| I love you, do you love me? Posted: 6/26/2008 7:07:41 AM | My usual response when a man tells me he loves me before he knows how I feel is "Why do you think you love me?" I ask this because I really want to know. How he answers this question is very revealing.
I've had men refer to my physical characteristics when asked "Why?".
That just doesnt have much mileage.

| I love you, do you love me? Posted: 6/26/2008 12:45:16 PM | When I was in my teens it was about hormones... When I was in my 20's/30's it was about life/career goals... Now, in my 40's it about, well, I hesitate to use the phrase in my 40's, question love's existence, and look forward to a game of Jeopardy. I'm not 50 yet so I have nothing more to say about it... | |

| I love you, do you love me? Posted: 6/26/2008 12:55:38 PM | | You know how a little kid will just run up to you and say "i love you" and then run away again without waiting for or needing any kind of an affirmation or answer? Why can't we all be like that? | |

| I love you, do you love me? Posted: 6/26/2008 1:26:21 PM | Look at Love threw the eyes of a child. Since a very long time ago, people have searched for the meaning of love. But even the great philosophers, with their profound definitions, could not fully touch its true essence. In a survey of 4-8 year olds, kids share their views on love. But what do little kids know about love? Read on and be surprised that despite their young and innocent minds, kids already have a simple but deep grasp of that four-letter word. "Love is that first feeling you feel before all the bad stuff gets in the way." "When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn't bend over and paint her toenails anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That's love." "When someone loves you, the way she says your name is different. You know that your name is safe in her mouth." "Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other." "Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your french fries without making them give you any of theirs." "Love is when someone hurts you. And you get so mad but you don't yell at him because you know it would hurt his feelings." "Love is what makes you smile when you're tired." "Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK." "Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get tired of kissing, you still want to be together and you talk more. My mom and dad are like that. They look gross when they kiss but they look happy and sometimes they dance in the kitchen while kissing." "Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen." "If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate." "Love is hugging. Love is kissing. Love is saying no." "When you tell someone something bad about yourself and you're scared she won't love you anymore. But then you get surprised because not only does she still love you, she loves you even more." "There are 2 kinds of love. Our love. God's love. But God makes both kinds of them." "Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it everyday." "Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after they've know each other so well." "During my piano recital, I was on a stage and scared. I looked at all the people watching me and saw my daddy waving and smiling. He was the only one doing that. I wasn't scared anymore." "Love is-if you hold hands and sit beside each other in the cafeteria. That means you're in love. Otherwise, you can sit across from each other and be okay." "My mommy loves me more than anybody. You don't see anyone else kissing me to sleep at night." "Love is when mommy gives daddy the best piece of chicken." "Don't feel so bad if you don't have a boyfriend. There's lots of stuff you can do without one." "Love is when mommy sees daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is handsomer than Robert Redford." "If you want somebody to love you, then just be yourself. Some people try to act like somebody else, somebody the boy likes better. I think the boy isn't being very good if he does this to you and you should just find a nicer boy." "Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day" "When you're born and see your mommy for the first time. "Love is what makes people hide in the dark corners of movie theaters." "Love goes on even when you stop breathing and you pick up where you left off when you reach heaven." "My enemies taught me how to love." "I know my older sister loves me because she gives me all her old clothes and has to go out and buy new ones." "You really shouldn't say 'I love you' unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget." "You have to fall in love before you get married. Then when you're married, you just sit around and read books together." "I let my big sister pick on me because my Mom says she only picks on me because she loves me. So I pick on my baby sister because I love her." "Love cards like Valentine's cards say stuff on them that we'd like to say ourselves, but we wouldn't be caught dead saying." "When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you." "Love is when mommy sees daddy on the toilet and she doesn't think it's gross." "You never have to be lonely. There's always somebody to love, even if it's just a squirrel or a kitten." "You can break love, but it won't die."
So you see Love can mean many things.

| I love you, do you love me? Posted: 6/28/2008 4:01:46 PM | "When someone loves you, the way she says your name is different. You know that your name is safe in her mouth."
I like that one a lot.

