i still cant get past the fact that you are a leafs fan...sorry.seems like a lot of wasted hockey knowledge.
I'm a hockey fan.
While I bleed blue and white, I love the sport itself so much that it doesn't matter whether i'm cheering for the Leafs, the Sens, the Kings...whoever... (Not that I have ever cheered for the Kings or Sens...just sayin') I watch every game, not just the Leafs games. I listen to sports radio and practically live on TSN and the NHL network in the off-season.
I love the Leafs because they remind me of what hockey is actually about. (as do Buffalo and Edmonton. Similar styles) I think that the fact that they haven't succeeded in so long, is part of their charm. They have the heart, the balls and the grit that hockey is about, and they try to claw their way to the top every season. It's the fight in it that I love about the Leafs. There are certainly much more skillful teams, better defensive teams, bigger goal scorers, better goaltending (Though Toskala is a ****ing God as far as i'm concerned.)and all around better hockey teams out there, but for me it`s the attitude...the drive and passion that they have that makes them a team worth supporting.
Where do you figure my knowledge would be better applied? Anybody can jump on the bandwagon and cheer for a finesse team, because it`s easy. They don`t have to know anything except that `their team` has a bunch of soft handed Europeans that light it up. But to be a true hockey fan...someone who really appreciates everything the sport is about, you can cheer for a team that doesn`t have the flash and flair and ease that other teams do because you can see the fight and passion that nobody else has, in their play.
If you ask me, to cheer for any other team would be a waste of my hockey knowledge.

see if the leafs had ant hockry knowledge at all, people like you would be able to afford to go to a game.as it is managment can have as much knowledge of the game as their season ticket holders.which is pretty sad.on top of that the rest of canada have to watch this poorly run orginization every saterday night .no matter how bad they are they make a mint.a true leafs fan would boycot this orginization.

| are you happy with the Leafs offseason so far? Posted: 7/26/2008 9:14:48 PM | | nah...it's a business...just like every other hockey city in the NHL. All the other cities in Canada have pretty hefty demands these days for 'season ticket holders' ... I don't think there is such thing as a 'cheap' hockey ticket anywhere in Canada anymore... | |

nobody said route for another team, but about the only way you can fire the owners is not go to the games.

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2008/09/22/Exh-Buf-Tor-0/
Good start for the Leafs in preseason last night. i thought Dominick Moore showed flashes of leadership after we got him back in january. I wasn't all that thrilled when we picked him up off the waiver wire, but he turned in some pretty steady efforts on a pretty lacklustre squad last year. Seems very fundamentally sound and works both ends of the rink. 2 goals for him last night in their first pre-season tuneup. Apparently he's Ronny Wilson's kinda player:
"""...Moore used his speed, threw some hits, blocked a shot and scored two goals Monday as the Maple Leafs opened their pre-season schedule with a 7-4 victory over the Buffalo Sabres. The 28-year-old has bounced between teams in recent years but might find a more permanent home in Toronto if he keeps playing like that.
"The one guy I guess who did make an obvious impression to everybody tonight is Dom Moore," Wilson said after coaching his first game since being hired by Toronto in June. "I'd never really seen him play all that much. ..."I was impressed with his speed and his competitiveness. He scored two nice goals, took the puck to the net and did a great job killing penalties."
Wilson's team is going to be short on star power this year so the coach has vowed to put a hard-working squad on the ice. He might have a good fit in Moore....""" ==============
There's more there if anyone's interested. Schenn played pretty good (plus 2 on the night), and Finger blocked a few shots, while the whole club blocked 23 shots in all. Probably more than they blocked the whole first half of last season. This club's gonna surprise a few folks.

