Is it considered whussy for a guy to have a fear of bugs?

Never had the pleasure of meeting a c0ckroach, apparently I'm lucky. I used to be afraid of spiders when I was a kid, now I just don't like them...but that's mainly the really creepy looking ones that gives me the shivers and I just want to kill as fast as possible. Snakes aren't too bad, best viewed with pants and a pair of steel toes in case things get out of hand,

although I do NOT wish to come face to face with one when I'm swimming in a lake
I also don't really want to go out of my way to have one as a pet. Luckily we don't have too many poisonous spiders (we do have some, no deadly I don't think, but part of the reason the weird creepy ones freak me out) or snakes (other than rattlers and water snakes which big ones are fairly rare to see in particular area).

Btw, they should rename them from June bugs, to May bugs, seems we had more this May than June, with global warming and such lol. They are just a nuissance when they gather and then die at my front door. But one bug that really gets me are those massive mosquitoes. I call them the "daddy long legs" of mosquitoes, they are creepy to try and squish, especially when they land on you. Also not cool to be see a praying mantis out of the corner of my eye when cutting the grass, bout an inch from my face sitting on my shoulder! Just brush it off and shake it off.

A guy should not be scared of something 1/10000 his size. Girls should not either. :)

I spiders though. Maybe I'm the weird one in this thread.

Do you make alot of squealing noises when you see em?
I dont think your a wuss, i do find your particular discription on your feelings towords bugs to be kind of funny though :-P

Bugs? not afraid of them, i think some of them look kind of cool, and others tend to be an example of just how amazing and strange nature can be, venomous ones are KIA when in my territory, viva la shoe o' Death, non venomours spiders tend to be relocated to the garden if they are any bigger than a bottle cap.

I *hate* roaches! eww.. not from a "fear" perspective really, just a "disgusting" perspective. I remember doing some work for a place in town (non-profit) where I had to cut away some sheetrock to put a cabinet in, and when I pulled it away there were literally *thousands* of****oaches coming out of the wall... ugh!! yuck!! emptied an entire can of bug spray in there I'll tell ya!

Even then, one****oach, dunno... nbd, I'll just kill it. A whole colony of them in the wall like that, just freaked me out.

That being said - spiders are cool! I try not to kill spiders (hey, they eat other bugs!), if I find one in the house I try to capture it and put it outside.

Although, Bearwoman commented on wasps and hornets - I dunno, I stepped on a yellow-jacket nest as a kid and had a pant-leg full of them stinging me as I ran, a particularly unpleasant experience - unlike the common bumblebee, wasps/hornets/yellow-jackets can be very agressive - I'm usually pretty cautious around nests. But, if they don't bother me, I don't bother them, and a single one bugging me gets killed. Then again, I could certainly see someone who is allergic to them (I'm not) being afraid of them, for obvious reasons - a pretty healthy fear I'd think for those people.

no...it doesn't make you less of a man in general...but in my eyes...yes.

i'm not afraid of them, and i find it unsexy that a guy would...since you know...it's mostly embedded in our heads that you're supposed to be the "protector".

I am seriously unnerved by creatures that can stick me with something and then inject poison into me, also insects creep me the hell out. All insects in my house are KOS. The women that see us as lesser men for not wanting to go near the things need to have handfuls of stinging bugs thrown at them so that they learn why we fear the things we fear. That'll learn 'em.

I honestly haven't had a long term relationship yet with a guy who didn't have a fear of some sort of bug. One's fear of spiders was so severe that if he was driving and saw one in the car, he would have to pull over and get out of the car so I could get rid of it.

I don't think fears like that are irrational in any way. I, for example, am terrified of rodents unless they're in a cage. I also have a paralyzing fear of baby birds without feathers. No idea why.

Okay, so first get the roach motels, they work pretty well.
so, its not ALL bugs, right?
As long as you can kill spiders, you're good.

They scare the creeps out of me and my daughter, so we have no spider killer in our house. YIKES!

Not considered as wimp, but i will say you should not have a fear of roaches and no one else should either. People should be able to calibrate their thoughts into logical pattern. To want rid of these roaches i understand, but to have FEAR...no i do not understand the fear phobia. Fear phobia of spiders i can understand, because if many spiders sting you on the neck you can die or get deathly ill, whichs condones a healthy fear of that. But if one is mentally stable, they should be able to use their foot to approach a roach and step on it if wearing shoes of course or walk up to 3 foot distance and spray the thing.

If you lived in Houston you would pass out from heart failure, because being we live only 35 miles from the ocean and have humid damp air, very large black roaches even reside in the good peoples houses.

Okay, yes...it's wussy.

You have to get over it. The only way you can, is to keep conquering and destroying, conquering and destroying, conquering and destroying....until you no longer pee your pants and squeel like a baby.

I look at it like this....it's ME or THEM !

Take 'em out. No worry no mo !

The more you do this, the less fraidy cat you'll be. Then you can move on to copperheaded-waterrattler snakes. Then...the BOOGIE MAN !

But I can't say much 'bout fears....I'm deathly afraid of firecrackers and lighting combustibles. We all have our phobies.

Yes, you are a whussy. It's funny I was just talking to a guy who is squeemish with insects, salamanders, etc. That's a turn off for me. Why? Because I'm not afraid of them, will touch them, catch them, and I don't want to be the Man of the house and take care of it while he's throwing up, passing out, or screaming like a little girl. AND I don't kill any bugs!! I have an awesome Insect Relocation Program...however, I am by far not the norm.

When I was about 13, I loved to make those Chef BoyarDee pizzas in a box...I was pattin' the dough for crust when all of a sudden a big ole scorpion scampered across the kitchen counter....All I could do was throw the doughball on it...then waited for Daddy to get home.

That dough ball was HUGE by the time Daddy got home and he told me "well, that scorpion musta stung it...look how swole up that dough got !"

Ruined my pizza, but Daddy was my hero, even though it was dead. I didn't realize how the fact that the real hero was .... Chef Boyardee and how my pastry skills saved the day.

So really if I had let that scorpion get away, it would have hidden somewhere more dangerous and stung somebody, later. Ya gotta do whatcha gotta do....even sacrifice lunch.

I hate bugs,, that's why I have sons! My seven year old is a manly man and the bug killer in our house,, I taught him that it's part of his jub to cowboy up and take out the bugs. I will help with a scorpion tho,, we have a system for them! God they are so gross! Now snakes,, that's a whole nuther thing,, I'd never call anyone a whussy who's scared of snakes. Shudders remembering the one I found napping under a flower pot on my porch a week or so back.

It might not always run women off, but it's certainly not going to win you any attraction points either.

Some women might be more tolerant and understanding of it, but everybody knows confidence is sexy. And fear is the opposite of confidence. Fight it, my friend. Own your fears.