| I love you, do you love me? Posted: 6/28/2008 6:20:04 PM | I'm not big on words (especially the four letter L word) I'm more of showing then acknowledging it through speech, and it seems that some guys would ask that into a few weeks of seeing each other. Of course I usually tell them the truth and say "I like being with you and that's all that matter right now" but they get upset like their egos have been bruised.
I believe honesty is the best policy. I'm not going to tell a guy I love them if I don't actually mean it. I think being in love has a deeper meaning and since my heart has been broken a few times in the past, I just don't reciprocate saying it so easily.

| I love you, do you love me? Posted: 6/29/2008 6:09:29 PM | blueangel,
I'm with you. I won't say it unless I mean it with all my heart. But I think it means more when those words are backed up with action.

| I love you, do you love me? Posted: 6/29/2008 6:25:52 PM | | never had to lie,but have replied "that's sweet but i just don't feel that way yet" | |
|
| I love you, do you love me? Posted: 6/29/2008 7:55:11 PM | I agree with georgia blue eyes ....
I would much rather hurt him (or be hurt by him) with the truth, what ever it is... than by a lie, specially a big one like that, you are not doing anyone a favor, specially yourself.
|
| I love you, do you love me? Posted: 6/29/2008 8:32:37 PM | | Ive been in that situation, and did not lie, though sometimes ive said it when I thought I did but really did not. | |
|
| I love you, do you love me? Posted: 6/29/2008 8:37:15 PM | No reason to lie, OP. I've never said it when I didn't mean it. Granted, the number of men I've said it to (outside of friends and family - but that's a different sort of love) is rather small. I've been put in situations where the first time a guy said he loved me was a surprise, but I've only answered in the same way when I felt it back.
I have had to answer the question, "Do you love me?" in the negative before. That really sucked, and because I hated the position that put me in, I've learned not to ask the question myself. I figure that if I find love again, neither one of us will have a problem expressing it.

| I love you, do you love me? Posted: 7/1/2008 5:06:34 AM | There was a sports radio (& TV guy) in the Tampa area that died a little over a year ago. Very bright, funny guy. He died of cancer. For as long as I listened to him he would end his sports talk radio show with:
"Tell someone that you love them today."
He said this long before he knew of the cancer. What he meant by those simple words above is: Tell those that you love, "I love you" everyday, because you just don't know when you may never get the chance to say those words again. Life is too short to be angry, sad, or unhappy.
"Too late we learn, too early we die!" I don't know who said this, but it is so filled with wisdom.
|
| I love you, do you love me? Posted: 7/1/2008 7:55:59 AM | so the OP lied when asked..instead of bowing out so the other person could find someone that wanted them the same way...wasting the other persons time | |

| I love you, do you love me? Posted: 7/1/2008 8:01:11 AM |
"When someone loves you, the way she says your name is different. You know that your name is safe in her mouth."
the larger meaning..substitute, "character, reputation, YOU yourself" are safe.
If i truly love, i love despite your response. do we know the meaning..of "love'?
Do i love "you'? Or do i "love you" for what you do/represent/can do... for me? a world between....veritably, stretches from heaven to hell
|
| I love you, do you love me? Posted: 7/1/2008 8:05:30 AM | | When I love someone they will know it....they wont have to ask me................ | |
|
| I love you, do you love me? Posted: 7/1/2008 8:17:27 AM | | You could have always did what Heartbreak Kid did and say love, love love you. Not specifying who loves her. When a man has told me he loves me, I tell him he is sweet, then leave him alone. | |
|
| I love you, do you love me? Posted: 7/1/2008 10:16:39 AM | | Saying "I love you" is communicating a profound emotion and should not be taken lightly. It is important that other techniques are used to enhance this phrase, or else it merely comes across as trite. You have to pair those words with "actions". If I use these simple words "I love you" then it is spoken truth from my heart. To say it dishonestly is not an option for me. | |