| are you happy with the Leafs offseason so far? Posted: 9/24/2008 11:36:28 AM | I thought Moore showed that he was a wise acquisition last season. He definitely will have more of a chance to shine as a player and as a leader for this young team, this year. I think a lot of guys sort of faded into the background with Mats, Tucker and (ick) Caber on the bench.
I also think that Blake will have a chance to shine again this year as well. He was just snake-bitten last year, and I think he had a hard time finding a place for himself with all of the veteran Leafs on the bench. Hopefully he can find a spot and show us that he belongs in a Blue and White jersey, this year.
I think Deveraux will definitely be a prominent guy on the team, and noticed he is wearing the "A" for the pre-season. I do like him quite a bit as well.
It's always hard to lose the big names that everyone knows, and come back with names that (unfortunately) many fans aren't aware of. I hate to say that many hockey fans, and Leafs fans don't follow the farm teams and don't know who has been working their way to this.
I don't think Pogs is quite ready yet, but it was awesome to see him out there! His glove is nowhere near as quick as Toskala's and it's definitely noticable. Cujo...well...it'll be fun to have him back!
You know, I am confident that this group of guys will do quite well this year. I put them 6th in the East in my pool, so here's hoping!

| are you happy with the Leafs offseason so far? Posted: 9/24/2008 11:59:55 AM | Pogge is supposed to play the entire game tonight. tsn at 7:30 against the pens.
Wilson's shuffling the deck again tonight with a russian first line of Ponygirl, Antropov and Grabovski. grabovski I think is just up there on the top line with them for now while he gets used to the new club as his english isn't very strong.
Steen will suit up tonight as well, centering the 2nd line with tlusty and Blake.
A whole new mixed bag of d-men for tonights tilt as well with kaberle in...

Again like i said this summer, i'm Ok with what cliff has accomplished since showing up in feb. With a week to go last year there was only about ten points separating 1st from 11th, so with Wilson's style of dwelling on looking after all the little things as opposed to maurice's style of laffing off every loss, I think we'll see the leafs not drop those ten points this year like they did last year with upwards of 18 blown leads...10 of them in the first three months of the sked. That's where they lost their season right there.
Most folks say the early part of the season doesn't mean that much, but fact was that by new years, leafs had to play .750 hockey to make it to the dance. Tough chore. And looking at it from the other point of view, without the Sens 13-1 start to the season, they would have wound up close to the league basement without that start.
You'll finish on time if you start on time.
No one picked the habs, bruins or flyers to make it to the playoffs last year, but not only did the Flyers make it, they went to the conference final. I'm not sure why most websites i visit i see leaf fans slagging this club like ninety. I like it. They're going to focus on the defensive end of it and they've got a lot of speed up and down their roster. Wilson likes to juggle lines a lot and he's got the right roster to do this. I think you're bang on with your prediction of 6th in the east.
Some of the other clubs will be better and some will be worse.

| are you happy with the Leafs offseason so far? Posted: 9/25/2008 3:28:25 PM | | Pogge sucks large, he has major flaws that need to be corrected. I think he's too big to play goal personally. The guy looks like chewbacca with skates on in there. | |

| are you happy with the Leafs offseason so far? Posted: 9/25/2008 4:43:07 PM | Tough nite for Pogge really. i only caught a bit of that game last night. Long night for Strallman. He had one bounce in off his leg on what was actually a pretty lousy pass by the Pen behind the forward that was already all alone on the far side past Strallman. They don't usually ask how though; they ask how many.
On the third goal, Strallman completely blew a tire down low before making his breakout pass and coughed up the puck deep in his own end for an untouched two on one for the Pens. i doubt Pogge could or should be faulted on those two. I never saw the first one.
Pogge's not gonna make the big club this season, but it's good experience for him. Gilbert should have started him in their playoff run last year for the marlies rather than leaving him sit till the last two games of the third round.
It wouldn't surprise me to see the Leafs carry Schenn on the roster for the first week or so of the regular sked before sending him back to junior..he looks pretty comfortable back there right now.

| are you happy with the Leafs offseason so far? Posted: 9/27/2008 2:20:15 AM | I agree with you on Pogge it was a big mistake to give Clemmonson all those games last season doesn't help at all in developing him, but he didn't play to bad made a few mistakes its only pre-season with nothing on the line give him a year or two I'm sure he will be great hell he's already doing better than Raycroft =p
Schenn is looking awesome nice to see him get that goal tonight but no way there going to waste a year of his contract on a season that's completely up in the air! I really hope they let him develop more.
It's only pre-season but there not doing to bad so far I expected allot worse to be honest =p
