8:52:32 PM | | A buddy of mine called me tonight and we talked about how we memorized so many of his comedy routines and would recite them when we were in high school. The man was brilliant and will be missed. He had a way of making you look at the simplest things in life and describe them in a way that was both funny but philisophical. A very rare ability! He was probably one of the first comedians to take every day things as simple as "words" and put them under a microscope to generate something great. There will never be another George Carlin. Rest in Peace, Mr. C. | |

| George Carlin Passes away at 71.. Posted: 6/24/2008 12:47:40 AM | now that'd be a blessed curse to place on a child ~ the future will need him or her! ~ That rare talent does survive death
I've been seeing a lady I met here on POF ~ a Will Rodgers decendent ~
Often she reminds me of George Burn's beloved wife "Gracy" and a Will Rodgers combination
She can say the funnest things ~ at times ~
"Since we know the speed of light ~ I wonder what the speed of "dark" is?
or " I wonder why black ashes shown up white on a dark dress?" ~ She is full of what she calls " spontanious disclosers" ~ ~~
sweet precious witt! ~ thats Sunny ~
Carlin had a serious side ~ he'd made a good preacher or political figure ~ it was his choosing ~ to make us laugh at ourselfs! ~ We'll miss him. ~~ Dance

| George Carlin Passes away at 71.. Posted: 6/24/2008 2:24:28 AM | A Message by George Carlin:
The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider Freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness.
We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom.
We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.
We've learned how to make a living, but not a life. We've added years to life not life to years. We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space but not inner space. We've done larger things, but not better things.
We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We've conquered the atom, but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less. We've learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less.
These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small character, steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes. These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill. It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom. A time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to share this insight, or to just hit delete...
Remember; spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever.
Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side.
Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn't cost a cent.
Remember, to say, 'I love you' to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you.
Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again.
Give time to love, give time to speak! And give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.
AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:
Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.
If you don't send this to at least 8 people....Who cares?

Why do people always consider someone who dies going 'to a better place'? How do you know what comes after death...did anyone ever come back to tell you?
Thank you, Irishgal. I was thinking along the same line. Seems to me, George was doing pretty damned good right here in THIS place and he wasn't suffering in this life as far as any report I've heard.
But back on track...
George Carlin was a great wit and an inspiration to many...including me. He and his humor will be missed for a very long time. Good thing we have recordings to go back to and laugh at and appreciate him all the more.

| George Carlin Passes away at 71.. Posted: 6/24/2008 7:06:52 AM | I will miss George Carlin. He is among my heroes. I was lucky enough to see him perform once, in Wallingford CT. Think it may have been in the mid-1990's.
He was one of the great comic geniuses. I don't think I've ever heard anyone analyze language and human behavior quite the way he did. Even when he wasn't funny he was provoking thought.
Strangely, I was dreaming that I finally bought the GC "Little David Years" box set that I've been wanting for so long. Then I woke up and heard about his death on the news. I don't usually dream about buying CDs...
Goodbye George. Here's a well deserved standing ovation for you.

By the way...beware of things passed around on the internet that are supposedly written by George Carlin. There are many that are not really his. His website lists quite a few...

| George Carlin Passes away at 71.. Posted: 6/24/2008 8:31:33 AM | He didn't "pass away". He died. George hated euphemisms.
If it were possible, he'd be writing material about being dead. "Y'know the good thing about being dead? People stop telling me all their stupid bullshit. And I don't have to carry anything heavy anymore..."

Weird huh? George will be missed I'll still think of him in my story as I have his voice in my head..Gee I sure hope he doesn't become another one of my personalities...Poor guy stuck in my head for eternity.

| George Carlin Passes away at 71.. Posted: 6/24/2008 9:10:19 AM | George and I had alot in common, he said many things I thought of & wanted to say, the only difference is he made them funny, he always told the truth about everything , it's very SAD that most people hate to hear the truth. He said he was not a religious person but somehow he believed JESUS is still alive, I wonder where George is now. My heart goes out to his family. I WILL ALWAYS MISS U GEORGE...
*THE QUEEN WAS HERE*
U WERE ONE OF THE GREATEST!!!

| George Carlin Passes away at 71.. Posted: 6/24/2008 10:32:16 AM | Thanks Dancecard, you'd make a great George Burns to my Gracie Allen, I find it a compliment and you're a sweety. You have that same humor, most find so refreshing.
George Carlin had a simpler view of things and a way to express himself and his thoughts in a way we could all understand. He could bring up stuff we all do and say, and keep us in stitches...really laughin' about ourself.
Like Will Rogers said...."We okies got smarts. We just don't brag about it alot."
I loved his Carlin's weatherman forecast: Tonight: DARK/Tomorrow: LIGHT, beginning with scattered DARK.
Again, thanks Dance....I'm really not worthy of Gracie, but I appreciate the comparison....say goodnight Gracie
